  1. Hi, im in mandurah south of perth! Think the gap training was $690 think its over $2000 if your not on a pr visa thats with challanger tafe which are crap by the way! The restricted gas permit course was about 200 i think. Once you have done the gap training you have to apply for a trades persons license which if i remember right was around 200. If your going to the eastern states i think its different as a lad on my course had come to perth from queensland just to do his course as think its longer and more expensive over there not 100% on that though. When you come make sure to get written work referencies detail all the work you have done as the plumbing board need this
  2. Hi mate, alls good here looking for something else at the min jobs ok but its on a building site and as a subbie, moneys not great either still enjoying it tho and has given me some good experience also my boss has signed off my application for my gas permit! Had a job interview yesterday for the perfect job for me good money, local, company phone and ute so fingers crossed i will get it. I have learnt its hard to get any work without licenses so do them as soon as u get here then take any job to get some experience as there are quite a fewdifferences
  3. Hi just completed the gap training, was easy enough. Course consisded of about a weeks theory spread out over the two weeks and the rest practical. You will need the as3500 book for this course which is $350 but once you are enrolled you are entitled to an online copy which you can get printed and bound for $80 round the corner from tafe, the lecturer will tell you where to go and you can do this on the first day. The practical side consisted of piping up a hot water unit in copper using oxy-acet and flaring tools i didnt really know what i was doing with this but there were alot on the course who had been out working for a while on whv so they showed me what to do. Its easy once you have done it. Then we spent two full days making different types of metal guttering joints/bends again the lecturerer shows you what to do step by step. After that we did some sheet metal roofing which was easy. Then we had to do a soil stack which is pretty much the same as uk. By far the worst was the slab lay outs as for one we had to dig a 12 meter trench with stab offs for various fixtures. This is done in groups of 3 though. I would also reccomend to book with tafe to do the restricted gas permit this involves some online learning and a couple if hours exam then you can work under someone elses licence think it was $330. We finished a day early so could do the gas on the friday. Oh and i would reccomend to keep some suncream in your car cus you will be working outside for the drainage and i got burnt and it wasnt even that hot! I also have a job first person i called gave me a months work as a subbie but may lead to more. There is plenty of work if your prepared to put the effort in to look and are prepared to do donkey work till you get a name for yourself
  4. Its the plumbing migrant gap training course at challenger tafe fremantle. Will let you know how it all goes
  5. Not in Oz yet! Flying out on the 3rd of october and booked on the gap training coarse on the 7th.
  6. Dont worry about it, its a doddle! I was worried about the roof plumbing questions also lpg and trenches and stuff as had no involvement with it. The course lecturers know this and guide you through it. They asked a few h&s questions and first aid but basic common sense stuff. The practical side was piss easy. Had to pipe up a toilet wash basin and boiler jig in copper and push fit waste then a tiny bit of 1/2 inch or 3/4 steel to a gas meter using hand dies.

  10. Hi we haven't actually booked it yet as we are still waiting for the house to go through. We have already have two buyers drop out so not booking till i have the money in my hand! We emailed them the date we wanted to go, arrival destination and how many people. Then then sent us four quotes two on the day before we wanted to go and two on the day after both different airlines and different departure airports. So we had choice of airlines singapore or emirates and departure of heathrow or birmingham. Having flew with both to Oz before we are going with Emirates as we think they are better and is from Birmingham which is closer for us. To book we need to send our visa grant, have luggage allowance in writing not sure about pre-booking seats as we haven't got that far but im assuming once we have booked we can go on emirates website and pr-book as usual!
  11. We are a family of 5 have saved nearley £500 on flights compared to skyscanner by quoting with IOM, also with our preferred airline (emirates). You also get 40kg PP luggage ulimited bag numbers. I think you have to have a PR visa though. There email is bookingsuk@iom.int. We have opened a NAB account they have an iphone app and give your 4.5% interest for four months from opening account.
  12. Hi we have been contacted by our case officer today requesting medicals, didnt realise it would happen so soon! As only applied for visa 1st june! Problem we have is my wife has the faulty pip implants in confirmed rupture! They are less than 6 years old and harley medical group have agreed to remove and replace free of charge problem is there really dragging there feet and we was hoping it was all sorted before the meds. Is this going to cause a problem? Do we hold of on the meds and discuss with our case officer or do we just go to meds and play dumb?
  13. Hi, we are planning to move to mandurah, perth jan 2014. We should get our visas granted fairley soon meaning we will have to do a validation trip. When we finally arrive in OZ for good what do we need to do/get before we can get a rental ie driving license etc, how long does it take to get said things and can we do any of that on our validation trip? We will be staying with family and the house will be full of kids so want to move into our own place ASAP before problems occur! Any help or advice would be very much appreciated!
