  1. Although i have yet to use them this site http://www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au/locations/melbourne/ seemed to offer slightly cheaper hire deals than going direct to the named companies website. I only looked at a few offers. Seems to offer no fee cancellation as well so if you find a better deal you can change your mind. Also when i booked in USA (very different i know) i managed to find some very attractive Hertz codes for some serious discounts. Invest lots of time (if you have it) trawling some discount code sites for good savings.
  2. My uncle lives within a few streets of Gilbert Road junction with Regent Street (just Google Regent Street and go West to its end). Its at the top of tram 11 & 112 which take you into Melbourne through Fitzroy North. I loved living around here. I guess its Preston (although his post code says Reservoir). Both his children went to St Raphael's Primary. Beautiful little school. Afraid i have no first hand knowledge of the areas you listed.
  3. I'm stilling mourning the loss of the mighty Fitzroy. Don't pick Pies or Demons.
  4. As long as his mother was still an Australian citizen when he was born then he can apply. I have just finished doing this, i was a bit nervous at first because i knew my mother had been granted UK citizenship, which back in the day annulled her Oz citizenship. All was good though, she applied 6 years after i was born.
  5. When i applied earlier this year for my citizenship i was requested to provide an AFP check. In the small print somewhere it said and i paraphrase...'if you have VISITED Australian in the last 10 years a AFP check is required'. My CO confirmed that because i was last in Oz 5 years ago on a 4 week holiday i had to provide a AFP check. Hope that helps.
  6. Although this is quite an old thread somebody in the same position as me might chance upon this. I am currently applying for Citizenship by Descent and on my form 118 i noted i had visited Australia on holiday for 4 weeks. My C.O. has just emailed to say i need a AFP national police check for those 4 weeks i spent on holiday. And the previous posters are correct, its a right bugger to pay for. I have asked my uncle to pay, bless him . I had read on the form about 12 months but her email stated "any amount of days" spent in Australia requires an AFP NCP form CR501. Once again so close yet so far.
  7. I've just started on this forum so don't take this as gospel, however i believe your statement is true provided your fathers parent was still an Australian citizen at the time of his birth. I am currently going through this process. The one stumbling block was checking if my mother had applied before my birth for UK citizenship, she had not so i can go ahead with my claim. However i now have to get a AFP police check for the 4 weeks i spent on holiday in Oz 7 years ago. I warn you its like one giant puzzle, in order to move a step forward sometimes you have to make several side steps first. Good luck.
