  1. I would suggest you join the Dyslexia Australia FB group. Very helpful.
  2. You will find suitable accommodation in Wynnum Manly for your price bracket. Good primary state schools in the area.
  3. Hello Bryan, yes I would be happy to share details of the organisation, note that it is Brisbane specific. Within the financial and insurance services sector there are a lot of opportunities if you hold the right work experience. Please feel free to PM me and I can provide details. Regards.
  4. Hello all, the are Australian employers who are open to hiring mature workers. The organisation (Life Insurance) I work for in Brisbane has a diversity policy and proactively employs older workers. Roles include Admin, Claims Managers, IT, change management, finance, payroll and customer service. Worth exploring employers advertising a diversity policy. Good luck.
  5. Hello Yang it would be helpful if you outlined your nephews experience and which state he intends to move to. As a previous post mentioned, target rural areas.
  6. Hello Deanne It probably depends on your OT skill base. You could be supervised within context of an injury management company. You could work as a rehab case manager for Employment Service or A Not for Profit...or for an insurance company. There are options. If you would like to PM me feel free.
  7. Hi PaddyMacs. I understand where you are at and feeling 'cold feet'. No one can make the decision for you as only you know your family circumstances. The first 12 months abroad is hard work in my opinion on many fronts. One option is to not sell everything; rent your house, stick things in storage, organise a sabbatical from work, travel light and just plan to work and live abroad for a defined period such as 12 months or 24 months. Treat it like families who sail around the world for a year or two and live abroad, a grown up working holiday. An enrichment experience. If you love it down the track rethink your plans. If your parents are up for it, they could come and join in as well for a period.

    Hello all

Hello Serendipity. With your background you will still get a job to be supervised. I am sure many injury management firms would be keen to have you. I am an OT moved last year from Ireland. Feel free to PM. I am based in Brisbane.

  10. Hi, we live in Wynnum North with kids, it is very family oriented. W ynnum is very quiet of an evening. Manly has slightly more action. Joining in some of the local sporting activities would be your best bet. There is a free community fitness programme on Wynnum Esplanade during the week contact Kris Fleming 0458002959. There is an adult swim club at Manly Pool (early morning) and a Triathlon club. There is a 'walkers groups on the Esplanade' check this out via Wynnum Facebook page or Meetup website; Park Run happens every Sat morning 7am at the end of Wynnum Wading pool (register online), Wednesday afternoon Go Sailing (WAGS) is free sailing at Manly Yacht Club - you would be crew and novice or skilled is welcome. The Bayside PCYC has facilities and classes for adults as well as kids. This includes squash courts, gym, martial arts classes. There is adult touch rugby and league (Bayside Bugs), softball, netball etc etc If you look at the local Wynnum Quest newspaper you will see there are free trial kayaking and sailing events held for kids and adults. Thorneside has a canoe club on Tingalpa creek / river. Sleeman Sports Complex Chandler - adult badminton Wed nights. Wynnum library has evening events (poetry/ writers / bookclub). You can check out this an other local events on the Brisbane City Council website. We know younger folk who go to the Wynnum Manly Leagues club, it does cater well for all ages and decent drink prices. The Manly Hotel probably the widest range of music on and dance area and I see quite a few 20/30 somethings involved. The Wynnum Manly Trailer Boat Club has some music and charity events. The other option is to join in some of the charity and volunteer organisations this could include Coastguard, Red Cross etc Food for thought?
  11. Hello, Seeking some help from any OTs out there who have been through the AHPRA process. I am having difficulty formulating case studies...I have printed out 4 anonymous reports that I have completed over the past couple of years and then attached a theoretical framework comment. Just wondered what other people did. Also what did you list for clinical reasoning? Any advice or some samples would be gratefully received as I seem to be getting bogged down in the detail.... thank you
  12. Any examples of what people put down and how much detail for Clinical Procedural skills on the APHRA CV would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  13. Hi Mike, It won't matter if you stay in the city and just drive to Wynnum until you find somewhere or stay at a holiday park. Motels will be expensive. I would use the suggestions already listed on the PIO forum where other people stayed more centrally in Brisbane until you sort a long term rental. I just moved to Wynnum North with my family. We had planned to move Northside Brisbane however OH found it too built up, plus he is into sailing. Due to the Port motorway and Gateway Bridge, Wynnum North is only 15 minutes to Ascot where I have a family member. It is 25 mins drive into the city. Here are some options, I have not seen the rooms however I would expect the Anchor to be reasonable. The Waterloo has a renovated restaurant and 'gaming lounge' however the bar is still old style. They don't have any rooms available until the 17th July (I just checked). Wynnum Anchor Motel 14 Adam Street, Brisbane, Queensland 4178, Australia http://wynnumanchormotel.com.au/ Its a quiet location. You are in walking distance of the lovely Wynnum Esplanade. Its more Wynnum Central / Wynnum North) ie 10 minute drive to Manly West. The Waterloo Bay Hotel (it has serviced apartments) http://www.waterloobayhotel.com.au/ Address: 75 Berrima Street, Wynnum, Queensland 4178 Phone: 07 3893 2344 Fax: 07 3393 4520 Email: info@waterloobayhotel.com.au I just used http://www.realestate.com.au to find a rental. We ended up renting through James Dean Residential http://www.jdre.com.au (their office is in Tinglapa) they seem to look after the rental properties very well. The rental application went through in 24 hours very smoothly following the viewing. They were completely fine with foreigners renting and not having all the necessary paperwork, providing you have demonstrable capital and/or permanent job. 14. Count me in for the 3pm session. Looking forward to it. Thanks for organising, shall bring a label. I have become very adept at labels with all the moving chaos. :+)
  15. OK that's fine, I will get the details from the forum! thank you
  16. Hello Pommybum13 I have been through the difficult process of trying to find a rental in Brisbane that was not tired and not well kept and /or was available. Every viewing several families would turn up...bit of bun fight. Rentals are in demand. If the place did not look brilliant on gumtree.com.au or realestate.com.au photos, it was usually rubbish in reality. So it depends how remote you are talking regarding your location? As a prior post indicated, take some excellent pictures of the property, show all the rooms inside, outside, gardens etc List it on http://www.gumtree.com.au with the photos and either your number or the agent, depending on who is doing the viewings. I think this is free. List what is included in the house and highlight how long it takes to drive to major links / CBD etc Offer to undertake viewings, this will cut the time down between your lease and a new tenant. Even if you are not staying in it, use gumtree and other websites to heighten the profile. Good luck
  17. Hi Love Shoes, I would be keen to join the meet up, just moved to Wynnum with my family. Could you PM me when you sort a place / time. sounds fun. I note Val and friends also coming from South East direction. cheers Tuosist
  18. HI Dean Judd, my OH's came through just under 8 months we applied 28th August 2012 so that should give you a feel. Once you are 1-2 weeks away from the 8 months wait, I would email your CO and request an update on the application status. Probably worth looking a overseas flights for at 8 /9 months mark to see what you can realistically do as the CO will ask for flight details once your application is at the finalisation stage. So good to have a rough plan. Not long to go now.
  19. Partner Visa - applied 28th August 2012 - approved 14th April 2013. Good news! Case Officer KP. Now just have to organise for OH to leave Australia for 3 business days to activate the visa. Probably go to New Zealand. Good luck other August applicants
  20. The service is usually free, some stations have charged €20 that I know of. Just go to your local Garda station with the completed form (the one for immigration purposes, stating NOT for job applications). You can find detailed information on www.boards.ie choose Australia forum and search I have attached the form we used early 2012, presuming it is still the same. Its not particularly detailed. Take your passport and some paperwork to show you intend on immigration in case the Garda on duty is meticulous. We did not have to do this as I was Australian and my Irish husband just had to show his passport. We had one done in Jan 2012 and one done in Sept 2012 to extend the 12 month validity on it (as perceived by Australian immigration) and both times it took about 3 days. You must take a self addressed stamped envelope. I recommend using an envelope with a slice of cardboard in it, reduces the chances of the cert getting mashed with An Post. Good luck
  21. Hi, my husband applied 28th August 2012. No word from KP our CO yet however he did say in previous verbal communication that the finalisation date "would typically be 8 months so for example 28th April". It seems to be 8 months on the button at the moment. Big however, he knows we are not in a rush as husband has a 457 so already in the country. Not sure if that makes a difference. So not long to wait i suppose. Good luck
  22. Hi Pommyranga, just wanted to say thank you, helpful info for us newbies to Northside.
  23. Thanks for the house details, a useful guide. We already did the trip in February with a 4 month old and 21 month old, I am staying with family interstate and waiting for our shipping container to arrive (may sometime) before moving to Brisbane. Re the flight: The baby slept a lot of the way. It was the toddler that was a challenge. Take a walking harness on board if you have a toddler! helpful to strap them into the seat in addition to the seatbelt. Refer to the post recently by TeamEdward about flying with children, might be useful. good luck.
  24. Hi Dredg97, I am interested in this as well, as moving to Wavell Heights or surrounds. Do you mind me asking what you ended up paying for the house rental? Just trying to get an idea on what is reasonable. My OH is staying with family in Brisbane and I move with 2 infants in the next 2 months to join him. thank you
