  1. Interesting to read everyone's comments and to see that a high % of income is spent on rent or mortgage payments. I don't think I would be comfortable paying anymore in Australia than I do in the UK as a percentage of my take home pay, mainly as I know I can manage here so I should (!) manage there. Using the Hoffs mantra of 2.2 uk to aus pay equalling a similar lifestyle I am about 2.8 so hoping there may be more disposable income to put aside to allow us to travel and see Australia whilst we live there as its a chance in a lifetime opportunity to live and work in such an amazing country that might never be offered again.... so I don't understand why I sometimes think... Am I doing the right thing?!

  3. Hi everyone so I was wondering what is the percentage that PIO folk spend on the rental or mortgage payment? I am still in the UK and currently My mortgage payment is 33% of my take home pay. My girlfriend has just got a job last week so that figure will come down but the last year has seen us pretty much live on my wage which has been manageable but with her wage that figure will be about 20%. When we get to Australia we will arrive with a job in place for me and until my gf gets a job its a single wage again. I was trying to see what people roughly spend on rentals or mortgage as a percentage of their pay to get an idea of what rentals we could expect to afford. I've been looking at ones at about a third of my income but wondering if that is too much to be spending in Australia? Any input welcomed, Heather
  4. Interview seemed to go really well and I'm being recommended for a position but due to holidays that could be a couple of weeks before I hear. Have a good weekend everyone!
  5. Relaxed I can do! We have been emailing back and forth plus I contacted a Pom locally via another website who just happened, by absolute fluke, to have worked with one of my interviewers and told me not to worry as they are lovely.... I have done my research on the area but thank you thewebweazel as the more info I have, the less I feel the need for a reccie which means more valuable moving funds
  6. Hi everyone So as the title says I have a telephone interview in the morning assuming the call conference can be arranged . The position is for a radiation therapist which I know the wage is approx 77,000 AUD currently. They are kindly offering between 5-8,000 AUD relocation expenses along with 3 months accommodation. I say kindly as I contacted the company and enquired about jobs so I didn't expect a thing. Having read many posts I think that wage is going to be ok for myself and my partner to live on until a second wage comes in, would you guys agree? The job is in regional victoria, Wodonga to be exact. I need to apply for accreditation and registration before I apply for a visa but the visa is something I hope to discuss tomorrow briefly to see if the company will sponsor me or whether I go state sponsored... I'm not sure how the July changes will affect that as I have not looked into it yet. Anyone with any information on Wodonga and the surrounding area, interview tips Aussie style will be great. I have been reading this forum daily for months as I got to this point and as I said in my first post it has an amazing and invaluable amount of information and I've found myself forming a slight addiction to.... But I'm not the only one by the sound of it
  7. Hi PIO! I am an avid reader of this forum and have found out lots by popping by each day and having a read! I could not ask for a better source of info when going through the decision of emigrating to Australia. I am applying for accreditation for my qualifications at the moment and when that comes back it will be visa time so this is my question to you guys with the knowledge! I would be eligible for the 119 or 175 and I cannot see what would be best for me to apply to! Is there any reason to apply to one in preference to the other? If an employer offers me sponsorship (likely) would I be daft to not go for the 119? I know it ties me for two years but I don't see that as any kind of problem and the fees are cheaper too as far as I can see... Look forward to your replies and in the meantime I will get back to reading the other posts!
