  1. I saw that there hasn't been activity at all in this our thread. We arrived in Perth 4 weeks ago!!! We love it but no jobs at all!!! We are worried about finding something as live is quite expensive here and in my field (civil engineer) it seems that for any position there are many people applying. Coming from Bolivia is not greatly viewed in terms of experience, but hopefully I can find something, I'm willing to start from 0 as long as the opportunity appears! Hope everybody is going well, if something we are in Beckenhan. Cheers to all of you!
  2. Good luck with this coming beginning Arrumac. Nervousness all around!
  3. Well, it's nice to see how many of the May gang are doing well in Oz. As for us, I had really bad moments with my mother in the hospital the last couple of months, and therefore postponed our flight to Perth which was scheduled for March 19. Hopefully, we will be able to reschedule by July and start the new life in Oz. Congratulations for the BBQ and mainly for getting in touch with each other of the gang. Hope we can join you on the next one :cute:
  4. Thanks Mille x, I guess airbnb is ok. Did you use it for your first accommodation in Oz? What do you think of 400$/week just a bedroom and a bathroom? all the rest shared in a house in Como suburb (Perth)?
  5. Thank you nycplanner, I think I'll go with that option. How are things going in Melbourne?
  6. Hey May Gang!! Heard that most of you are already in Australia, mainly Perth don't you? Well, my OH & I are departing in March 19th from Bolivia to Perth. Many things have happened, most important I have just finished my job and now preparing everything for our destination journey. I was checking the rental market which found quite difficult currently. Some ideas on how to aim this seek? I know about domain, realstate, reiwa, and on the other hand there are airbnb and gumtree. We were thinking on getting a furnished place for about a month or two, time enough to get to know Perth better and find a more long term place to stay. However, I found that it's not possible to rent online, I mean it is necessary that we are there, visit the place and apply for the apartment, unit, or whatever. On the other hand, those rentals don't go under 400$/week considering 1-bedroom apartments (which is sufficient for us, it's just the both of us) which is REALLY EXPENSIVE for us. Anyway, the first step is to find a furnished place for at least a month and I only found that on airbnb and gumtree, those prices are usually higher than non-furnished places and usually published with daily prices (I mean short term stays). Most self-contained places (still talking on 1-bedroom) are around 100$/day which means 700$/week, its really crazy! Frankly, we are kind of worried on that situation, even more considering that we still don't have job offers yet. I am a civil engineer with 7+ years of experience and y wife 4+ (but she doesn't has the Engineers Australia skill recognition yet). So, please any advice on how to start this new life in Perth? I know once getting a job everything should be easier but that it's gonna take a while so, being practical, what would be the best way to find an affordable furnished place of the both of us? I am starting to think that a double bed room with the other facilities shared in a house will be the best (found it on airbnb at around 400 $/week all services included) but is that webpage reliable? They ask about 6-12% of the total rental price for them, and the property owners seem pretty honest for me. Best to all of you starting a life in Oz, how are you doing? Please, share something!
  7. Hey, good advice nycplanner, We'll do it as soon as we get to Perth!
  8. Nice one nycplanner! Quite neat and undestandable! I hope someone from Perth could give some explanation as yours. I would only like to explain that at least in South America (I live in Bolivia and my nearest AU Embassy is in Chile) once I sent our passports to get the PR labelled on them, the Embassy officials replied that there is no more that label thing and that we only need the number to get a plane ticket and for any other procedure. I knew that the regulations need no more the label, but I tried since my agent told me to get the label if possible as it could be helpful as you say in your post. So, it think it depends on the embassy, in my case both passports were returned from Chile with nothing, they just took a little journey for nothing, jajaja. By the way, crazy weather over there! Hope Perth gets more regular!! Goog to know from you and enjoy that magic beggining.
  9. Hey smithinoz!! Nice to hear about you and good for you now enjoying Perth. My OH and I are departing to our future in Oz next April, our destiny also Perth. For now starting to look for job opportunities in Perth, I am a civil engineer with background mostly as a Project Engineer in the construction of highways and dikes, with experience specially in earthworks. How and where would you recommed me to start? I am Latin american (Bolivian) and really don't know how well that would go with Australian's needs and expectations. However, I must say that I am working in the 3rd biggest silver mine in the world in my country (http://www.minerasancristobal.com) as a Site Supervisor of a TSF construction, interacting with professionals of Chile, US, Canada, and Australia of course. Indeed my first boss here was an Australian. Please, let me know any thoughts about how I can focus my job seek. I would appreciate it a lot. And of course, It would be nice for us to meet you and your familiy once getting to Perth. Also, finding a place to live seems very difficult since we aren't there. I am planning to rent some place for about 2 months at the begging and once getting to know Perth, rent a more stable home. Haven't heard about all the rest of you!! Hope everybody is going great!! I am still here just watching in silence jaja
  10. Have a good trip Shelly!! It must be very strange. The bad part: those tears, but everyone of us will have that experience when departing from our home countries. However, let's see the good things awaiting us in Australia, it's gonna be our new bright wonderful life!! Best luck for those new arrivals in Australia! That destiny will join us in our new called country.
  11. You must be all nuts with all the adventure coming soon, right fergamy? I'll be like you in 4 months jaja.
  12. And Jars, please update us about your thouhts once you get to know Perth.
  13. Sorry my friends. I was very busy since back to site (mine San Cristobal: http://www.minerasancristobal.com) and these last 3 days have been plenty of work. Still, I am here to support all the last ones and of course checking everything I can about Perth and WA during my freetime. Quite a nice place to live but still no idea on how to find a good and affordable place to live. My wife and I decided to depart to Australia around february 2013. You must understand that coming from a development country as Bolivia, everything looks pricey in Australia, specially Perth. So, what are your toughts about this new coming life. Tell me sh3p69 when are you going to Oz? I will be here on PIO, be sure about that, it helped a lot to know all you guys and will help in this coming path of making the dream true. Best to all of you!!
  14. So my dear friends. Who is still waiting from the MAY GANG? I´m not following the chart. I hope the best for those ones!!! Thank you very much to all those great wishes for my grant! It´s been easier with you to help us and advising us in the way. Now, my OH and I will be talikng this coming wednesday (as I have my free roster week, work in a mine FIFO) and decide when to leave my country. I now it´s gonna be such a change in our lives. We still have no children but wish to do it soon and think it´s going to be harder in other country and alone. SO, I hope we all could make some thread for keeping in touch and, why not, get to know each other in Oz. By the way, we´re going to Perth (WA) and now nobody there. I hope some of you too, let´s start a thread on that matter!! What are your thoughts? Or is there already one? I really didn't check it. BEST LUCK FOR THE LAST ONES!! MAKE YOURSELVES APPEAR ON THE THREAD!
  15. Enjoy it sh3p69!! At last, the final grant!! cheers on the beers you´re gonna take this week off!! jaja.
