  1. Moosheads was an amazing place to meet, easy to find and parking right across the road, fantastic deal with the pint and meal, that was an amazing schnitzel and chips sorry fries! The best bit was the company there, thanks again guys, see you again soon.
  2. Hi, I'm not sure but we are out here on a 457 visa bad it's only me being sponsored however my husband and my two children were included in the sane visa application. I would try asking about it a little more. There's also no limitations on working from my husband's point of view.
  3. Hi Ben, we've been here 4 weeks and certainly notice the cold house syndrome! The crappy wall mounted heaters are usually on most of the day/night as we're renting there's not much we can do about that. Driving is a bit odd, but I've driven some places that makes Canberra drivers look fantastic, eg Paris, Milan and London! They may be slow here, but at least they're not trying to kill themselves in a hurry! On the plus side, a slower pace on the road allows better sightseeing! Canberra has lots to see. I love it here, bad couldn't think of a better place to raise my kids!
  4. Thanks for your suggestions, some of you seem to think I want a British Indian curry, not the case! I know the style will be totally different, but wasn't expecting the crap that came from the kitchen of king of curries, I mean we collected it ourselves (ordered on site and was waiting) its about 5 mins drive home, and it was stone cold! I've driven 15 mins from one in UK, and it's still been warm! However, an English style Indian is not what I'm after, but something a little more authentic, with a nice kick.
  5. Ok, so being a typical brit, I've got an urge for a really good Indian take away (jalfrezi, rogan josh or bhuna). We got one from King of curries in belconnen and to be honest it was disgusting, I've never been so disappointed in a curry in my life! So does anyone know of a great curryhouse in Canberra hawker/balconnen area??
  6. Thanks for that clickettuk, we're settling in rather well, we have a place in hawker seems ok here, often visit belconnen mall! As for the cold, we're from the UK, this is warm! 14th July is in the diary, will see you there, with our 2 boys 7 & 2.

  8. In my opinion (looking to the future) I think (from our perspective) it's about what is on offer for my kids when it comes to leaving school, they may only be 7 & 2 at the moment, but looking at how overcrowded the UK is, how the government has forced pensioners to work later and lack of jobs available to school leaders, it seems the best thing to have done for my kids! Also I agree with joanne we have more time together as a family, my wife used to commute 3 hours daily, now it's a 20 min walk, better for her and health benefit too!
  9. Will you be doing this again, it would be awesome to meet up with fellow brits being as we've not long arrived!
  10. Hi all, I've just been reading this thread and would also like to thank you for the suggestions, having only been here 3 weeks I find that really the only place we tend to go for eating out seems to be the mall food court in belconnen or any of the main fast food outlets!
