  1. Hi Dashi, No I'm not a GP, I'm a PhD physicist. That said both the central coast and the Pittwater are very nice places to eat. The central coast is about 90 mins from central Sydney and has beautiful beaches and cheaper houses (a new 4 bed will probably set you back around $500000, which sounds a lot but as a GP you'll probably be looking at $150000 per year or so? the one thing I missed about the central coast is a lack of restaurants and good cafes/bars etc. there are some but its slim pickings. Pittwater however is even more beautiful, being a peninsula it has gorgeous beaches facing the sea for surf or swim, and pittwater beaches facing the inlet, which have no waves and are gently shelving for kids and families. There are more restaurants and bars (although not as many as UK) but Mona Vale is only 30 mins drive from Manly which has everything, and from there is 30 mins on a ferry into central Sydney. So having lived in both, Northern beaches is where I would recommend. The central coast is still there for visits and holidays but I crave some night life and things to do, occasionally. I hope this helps Chris
  2. Yes, PSS were very good in all, apart from losing a full box!
  3. thanks for the link to chinamatchers, but they are also out of stock!
  4. I asked for a full set replacement as its n longer available, so I asked for the full replacement price of 500 quid, they said they are not liable and said they will give 150 quid, minus 100 pounds admin fee! its a joke, by the way the company was Removal Claims Service, Claire House, Bridge Street, Leatherhead, Surrey KT22 8BZ. as used by PSS!
  5. I didn't dishwash anything, just make sure it looks clean! If it looks mucky its inviting the inspector to have a closer look. I just got all the dirt off the bike tyres and gold clubs with a tooth brush and then hosed it all down and dried it.....no Jeyes was used at any stage!
  6. I had the dinner service as a named item on the insurance valued at 500 quid, but because they said they only lost part of it (1 box of the 3) then they are not liable!!!!!
  7. Hi, I am a 40 year old professional pommie male with a 35yr old wife and two kids (3yrs and 0.25yrs) looking to meet up with other families with kids in Mona Vale/Warriewood/Newport areas. Does anyone know of any groups or places to meet up? I have seen a british flag in a tree in the flying fox care park in Mona Vale and wondered if this was an Ex-pat group meeting point? Thanks Chris
  8. Also, look into Michael Page Engineering agency for jobs, although they won't take you seriously until you're here
  9. I emmigrated last year and yes its a massive step. Tell yourself its just for a year...and I guarantee you're be telling that story to your Australian grandkids in 40 years time Also, you have a degree and are an engineer, so you will be paid well here. I have a PhD and was struggling to make ends meet in UK, here, although its expensive in sydney, you get paid a lot more, so it all balances out.
  10. Hi All, Just wanted to be sure everyone insures their stuff adequately and read the small print. PSS lost a boix containing some of our wedding dinner set, but because it was only part lost they would not pay out! Read the small print people!
  11. Hi All, This is my first post. I moved to the central coast about 3 months ago but I am moving down to Mona Vale in 2 weeks. Does anyone know any good nurseries for a 3 year old? Also I would like to meet up with fellow poms in the area. Regards, Chris
