  1. Hi, Does anybody know who the Assessing Authority for the occupations on the NT Skilled Lists are? For example on WA and QLD lists the authority is listed next to the occupation, just wondering if anybody who has gone through it can help?
  2. Why do you need to resit if you have 8.5...is it not the average mark that counts? Do you have to get minimum 8 in all to get 20 points?
  3. The bottom end of the scale is $40 / hour and the top is $100 / hour, although this is for FIFO jobs in WA and before the latest mining downturn. You are so in demand out there at the moment, I would say $60 / hour would be realistic and you could easily ask for more, there will be other roles especially if you can get to QLD and WA.
  4. Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum and have just got a quick question regarding VETASSESS Points Test Advice...bit bamboozled by the fees, especially for 'Qualifications positively assessed on the skills assessment'...why would you need to pay again? I have 1 UK undergraduate qualification that I want advice on...has anybody else been through similar and how much does/did it cost? Cheers, Nic / Andy
  5. Can I ask how its goin on Jtc? Better or worse than expected?
  6. Has anyone successfully applied under Contract Administrator under State Sponsored or GSM? Just wondering what qualification(s) are deemed highly relevant?
  7. Try the original Newcastle on a Saturday night when 'the toon' have played at home and lost. (Don't really)
  8. Where was the scariest place in the world? The 'gong?!
  9. I spent a few days in both. Wollongong was a typical Aussie coastal town, lots of relaxed cafe/bars and friendly people. Newcastle feels like a bit of a ghost town in places, the same bogan young fella swigging from a bottle in a brown paper bag started on me twice just for walking up and down the road outside the train station in the middle of the afternoon. I took a walk around town after midnight and felt unsafe (and i'm from Liverpool UK). I'm sure the suburbs are a lot better and being from an old port that has experienced its fair share of economic hardship myself i'm very wary to condemn a place with similar problems, but I do think it needs some investment particularly around the docks.
  10. No, you don't need to worry about any of your experience in relation to your post-graduate diploma as this is above the required level of education or qualification for VETASSESS - in effect it has not really been considered. You have quoted their text stating that the requirement is 'comparable to an Australian Bachelors degree or higher' which your BSc is.
  11. Hi Labourvellec, thanks for the reply...are you in the same occupation(s)? I have looked into this in WA as yes, it's do-able with the HND (surely VETASSESS would class QS as highly relevant) and I have over 1 year of the past five in a QS/Estimator role for a small consultancy...basically getting the foot in the door with main contractors, pricing, winning and then financially managing contracts for groundworks and brick/blockwork subbies. Did more estimating (pre-contract) than post contract stuff, so easily satisfy the 20 hour a week rule. Only problem is it doesn't exist anymore! I have payslips but no contract of employment and no chance of getting a copy. Currently on the look-out for a decent estimating role, but tempted to just put the application in now, as at the end of the day I qualify. But with no evidence, I know what i'd say in their shoes!
  12. Hi Bensdad, I've just started thinking about emigrating and a move to Perth, was wondering what sector you worked in in the UK? i.e. commercial build, civils, specialist subbies etc? I have the HND in QS from 2004 with 5 years experience in groundworks, earthworks and general civils. What are the chances of landing a job in Perth that isn't FIFO or DIDO? Also, what route did you take in obtaining the visa? If QS, am I right in thinking you are degree qualified with 2 years experience with a RICS employer? Thanks mate
