Apologies if this has been asked before but I can't find it on the search. Do I need to take the IELTS if I score over 60 points without it? I'm looking to get a 190 visa (NSW) as a gasfitter. I have read that some occupations require you to take the IELTS regardless of points? Thanks in advance.

Hi mate I'm a plumber/gasfitter at the start of the visa process. I've spent hours on here researching there's loads of helpful people on here. Basically first off you need to see which visa you are eligible for depending on how many points you have. I'm going to apply for the 189 general skilled visa which allows me to live and work anywhere. You then need to get your skills assesed by VETASSES, take the IELTS exam (if you need the points) then lodge your EOI (expression of interest).

Wow thats pretty harsh! Charging for a visa they didn't issue!

Can anyone tell me what happens if you get denied a visa on medical grounds? Do you have to pay the full cost of the visa prior to the medical stage? My daughter has a heart condition so am worried she may not get a visa and we would be significantly out of pocket. Or do you not pay for the visa until it is actually granted? Many thanks.

Peter said "if she is granted permanent residence she will be entitled to Medicare. Her condition is one that will certainly concern the DIAC but not lead to certain rejection. When medicals are provided DIAC will likely ask for consultants reports and these will determine whether she meets the medical requirement or not"

Thanks for the reply Terry. We have done a fair bit of research and like you say it seems to depend on how much they think it will cost the government in the first five years. If it is going to cost more than $35k they will probably refuse. I can't see it costing them anywhere near that much for my daughter as she only sees the consultant twice a year for a check up and is on regular medication which we will pay for. We plan on applying on our own purely down to costs. It's looks like its going to cost us around £5.5k without an agent so can't really afford another £2k on an agent. Who did you get to do the medical report on your son? Is it a case of getting our consultant cardiologist to write a letter? Thanks Danny

Is there not a seperate gas fitter assessment? The majority of my work is repairing/installing/servicing central heating boilers. Ive got 8 years experience, am Gas Safe registered but the only "plumbing" I do is replacing hot water cylinders so I don't know if I would pass the plumbing practical?

Congratulations on getting your visa! My wife and I are looking to start the visa process however, we have a daughter with a heart disease so are unsure as to wether she will pass the medical? Do you know if your son failed the medical would you still have to of paid the full amount of the visa? We are concerned that we will pay out a huge amount of money getting skills assessed and visa fees only to be denied on health grounds. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Are there any gasfitters who have had their skills assessed by VETASSES? On the TRA website it says VETASSES are the assessor however their website only lists plumbers? Also am I right in thinking that it costs $3500 to get assesed?! Thanks in advance

Do you think we will struggle to get a visa? Would it be possible that we get offered a visa providing we contribute towards the cost of her healthcare?
