  1. Hi, we have a 489 visa based on my skill as an icu nurse. My partner is an hgv driver but we can’t get an answer as to whether he will be breaking the 489 rules if he delivers to city areas if he is working for a regional company. Or vice versa, working for a city company but from a regional depot and delivering all over. does anyone have any experience with this?
  2. Hi, I believe that his wife did what I have just been offered. I have just started on my BSC (hons) nursing and already have a degree. If you already have a tertiary education then you can study a graduate nursing diploma which is a 3 year course and followed all of the same curriculum as the BSc, however you are exempt from some of the pure academic modules, such as the communication ones and the dissertation as you have already shown that you can study at degree level, you do have to study at Msc level for a couple of modules as well though and you do still need to do all of the pharmacokinetics, p and p, placements etc and it is still 3 years. However it is confusing as to whether oz recognise this or not. It is officially a higher qualification that the BSc but is less than a PGdip and i dont think there is an oz equivalent! I have my fingers crossed for you wife @Daffyd
  3. hi, I was just wondering what the outcome of this was as I have been offered the chance to move on to the post graduate pathway but am worried i might shoot myself in the foot as it were!
  4. Hi, I just wondered if anyone could help me with some information. I have trawled the net and only seem to find very old posts or conflicting and terrifying information! My partner and I intend to move out to oz in the not so distant future and I like to be prepared. Does anyone know the system for uk plumbers transferring their qualifications to oz licences? We are looking at Queensland or wa as possible places to go. I have read on some sites that you have to pay thousands and go to tafe in order to get your full licence in Queensland, is that the case? I have also read elsewhere that you can register in nsw much easier and then transfer the licence to queensland aafter, is this true? What is the system for wa, I can't seem to find any info at all? Thanks in advance x
  5. thanks for the replies! I will have to just wait and hope that recession is staved off and jobs become more abundant again in the next few years, in time for me to cease the opportunity! Even better if they start actively recruiting again! I've already had 1 career removed from the SOL just as I was about to apply for my visa. Lets hope this is not another one.
  6. Hi, I have been looking at nursing jobs in Australia over the past few years from the UK and have noticed a decrease in job opportunities being advertised on web-sites. I understand that Australia's economy is having a hard time at the moment and that there have been job cuts etc as in the rest of the world. I have also read that there is a possible looming recession! So I was just wondering if those of you already out there are finding nursing jobs harder to come by? Are there many more jobs advertised on shore only? Also what do you think the likelihood of nursing being removed from the SOL in future is, if there is no longer a shortage? Thanks for any info x
  7. It really is. I've been wanting to move to oz since I was around 14 but each time something had always scuppered my plans. My first career was taken off of the sol so I had to rethink things. Then I fell in love with nursing while I was working as an hca and applied to do the nursing course but my daughter got ill and I had to put plans on hold for a few years. Now here I am! And I've just been informed that it takes a while to get your pin in the nhs once you graduate so an even longer wait ... 189 is looking like a remote option. Still there will be other options if not I'm sure. I will try for the 189 though, you never know x
  8. Thanks for all the replies. I was unaware that the skills assessment needed to be done before the EOI! that will make it very tight! Looks like the chances of the PR visa straight off are quite remote given the time restraints. Oh dear! Lets hope that I am lucky with timings etc. Thanks again x
  9. Hi, i just wondered if anyone could answer a query for me. i am a student nurse who will qualify a month after I turn 39. At 39 I will have 60 points, enough to potentially be invited to apply or a permanent visa. After 40 I will not. So my question is can I submit an eoi and visa app after only a few months as a RN in order to have the correct points? Would lack of exp at eoi mean that I am unlikely to be invited to apply? If I did this I believe that, should I get the visa, I will then have 5 years to gain exp before moving thus making myself employable both through exp and visa type. That was my thinking anyway.has anyone else done it this way? Or have any advice, would 457 visa be a better option and waiting till I'm over 40 but have exp? thanks x
  10. Hi, Yes it is still the same here. I will not be considered his NOK without a living-will (neither necessarily will our daughter). I really resent being forced to marry for financial reasons. Unfortunately the base rate of £325,000 before IT is due is far too low for 2 properties the SE of England and we would be liable for a substantial fee if the worst did happen. This revelation just makes me more determined to move ASAP. Are NOK issues simpler with defacto partners in Australia as well?
  11. Hi Parleycross, Thanks for the response. My partner has a house in a relatively expensive area in the UK that he rents out and he also owns our family home outright. We have been together for about 7 years and have a child. He wants to marry as do I but I am (or wasn't) in any hurry to do so as I don't really feel that it makes much difference to anything other than your pocket. However it was bought to our attention that, 1. the properties will not necessarily transfer to me or our daughter without a will (we must make sure we do this now instead of putting it off) 2. should he pass-on then we would be liable to pay 40% of the value above the base rate (which given the 2 properties and their location would be quite a lot) to the government in tax. These were supposed to be our security in later life as neither of us have a pension and they were also supposed to assist our daughter in her adult life. It feels very unfair that a committed couple should be penalised just for not getting married! It looks as though we will have to tie-the-knot sooner than we planned. It feels a bit like a shot-gun wedding now though. It's good to hear that Australia is fairer with its lack of inheritance tax, another reason to move in the near future, with any luck. Thanks again
  12. HI me and my partner are a cohabiting couple who have no wish to get married yet, under uk law, have just found out that we have to or we risk loosing a vast amount of out assets in inheritance and cg tax should 1 of us die. Are the rules similar in oz or are they fairer? thanks in advance for any response
  13. Hi I am new here and hope I have posted this in the right thread???? I am currently due to undertake an undergrad nursing course and hope to migrate to australia in the near future. I just wondered whether anyone knew how the process now works with regards to gaining PR as a nurse if you are over 40? Once I have completed the training and undertaken the required 3 years post reg experience I will be 40yrs old. I have tried filling in the points test based on this info and I fall short by 10 points due to being over 39:cry: Does this mean that I cannot gain pr at all or can I still come in under a temporary visa and then try to get pr as you could under the old rules? Also I have heard that there are some states which will take nurses with only 2yrs post reg experience, which would make me under 40 and therefore eligible for pr visa, has anyone heard of this? If so do you know which states these may be? Apologies for all the q's just v confused about the new rules Thanks in advance for any info
