  1. Hi all I just wondered if anyone has recently gone through a RPL as a Business Analyst with the ACS? I'm currently in Brisbane on a 457 visa with another 12 months before I can apply for PR and avoid a skills assessment. I have the necessary 8 years experience to submit the RPL but have read / heard that it's a bit of a nightmare. I thought that the RPL would focus on demonstrating practical application of one of the Knowledge Areas from the CBOK; for a BA this is primarily the Problem Solving and Modelling KA, but having read the form it looks like they want you to demonstrate knowledge across all of the Knowledge Areas. If anyone has been through it recently and got a positive or negative outcome, it would be great to hear from you. I'm really in two minds as to whether the effort and cost of the RPL is worth out, or if I just stick it out for a further 12 months on the 457 and hope DIAC don't change the rules. Thanks M

  3. Hi everyone, We have been living in Victoria Point for two weeks now, so far we love it. Just a few state school issues but other than that, we have settled really well. Was just wondering if anyone fancies meeting up? My husband is at work all day and Im not working at the moment. I have two girls, a 5 1/2 year old in prep and a 3 year old (cant manage to get her into any childcare at the moment). I have a car so more than happy to travel. If anyone knows of any good kids playgroups in the area, that would be great too. Holly x
  4. Hi I'm moving to Lota from the UK in a few weeks and will looking to make some new friends. Leaving the family back at home for a bit while I get everything set up so meeting some new people will really help me settle in. I like to go out for a social drink, and am quite into my sports; cycling and football. If your interested in meeting up for a beer once I'm over then it would be great to hear from you. Marc
  5. Whereabouts are you going proview? Good luck David. Look forward to reading your arrival report!
  6. Lovely to hear from others, thank you. This site make such a difference! Good luck to you both. You are right, will all be worth it and good things never come easy I suppose x
  7. Hi, Know this sounds stupid but we are all set to go to Brisbane in the next couple of months and I am all of a sudden petrified. Is this normal? Im worrying about everything, not liking it, not having enough money (my husband has a job but I wont be working for the first time). We have done the sums and on paper everything looks great. I am just really scared as its getting closer. Someone please tell me im not going mad!
  8. Hi everyone, Someone has told me there is no point in shipping oak furniture as it splits in the heat and we should get mango wood. Is this true? Just debating shipping over our dining table. Thanks
  9. Does anyone know if 457 visa holders pay more tax than residents?? Thanks
  10. Thanks again Rudi. Off to take a look around the bayside area on 6th Feb. Cant wait! x
  11. Hi everyone, Just wondered if anyone lives in the area/kids attend Redland Primary State School? I am trying to find out as much info as possible as to whether its a good school etc. Would really appreciate some help on Redland or any other schools nearby. I have a 5 year old daughter. Thanks so much
  12. Thanks for your comments. I understand its only a temporary visa and the only reason we are going down this route is to get to oz quickly and they have told us they will sponsor for a perm visa as soon as the 457 is granted (whether we are still in the uk or Australia). We are just confused as the job was advertised and discussed as permanent position and not contract. There is no probationary period in there which surprised us!
  13. Hi everyone, just received my husbands employment contract going out to oz on a 457 visa but am a little worried. It says the sponsorship period is for 4 years but it says the contract is reviewed annually. Is this normal in oz? Does anyone know whether this is normal as its a 457 they cant say its permanent or something?

  15. Thanks Rudi. My husband has just had a job offer so fingers crossed we will be heading out soon x
  16. Hi Noticed this thread is about 6months old now, have there been any changes to the above recently? Thanks Holly
  17. Thank you so much for answering. Good luck with your application. Fingers crossed we will be in your boat soon! It does worry me that we might settle in the two years but for some reason the 856 isn't granted. Did your lawyer say say most 856's are granted?
  18. Hi everyone, Just wondering if you can help me. My husband has his first skype ineterview next week (nothing may come of it but you never know!). We were just wondering if its expected that we will want a 457 visa from the employer or can we ask for a 856? I am just worried that if we go for the 457 we may move our young family to oz and then not get perm residency as his job might not be on the SOL list in two years or he loses his job etc. We also dont want to put the employer off by asking for too much. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks
  19. Thanks again everyone. Petal, my husband is in the same boat, no degree but holds the ISEB BA Diploma. He has been working in banking for over 10 years but only as a project manager/business analyst/consultant for around 3.5 years. Can I ask whether you got extra points for the diploma? Are you looking for a job before you go or waiting until you get your visa? We have been looking but can mostly find contract work. Hope all goes well for you!
  20. Thank you so much for that. Spoke to an emigration consultant today that completely confused us! We were of the same opinion as you. We have looked at the points test in relation to the relevant job experience and we would only be looking to claim 3 years relevant experience (although my husband has worked in that area for many years). Do you know if that means they will only be looking for a reference to cover the years we wish to claim or do they just go back over a set period regardless? Sorry for all the questions
  21. Hi everyone. Just wondered if anyone knows what is needed for the ICT business analyst skills assessment? Is this something that can be written by my husbands boss or do they contact all employers individually to cover the period? Thanks
  22. Thank you for your reply. When I looked on the immi.gov.au website, it said that we could apply for a 176 visa. Are they doing away with that visa then? Thanks
  23. Hello everyone. I have been reading through everyones threads the last few week and its been a great help. Myself, husband and two girls are hoping to move out to Sydney as soon as we can. My husband works as a project manager/business analyst here for a large bank and we have been looking at the types of visas we can apply for. My husband's uncle has been living in Sydney since 1985 so we are thinking of him sponsoring us too. Does anyone work in the same industry at all? We were hoping my husband would get a job and be sponsored by the company but everything we have looked at only offers temporary contracts so this looks doubtful. The money paid isnt as much as here although we arent put off as we will gain in many more ways. We just want to make sure he will be able to get a good job as the girls are small, I wont be working for a couple of years. My husband here has permanent work and that is what we are hoping for there. Any help with info on work and visas would be great!
