  1. thank you, I will look at those sites to try and get a better idea, will also try to find the role I want to apply for on Seek to get an idea.
  2. I am hoping someone may come along who will be able to help. In the UK most jobs are advertised with a salary range so when a prospective employer asks what your salary expectations are you are able to answer with a thought out relevant response. I work in retail banking and have found that in Australia salary ranges are not advertised with the role. I thought I would be able to contact the person advertising and enquire about the salary range prior to submitting an application, however they all seem to be online with no contact details given and they all are asking for minimum salary expectations prior to submitting. Now I don't want to price myself to high therefore making myself not suitable and I also don't want to price myself to low. So my question is does anyone know what the salary ranges would be for : A Bank Manager A Regional / Area Manager I have googled and looked at websites and they seem to vary a great deal, So I am hoping that someone who works in these industries may be able to give more reliable information. Thank you
  3. As an Aussie living in England I have been here for almost 20 years and really like it. We have two young kids and both are in great jobs. A couple of years ago after having my youngest child I decided I wanted to return to Australia ( Sydney), to cut a long story short house went on the market - failed to sell. Just as we were giving up ( after 4 years ) we decided to take it off the market and sure enough it sold that week Since then my main thought has been HELP are we doing the right thing!!! We are not moving to Aus for a better life - we have a great one here. We are moving because I want to be closer to my parents and my other half loves me enough to give it a go! I guess this post is just really a Hello to everyone, and a general question are the nerves normal? It is a huge thing moving so far away ( I guess I thought it would be easier since really I am just returning home ) My timeline so far: I have resigned from my job now with a month left to go ( being made harder by my boss constantly asking me if I have changed my mind...ahhh no not yet ) My other half is able to stay on working on a consultancy basis whilst we are in Aus so we have some security there should we decide to come back. We have booked our flight and our shippers ( our house currently looks like a tornado has been through it - please tell me this is normal) They come two days after I finish work..should have really given myself more time there I think We have told the In laws who live in England.....that went.... really well.....but kind of reinforced why I wanted to go in the first place all those years ago, but unfortunately in telling them we have probably ended any chance of a proper relationship again for our kids and their grandparents here ( their choice, not ours ) We have accommodation already planned for when we arrive which is one less thing to worry about! My main concerns at this stage are: My eldest (10) is really sensitive, she gets upset when she thinks about leaving her school / friends. Her last day at holiday club was awful, She found it really hard to say goodbye to everyone and really worked herself up. I am dreading her last day at school as is she. I keep reassuring her that if she is really unhappy after a set period we will return - we have assured her that she will have a say in where we end up and we have given ourselves 9 months to make that choice ( not an ideal length of time I know but we wanted to work with the school year ) - I am wondering how other people's kids of a similar age coped with such a massive move? and less of a concern but something that I know will make my other half very happy is the need to find a decent curry when we get there Last time we went he kept going on about wanting a decent curry and not being able to get one! We are moving near Cronulla / Sutherland Shire area so if anyone around there can recommend one please do....I make a pretty good chicken madras but not as good as a takeaway one he says. Any thoughts, comments, your experiences or just hints and tips very much appreciated.
  4. To open a basic current account ( one with no cheque book / OD facility) you still need to provide two forms of ID normally - One verifying you and one verifying your address. Such as a passport ( can be foreign) and a utility bill. Credit history will only be applicable really if you are going for a non basic account. Where I work the only credit check we do is to make sure you are not bankrupt or CCJ's against you.
  5. we are looking at shire too ksarah - I grew up there and love it.
  6. I'm another aussie trying to get home. Been in UK ( greater manchester /yorkshire) for 14 years and have married and now have two children - Hubby got his visa just over a year ago and validated it last May. The only thing stopping us now is waiting for our house to sell - so incredibly frustrating when the thing that is stopping you is beyond your control. I must admit I have been worried about the cost of living in Sydney - we have a good comfortable life here and a bit scared to go back as a lot has changed in those 14 years. I did a comparable shop when I was last over there and was pleasantly surprised that it only cost about £10 dearer than my shop here and with the wages being higher we should hopefully come out even or better off. I too like some of the other posters kept my medicare card current and my Driving Licence ( when I switched it over to a UK licence was told my australian one would be cancelled and I had to send it in with my app - however a couple of years ago I received a renewal notice for my aussie licence so someone messed up somewhere ) I also kept bank accounts etc to try and make it easier when we returned. My biggest worry is trying to figure out what I want to do when return home, been in the same career for almost 20 years ( since I left school) and kind of feel like its time for a change...who knows maybe hubby can get a massive paying job and I can become a lady of leisure

    Colds!

I'm suffering too Matt, had no voice most of last week ( hubby was thrilled) then this week finally started feeling better and Hubby starts complaining of being sick, sow I think he has passed it back to me again Just worried now I will pass it on to the kids then there will be no escape lol
  8. I'm sorry if this annoys/offends but It really gets me when people say they are skint or have no money to do the things they want and then when they list their outgoings there is stuff like gym membership or sky etc etc. You need to prioritise what is most important to you and then go for that first. I.e whats more important gym or a bike so you can race? Could you buy a machine/weights so that you can work out at home saving money in the long term, Do you go to the pub every week? do you pay for TV these are all things that could if you wanted be cut back or stopped and money put aside for your bike. We are saving up for Aus so every penny is going into our account - no meals out, no pub, no movies, our days out are free based activities - Is it hard? Yes it is sometimes, but I know where I want to be. Maybe you should sit down and prioritise what you want most and what will bring you most happiness and cut out whatever you can to get that! I hope you get your bike one day
  9. Have you thought about the Sutherland shire or Engadine, Heathcote, or down towards Wollongong ( there are direct trains into CBD although don't know timings, just know a lot of people did it) well done on the job, good to know you can get jobs with the banks before going over, that's what I am trying to do as well
  10. If it makes you feel any better I am currently studying for my Life in the UK test - Have you seen the questions on that? I take it into work and ask people who have lived here their whole life and they don't even know most of the answers lol ( I am aussie my hubby english, we are moving back to Aus but I have decided to get my citizenship for the UK so that we can return if need be)
  11. I did a shop on coles - we normally spend approx £130 / fortnight including home delivery online and in Aus (Sydney) it worked out approx $10 - $15 dearer, However I would assume the quality on some items would be better as it was not always possible to do like for like. For example from being in Sydney last time I know the chicken breasts were a lot better than the ones I get over here. I also buy major stuff like 10kg bags of rice when it's on special whereas just paid full price in my Aus shop, So I imagine that most weeks it will work out about the same as long as you are prepared to substitute and look for good deals etc.
  12. I don't need to keep telling myself that. All I have to do is look at my children and see the two extremely well adjusted, happy, generous little people that I have the privilege to be a mum to and know that I am doing something right There is a word for people like you: In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotionalresponse[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. I don't believe in feeding trolls. I believe that the original topic has been answered and then some and feel that this topic has just become somewhere for you to try and provoke other users.

    Leaving now!!

    Very jealous. Good Luck!
  14. Being an attentive parent has nothing to do with having an accident. Accidents are just that an accident. I have two children and yes they have had accidents ranging from scraped knees to broken bones, does that make me any less of an attentive parent than you? No it does not. It just means I am human!
  15. As an aussie living in the UK the aussie food I miss are: Lamingtons an aussie picnic bar ( dont like the uk ones) twisties sausages ( I remember coming over here and being shocked by the sausages lol) fairy bread ( no one over here has any idea what this is and I am ashamed to say my 5yo and 1yo are yet to taste it...really need to make some) aussie meat pies full of chunky meat not full of minced meat like the ones I seem to get over here schnitzels - used to love chicken schnitzel sandwiches cherry ripes and strawberry freddo frogs.
