  1. I think i read somewhere that euycalyptus oil is good, wipe surfaces down with it ,they dont like it,also bleach works but it doesnt last too long.
  2. Try ringing the airlines direct they might improve on the price.I had to cancel a flight that had no refund option but when i sent death cert they refunded me the monies for the whole family.
  3. We used one, well it was on the dog when he left for the airport and it was returned to us when we collected him from quarantine, who knows if it was removed in this time, unfortunately you loose all control when you hand the dog over.I did enquire when i was at the quarantine station were the dogs distressed when they came out of their container and the lady said no,they were on the whole happy dogs. It's a process you can't avoid so try not to worry too much about it!
  4. How did you find out that your occupation ceiling was filling up?Also i wonder how hard is it to achieve a high score in the IELTS,we need the extra points,my husband is a well educated man and we feel he should be able to achieve a high score but we have no knowledge of the test?
  5. Forgot to say ,don't underestimate the cost of setting up home from scratch here, bring as much as you possibly can as in the big picture everything adds up,along with our car we only brought personal effects, kids toys, bikes etc.It was handy in that we went and bought new beds ,bought a lot off gum tree so was set up quckly on arrival, but kitting out the kitchen with fridge, dining table, sofa , buying bedlinen and quilts, lamps etc added up,its also important to have your own things around to help you settle down quickly.
  6. We put our car in a container with our personal effects. You have to apply for an import permit before it can be shipped and you must have owned and be able to prove proof of ownership 12 months prior to shipping. We have had some slight damage to front wing on arrival and so will have to claim on insurance policy which unfortunately has €350 excess so that's annoying. In terms of customs Pickfords were our agents in Perth and they sorted everything for us,household effects were cleared separetly to the car.You do need to bear in mind the time it takes and we were somewhat stiched up by our removal company having paid for a sole use container ,everything got sent groupage and so took much longer. On arrival in Perth once duties have been paid,we had the car road tested and registered, the whole process took 5 months probably could have done it in 3/4 months had our container arrived and if i had been more efficient with the paperwork.
  7. I think you're kidding yourself that you will get compensation, once these guys have your money thats it.I'm in negotiation with the company i used from Ireland,i paid for sole use 20 ft container and instead without consultation they sent our stuff groupage,so we paid an extra €1000 and had to wait seven weeks longer to get our things...they're not intersted in my complaint!
  8. there is a govt site that does a comparison of the best/cheapest policy for your needs,i googled it ,best health ins policy in aus and it came up!Good luck,we moved from Ireland in august, given the state of Ireland your doing the right thing for your family, tough saying goodbye but a whole future to look forward to for your family.Good Luck!
  9. Just wondering what car insurance company did you use to insure your imported car and did you declare it as being an import?
  10. Hi we are in Aus on a 457 visa and having a lovely time and so want to secure ours and our childrens future here by going for PR.My husbands company will sponsor him but we have to pay for the visa ourselves. The migration lawer is charging a considerable amount and i was wondering if its too complicated to do ourselves.I'm not working so have time on my hands but don't want to mess up either, would you recommend doing it yourself or not?
  11. What they say is they will do their best, they have 55 dogs and a good lot of cats.Don't worry, our dog was happy there and they are kind to the animals, the time flys by and the end result is you will have your dog.If you can make it to walk your dog yourself is the best option if not consider paying a dog walker, don't stress about it.I think the owners get much more stressed than the dogs themselves!
  12. We got our very large lab/retriever out of Byford two weeks ago, here's my thoughts. The staff were lovely and very kind. The visiting hours and walking slots are restrictive. You can't have access to your dog for the first week and can't book a slot in this time for the next week,so by the time you come to book a slot they are gone. You can still visit but stand in the kennell with the dog. However the welcome we had from our dog was fantastic and was worth the visit.I managed once or twice a week to get to him but it was a three hour round trip and tough going. He always appreciated me going, when i couldn't get there he wasn't walked, once he went 7 days without them walking him,i was upset but he was still happy.the time goes by really quickly ,it was like getting him out of prison,it was the most fabulous feeling to bring him home and despite all the cost worth it.My big gripe with Byford was one day i had a walking slot booked,it was very quiet(Tuesday)i had the second slot so asked if i could change to the first half slot which they did no problem,i then asked if the second slot would remain free and it was so i asked could i exercise for the full hour as there was several areas available , they said no,when i asked why they said it wouldnt be fair to someone next week who might want to walk there dog for a whole hour,i discussed the point that this was today and nobody wanted the slot,i couldnt get them to move ,now in my mind this was jobs worth and it made me so cross! The time goes quick and our dog wasn't distressed lets hope that the time for quarantine is reduced in the new year!
  13. i'm interested in strimmer can you pm me your mobile please if its still available.
