  1. Didn't do WHV - I was a student for 18 months but spent 6 months travelling and pretty much did the same as anyone on a WHV would do. I'm lucky as I will be going back on my as yet unused WHV in a few months time. It's all very easy. The east coast is so backpacker friendly. Everyone stops at all the same places. It's difficult to plan too much as if you find a good bunch of people you will change your plans and go with the flow, which is why the Greyhound is good as you can change travel dates etc at the click of a button. £3500 is a good start and can easily stretch for a while if you don't do all the touristy overpriced stuff, though having said that, I would probably recommend doing it all once just to tick it all off the list! If you find work as you go you will be all good.
  2. Hello everyone! I just finished in Australia and am doing my Honours research back in the UK. I'm looking into migration of nurses & midwives, from the UK to Australia, factors influencing migration, and perceptions of work in Australia compared to the UK. I'm looking for nurses/midwives working in Australia, who worked for the UK NHS before moving to do a short survey - it won't take more than 5 minutes. It would be amazing if you could take part. :ssign16: Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PH89VZF Thanks so much in advance Anastasia
  3. As rupert says, some just want to travel, others aren't that fussed. You're 24 and your parents should understand that it is just something you want to do. My parents aren't big travellers and couldn't grasp why I wanted to sod off to Australia on my own, but they supported me and though your parents will miss you, they will be happy knowing you are doing what you want to do. Plus... staying in one place forever.... Boring! Seeing the world doing new things, different jobs and generally cool stuff.... Awesome! A good majority of people travel alone and there is a consensus among solo travellers and groups alike that travelling alone is a character building feat, and you have the freedom to really do whatever you want. 2 years in Oz, NZ and SEAsia, I would be extremely hesitant to ever travel with others as being alone is really just amazing. You area never actually alone! Do Sydney-Cairns on the Greyhound. You have a good job back in the UK - there's lots of work if you know where to look and sell yourself well. It's great fun and you will meet lots of alike people along the way of all ages from all over. You said it - you can always head home if things don't work out... but if you have that need to do it... just do it! It might be the best thing you ever did.
  4. Hello everyone! I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your forum. I just finished up studying in Australia and am now doing my Honours research back in the UK. I'm looking into migration patterns of nurses/midwives, particularly from the UK to Australia, factors influencing migration, intentions at the time of moving, intentions after moving and perceptions of work in Australia compared to the UK. It's for nurses/midwives working in Australia, who worked for the UK NHS before moving to Australia... so I hope I am in the right place! Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PH89VZF There's some more info about the study on the first page - It's confidential and won't take more than 5 minutes. It's quite a specific demographic so would be amazing if you could take part and forward it to any other nurses/midwives from the UK. Thanks so much in advance :ssign16: Kind regards Anastasia

Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PH89VZF It's only a very short survey and won't take more than 5 minutes.
