  1. Wasn't expecting that reply , you here to stay even if your missus isn't coming ?
  2. Thanks Wattsy , you're right we don't hate OZ at all for the most part we really like it , but we just don't really feel like we could ever call it home ?
  3. Maybe there is a lesson to be learned , but even if we do go back we don't have any regrets about doing it , you could visit for a month or so but until you uproots move , start working send the kids to school here you will never know what living in oz is really like , you have to take the lesson to learn from it !!
  4. I think we've just been unlucky in the street we picked but the rental market is so fierce you don't get a chance to do any research and physically check them out for a few weeks to see if kids do play out etc
  5. Hi Melza , that's the problem, would like to try a different area but don't want the kids to keep changing schools
  6. Spot on Lurcharmily , we do have a lot going for us in oz which is making the decision a hard one. We are saving more money here than we did in uk and enjoying it but your right , something is missing , maybe I'm just set in my ways , I just get the feeling that no matter how long we live here I will never call it my home
  7. Know what you mean when you say Trueman show
  8. Certainly wasn't dying out we're we lived , maybe we were spoilt where we were ?
  9. Well said Rachel , the grass isn't always greener but unless you try it you will never know , no regrets even if we do go home
  10. Hi Vicks , we've met quite a few friends and the kids have made friends at school but come home time they are sitting playing on their I pads , which really saddens me when I think what they used to do , Xbox only got used on rainy days couldn't keep them in :-)
  11. Hi Snifter , I hear what your saying but having to arrange play dates is not the way I grew up , you walked out the front door and all your mates were playing in the street , same for my kids in the UK ,had to drag them in for tea and then again for bedtime
  12. Hi Alaska , we are in north lakes and there's no community spirit at all , would prefer to try a different area but don't want to make the kids change schools again and then again if we go home !
  13. Hi beach pig , we are renting in north lakes which is a lovely area but no community spirit , like they say garage door goes up drive in garage door goes down ?? We had new next door neighbours move in about 6 weeks ago and I don't even know what they look like ?
  14. Hi all , my hubby and kids aged 9 and 11 are totally confused as to whether we should return to the UK or give it a bit longer. We arrived in Brisbane 9 months ago since then we have both secured decent jobs earning a decent wage between us and even saving a healthy sum every week. Our children are happy at school and we are all enjoying Australia so why are we yearning for our old life in the UK ? The main thing that bugs us is that in the UK our kids played out all the time with all of their friends but you just don't see it in OZ (not where we live anyway )!We live 10mins walk from their primary school that has about 1000 students but what do all these kids do after school cause they don't seem to play out and it's driving us and our kids nuts. We really miss our family and friends and all the simple things like going to a real pub with the kids for Sunday lunch or with friends for a drink. We have 3 months left on our rental and can't decide whether to go at the end of that or maybe try another rental in a different area for 6months and then see how we feel at the end of that ?? We love OZ but don't think we could ever truly call it home and not sure we could see ourselves being here forever so do you just bite the bullet and go home rather than prolonging it for another 6 months ???
  15. Hi could you please tell me what the sun screen is as I'm really finding it difficult to find a screen that doesn't flare up my skin. I've had eczema since I was 6 weeks old I'm now 40 and since moving to Brisbane I'm really suffering with eczema and allergies.. I take methotrexate which helps and Elcon cream. I'm really getting down about it as I thought the sun would help. I've been referred to dermatologist but goodness knows how much they'll cost.. Advice would be fab. Thanx!!

  18. Hi we are new to the North Lakes area and our two children are desperate to find new friends to play with after school and weekends. They started Bounty Boulevard state school last week so hopefully friends will start to come about, but in the meantime, they are totally lost after school, and weekends. They are used to playing out with groups of friends but don't seem to see any kids around the area playing out. We take them to the park each night to try and make friends but hardly no kids there either. please advise if anyone can help. Thanx claire

    Mozzies

Hi all , my family and I arrived in Brisbane last Tuesday to start our new life in Oz , first impressions are fab , glorious weather , fab place and extremely friendly people. My biggest concern at the moment is Mosquitos ! We are currently renting a house in Sandgate as a base to explore Brisbane , Sunny coast and Gold Coast .As soon as the sun goes down out come the mozzies , we have an under cover outdoor dining area which can't be used after dark cause the mozzies are everywhere. They plaster the walls and roof of the outdoor area , I'm not exaggerating when I say hundreds in a fairly small area.Is this the norm after dark or am I in a bad area, someone please tell me it's not like this everywhere.Heres hoping for some positive replies. Thanks.......
