  1. So sounds like $513 is pretty good then? Its a 1 bed apartment (looks to be over one of the shops near to Clarkson Station). Lets hope some property owners have any ideas. Obviously we are willing to look at slightly more expensive properties if they look to be really nice.
  2. Hi all. Myself and my partner are on the hunt for a nice short term let anywhere in Perth. Preferably near to a train station and it must have internet access. As there is just the two of us we are really only looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom property (house or apartment). Our cheapest quote at the moment is for a place in Clarkson coming in at $513 per week. We are looking to arrive in January 2014 and would like an 8 week let Does anyone have any ideas? I have looked on all the holiday lettings websites and also on gumtree but they all seem to be really expensive and too large for our needs.
  3. Doesn’t look good for me then? Plenty of roles come up both in Perth and nationwide which I could go for...trouble is…what have I got that others haven't? It’s annoying because I was always led to believe that spatial science was a profession in demand. Spatial Scientist and Cartographer appear on the shortage list and I was assessed passed and granted a Visa using Spatial Scientist....now I find out the GIS industry is just as poor in Oz as it is in the UK!
  4. Im not overly fussed about moving into the mining field. Any GIS role would be good for me or any type of role that includes spatial data or anything geographical. I used to work for Nokia Maps as a cartographer and now i work for a local authority looking after thier land and property database. I have also worked on projects involving investigation into land and property ownership. So it all involved land, maps and spatial data. This would be the kind of role i would love in Australia. The trouble im having is peeling away all of the mining type roles and finding companies involved in non mining.
  5. Hi all We are looking to make the permanant move out to Perth in January 2014 and although im really looking forward to it, i do have some concerns. Im a GIS (Geographical Information Systems) professional with 10 years experience in both the public and private sectors. I mainly specialise more on the mapping side of GIS rather than the analysis side of the business. I have never been out of work and i am worried about going to Oz without a job. I have been appling for positions from the UK and i have had no luck. I also dropped off a few CV's by hand when i was in Oz on my validation trip...again with no success. I managed to get some feedback from one company who told me that because of the mining downturn there are lots of GIS people who have experience in mining in the job market. I have been told that networking is the key...its not what you know its who you know (that old chestnut). Does anyone on here have any experience in my field of work who may have some contacts that they are willing to share with me. I am an active user of Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter and i have lost count of the amount of companies i have linked up with. I would also be interested to hear about any good agencies who have jobs in my field. I dont mind having to contract for a while to get my foot in the door. Any advice would be gratefully received
  6. I would also recommend going along to one of the many emigration shows like 'Down Under Live'. We got loads of helpful information from the seminars and the people at the stands..it was a day well spent
  7. I did it myself...it really was very easy i thought; but my case was very streight forward (just two of us on one visa). This forum is brill as people are always willing to give help and advice. I couldn't have done it without using this forum to ask questions on some of the parts i wasn't 100% sure about.
  8. could you not convert it into legal coinage...i.e. US Gold Eagles, Krugerrands etc....it might work out cheaper. Then you can just import based on the face value and not the gold content?
  9. I too am in this field of work...i have never seen any sponsorship positions but then again maybe i have been looking in the wrong places. From what i have seen GIS jobs range from GIS Officer/Technician roles ($50k+) to the high end GIS Geology roles (£100k+) I would love to be able to get into the GIS geology stuff but i havent got any experiance of mining/geology. Im trying to keep my eyes open for a junior or trainee positions but they are very rare. There seems to be plenty of GIS positions in Perth but from what i have seen is the majority are for senior or mining positions. There is definately more opportunities in GIS in Australia.. I take it from your location you will be experienced in mining/geology GIS so i would have thought you would have no problem getting work.
  10. I used a highlighter to add some colour to my black and white docs, this may not be acceptable for the important docs but it seemed to work ok for our de-facto relationship evidence, i had mortgage statements in B&W, I just highlighted in blue the joint names at the top.
  11. We are looking at living in Perth, WA. There are multiple reasons why we have settle on Perth the main ones being...The Job market for my profession looks good (Spatial Scientist...i.e. Map Monkey ), The climate, housing quality looks far more superior than the rest of Oz, Rental prices seem reasonable (as long as your away from the beach), its closer to the UK and the time zone is a little more favorable. I am still open to settling elsewhere but Perth is winning at the moment
  12. Feels good though doesn't it? Your heart flutters a little bit when you see the word 'Adelaide' on the email address...lol
  13. VIsa Granted on Monday (09/07/2012)!!! Yay!!! The waiting is over....now the hard part...moving!!!!.......Here we go again
  14. You were there illegally??? That's not going to look good and i'm sure the FBI will have something to say about that?
  15. Maidenhead Adult £200 Child £85 Fantastic place and possibly the cheapest in the UK??
  16. £200 at Maidenhead and they were very good....we travelled down from Birmingham and it still worked out loads cheaper than our local clinics in Brum who wanted £290 and £310. Well worth going to Maidenhead if your a less than 2hrs away.
  17. Visa GRANTED....yesterday!!!!!! 175 GSM visa. Applied on 19th April 2012, CO allocated 4th June 2012, Medicals taken 25th June 2012, Visa Granted 9th July 2012
  18. you would have thought they would want to get the older applications out of the way before they start looking at the new ones. I think that was the reason why some of us got a CO so quickly after we submitted our application. The priority list has always been the same, sponsorship applications first followed by the general applications.
  19. It looks like your dates are similar to ours... 175 application online submitted 19/04/2012, Our CO was assigned on 04/06/2012, PCCs uploaded 22/06/2012, Medicals taken 25/06/2012, Medicals finished uploading on 03/07/2012 Now....waiting..............
  20. It certainly has been very quick...it took us both by surprise. In some respects it has been good as our families now fully "believe us" as we have been keeping them up to date with the process. In other respects it bad, as we need to start saving some serious dosh and this has left us with less time.
  21. Hi all Myself and the OH are on the brink of having our VISA granted, but the waiting is killing us! I keep finding myself checking my emails and the VISA status page literally 5 or 6 times a day to see if anything has changed even though i know our case officer has gone home due to the time difference ...lol. We submitted our 175 application back on April 19th 2012, our CO was assigned on June 4th 2012 and was told to do form 80's, Police checks and the medicals all within 28 days. We went for our meds last week on the 25th June, within 48 hrs our online status changed to "Further medical results received" but the HIV result was still outstanding. Yesterday the status changed again to "HIV blood test received" and a further entry was made saying "Further medical results received". This entry was made a day after the 28 day deadline but i did upload our medicals receipts to prove we had taken them within the 28 day period. So now....we wait....this has been by far the worst part of the whole process...knowing we are so close. Our whole future lives are now in the hands of one person sat in an office in Adelaide...for all i know the CO could be on holiday or off sick. Patience is a virtue.
  22. Hi...no we didnt get any answer to this. We have since been assigned our CO and she hasnt requested this elusive Form 10 so i guess it will be for new applicants under the new rules next month and nothing for us to worry about. All our CO wanted was Form 80's, Medicals and Police check. For our defacto evidence we uploaded the usual stuff..bank account statements in joint names, insurance premiums in both names, utility bills in both names, we had polling cards which had both of us at the same address and we had our original mortgage offer from 2006 again in joint names and then a couple of mortage statements from random years. Seemed to do the trick...our CO hasn't asked for anything more with regards to our De-facto relationship.
  23. the medicals appear on the checklist from day 1 but you shouldn't go and do them untill you are requested to do so by your CO. I think its mentioned on the document checklist.
  24. I create maps for Satellite Navigation and other online map sites. I was assessed under "Other Spatial Scientist".
  25. We had 80 points in the end as i unexpectedly aced the IELTS test which gave the extra points.
