  1. Hi We have been in Tassie for eighteen months now and love it. the weather is great, little rain and the winters do get cold but nothing like the UK. I too had never been to Tassie but just got a good feeling about it and moved to the Launceston region. Its the number one family friendly city in Australia! Good luck and if you have any questions about the north of Tassie just ask. I dont know much about jobs as a school teacher.
  2. Hi, Does anyone still pay their NIC's so they are entitled to a uk state pension when it applies? My husband has 28 qualifiying years and I am wondering if it is worth him to keep paying his NIC's until he has reached the 35 years needed.....
  3. my dog was at spotswood for the 30 days and as we were in Tassie we only visited him once when he had only been there for two days. We were going to get a dog walker but spotswood do walk your dog if you are unable to visit them regularly. The site we looked at and called were dogwalks.com.au they were really friendly and they were the ones who said to check with spotswood because they thought the dogs got walked there anyway. Spotwood staff were fantastic as our dog was so nervous and would eat for quiet a few days. They didnt seem to mind me ringing for updates in the first two weeks then we emailed them. They helped us arrange for our dog to come to tassie, it was cheaper and less stressful for him in the end to be flown into launceston. They are fantastic, dont worry your animal is in good hands. I am so glad i brought my dog, he loves it here.. let is know how you get on

    7 months in Tas

Hi Your seem to love it like we do. We arrived in Tassie in October 2011 and have never looked back. When we got here we had no jobs, schools for the kids, car or even a house to stay in. We booked a cabin on a big4 site for the first month so we could look around at areas before signing uo for a rental. So glad we did. Kids settled into schools straight away and they are so popular because of their accents. We both got jobs within a month and we bought a property on the east tamar river in september. There is such a lovely community spirit in tassie and we have many friends. The kids have plent of surrogate uncle/aunts and grandparents around. Even the dog loves it, no more walks in the rain! :jimlad::ssign19: Yes it does get cold in winter, good job it doesnt last long. we have ordered a new heat pump for our house and it being fitted next week. just in time as its started to get chilly in the evenings.

    Tasmania

Don't forget the Launceston region, we don't seem to get mentioned much. Slightly more laid back and smaller than Hobart but has lovely scenery, rivers etc. Wouldn't move from Launceston for no one. We have been in Tassie for 10 months and have never looked back... good luck
  6. Golden Arrow Pet Shipper were fantastic with our dog, made it so easy, competitive prices and nice small family run business. Best thing we did bring our dog over. He loves Tassie
