Thanks all. My concern with the RRV was just that question of the job offer. Is an offer sufficient in itself?

SAP consultant - I think on the skills list he's a schedule 1 ICT something or other. It's a question of timing really we don't want to go back yet but he will be 39 in May so in that sense having a 5 year window would be helpful whereas for an RRV you would need a job offer and any employer is not going to wait around.

Hi thanks, less than 2 years. I think about 15 months in total. It's a questions of timing really. If it wasn't for the cost then I'd probably do the new app. As that would give us 5 years whereas an RRV would give us a year at most I think.

Hi, we currently hold expired 175 skilled migration visas. We were weighing the options of applying for either a brand new skilled visa or an RRV. Obviously an RRV would be easier and cheaper but I'm uncertain about whether we would qualify. Our only potential tie back to OZ would be a job offer. We have no property, family or other substantial ties to OZ but my husbands job is in demand so was thinking a job offer would be a possibility. I have heard however that a job offer would qualify. It would have to be some kind of pre-existing and ongoing employment. Does anyone have any experience of this? From the information I've read online a job offer would seem OK. All help very very gratefully received.

How exciting! Brisbane is lovely I hope you have a great time. As for the lounges - to be honest they all remind me of, well, waiting rooms! I remember one in Singapore I think which has a gadget which could pour beer in a glass from a bottle but other than that it's a nice to do I guess. I've taken kids into lounges and it's a great way to be unpopular! They may be a bounce to the pound if there is a no vote!

Hi, congrats! I think Brisbane is very very good for children. It wasn't great for work opportunities for me in professional services but it has all the lovely weather, you can live by the beach and seems less expensive than other places.

thats very interesting - we have had some compelling reasons to come back to the UK but I think all we are likely to have as a reason to go back will be a job offer.

For me it's about weighing it all up once armed with all the facts - I've had some really invaluable help on this forum . It's hard when you ask a question because you don't want to bore everyone with your life story but at the same time you need to describe the issue. I'm really surprised to find myself talking about my mother's condition on here as I haven't even told friends. I'm going to stop typing before I get philosophical! bless you. That's the boat I'm in - mum seems to be doing well but we lost Dad very suddenly after he seemed to be clear and you just don't know how things are going to go. I will go and speak to a migration agent I think and try and work it out. As Maggie May says there is always a risk they will change the rules.

We had pretty much made up our minds to come back to OZ very shortly after returning to the UK but life has taken over a bit - family health problems. I don't think living in limbo is much fun but if we are going to be here in the short term then I'd rather get a job, house etc. it would be nice to understand if by doing so we burn our bridges.

I dont know know you or your circumstances and you don't know mine. I'm asking a factual question about RRVs. I'm really not asking a 'should I stay or should I go' type question. There is no need for such emotion.

Hi, yes well of course. I have travelled a lot both as a child and adult. For me it's not about picking a 'side' and sticking to it. If our visa options are limited then obviously this will factor into our strategy. The general gist I'm getting is that a job offer in oz wouldn't be enough to get us an RRV. There would have to be something over and above that.
