  1. Hello We are about to start compiling quotes on shipping a 20ft container from North England to Melbourne and plan to bargain hard for the best possible price. Would love to hear what price hard-nosed negotiators heading to Melbourne have achieved in the last 12 months. Your top tips for success also appreciated. As a way of saying thanks, we will post the results of our own efforts. Thanks!
  2. Hello Another newbie questions from me - can anyone recommend a reliable rental estate agent in Melbourne? Views on who to avoid also welcomed. With thanks in advance B
  3. Hi Alaska Thanks for the quick reply; as for furniture - or more pointedly the lack of - we are planning to embark on The Great Indoor Camping Adventure ...
  4. Hello I am still a newbie to this forum so I'm keen to benefit from people's experience; promise to share the benefit of my own at some point in the future ... I would like to know how soon to arrive in Melbourne before I start a full time job in March 2012 - yes, very lucky, I know. I will have to do all the usual things one needs to do when arriving in a new country to start a new life, crucially, finding a place to rent for myself, my husband and our three year old daughter. I'm thinking 10 days; husband suggests 2 weeks - what do others think? Cheers Bea
  5. Hello This is a quick - and, sorry, very tardy reply - to thank everyone who offered their reply to my question on what to bring vs what to leave behind when migrating to Australia. I really appreciate you taking the time to do so. And have found your experiences and advise very helpful. Cheers! B
  6. Hello, My husband and I plan to rent a small self-furnished flat while we find our way in our new home of Melbourne; I'd like to know how much, per month, we should expect to pay for storing the contents of either a half or full 20ft container (we've not decided what to go for yet). All helpful replies keenly welcomed! Thank-you.
  7. Hello My husband and I and our 3 year old daughter are moving from the UK to my native Australia in January. We are unsure whether to take everything or if it will be more cost effective to just take our clothes and some of our most treasured possessions and re-buy the rest in Australia. Also, if you are someone who did take everything, are there some things you now wish you didn't bring because they proved costly to ship or unnecessary in Australia. Looking forward to your thoughts! Thanks.
