  1. Thanks Cal. I just had a look on the Jimboomba area on real-estate.com.au - Wow it looks beautiful. We were trying to gauge property prices and get ideas of reasonable commutes. What facilities are there in local area?
  2. Indeed - it's exciting times but also quite scary at the same time, and sometimes the emotions become confused if you know what I mean. It's the old missing friends and family that is getting us thinking.
  3. We are still making our minds up whether to make the trip over and if we can afford it!! Things I won't leave behind are my Hi-fi, computer and guitars....
  4. That's what I planned to do with our spare one. It makes a perfect beer fridge......
  5.:laugh: It's all these little things that you start wondering about........
  6. Hello, Now this might sound a bit strange, but it has got me wondering whether I need to sell my 6 month old iMac and Laptop. I am after some advice on the whether I can bring them to Australia. I have been reading an informative guide about Australia supplied by one of the removal companies. It suggests that it is necessary to check your computers are legal and compliant with the ACA, also known as ACMA - all to do with communications standards, otherwise it is illegal to connect them. Any ideas? Thanks.
  7. Thanks for your post. It's good to hear someone who is there give us useful info.
  8. Hi, some of the relocation costs are covered. Looking at Environmental sector jobs. It doesn't help with having a house to sell and with the market being so damn poor at the mo. If we rent it not sure that will cover the mortgage even :frown: It could all move quite quickly once I accept a position
  9. Thanks to the OP. We are in a similar dilemma. Thinking about selling in the UK and buying a smaller place to rent out with no emotional attachment (so won't be as bothered if it gets worn in a little by rental), but keep thinking if we move to Australia would prefer to buy. Decisions, decisions.......
  10. Hee Hee. Thats what we thought would happen - eventually. They were talking about taking a cruise over to see us - but that would be mega money and a lot of time!!. Maybe that would persuade them, they could have 10x more visits for the same money and as they are retired, there is no problem on length of stay.
  11. Thanks fiona1975. All our socialising is pretty much together, usually at friends houses these days as most of them have children. The whole subject did not go down great at first with some family members, but others were very positive. Some of them have never been on a plane before, and probably never will so would not see them for a while, and others have been excited about the prospect of coming over to see us
  12. Thanks. We do not have kids, we have some redundancy money/savings, and expect to ship most of our personal gear if we do go for it. The adventure part is what my wife keeps talking about. We both are really excited about exploring at weekends. The decision would be so much easier if there wasn't the emotional part involved with family and friends!!
  13. Hello all, This is my first post but I have been a lurker on here for a while. There is just so much great/useful info. Thanks. Our situation is probably similar to a lot of other previous posters but here goes. Neither of us have been to Australia before, but after a period of unemployment for myself in the UK (and still looking) we decided to enquire about the 'big move'. After approaching several companies and having interviews I may be in a position to have offers on the table. The decision is two-fold: 1. Stay here and take any job for now and hope things pick up (ahem) or move for a new opportunity to Australia (untested) 2. Assuming move to Australia, Brisbane or Perth? As others before have probably gone through the whole range of emotions, doubts, elation, ups and downs, just after some advice on what to do next. Help.....:arghh:
