  2. Ours was all done online... requested the viewing online. Was then sent the application form to fill in - in advance. Once we had attended the viewing we were provided with a reference number which we had to put on the application to be able to submit it. One week later the place was ours. Moving back pregnant

This has happened in some hospitals for years. When my wife went for her scan we were sent off into a little room and had to provide a copy of her passport and visa, and proof of how long she had lived in the U.K. before they would progress. Then 6 months later she gave birth - hours after the birth they came around again to get proof of her right to free treatment. 2 weeks later back in the same hospital as my daughter had a bloody infection - and again the same questions. Moving to Melbourne

If it hasn't already been said then Point Cook - 20km from the city, 45 minutes on the train. I find it much better value for money than the east, and really nice too. Great facilities, great infrastructure, and for that money you'll get a decent home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    how to choose?

As others have said... continue to rent, but buy an investment property. It gives you that financial security without having to move a million miles away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cost of migration

I reckon I spent £10k on the process (visas, shipping and flights) And then another £10k between landing and getting my first pay check. And it only took me a month to find work - (I actually turned one job down 3 days after landing which I somewhat regret... However that's another story)... But.. If I hadn't found work within a month, we would have needed to spend a lot more. Month to month living for the 3 of us... The essentials .. IE Rent, gas, elec, water, food probably comes at around $4000 per month in Melbourne. So if you factor in potentially not working for 6 months I reckon you'd want $25k - $30k just to cover living costs for that period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gas / Electricity usage and cost? SHOCK BILL!

I phoned them today as Momentum were offering a deal at nearly 35% less than Origin... The guy on the phone just told me to switch and save money lol. Not interested in matching it. Also I noticed a hissing noise at the gas meter - so the gas guys are on the way to check it for leaks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gas / Electricity usage and cost? SHOCK BILL!

Yeah, and the house is terribly insulated - if this is the norm for this kind of house we will definitely take it into account when building / buying. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gas / Electricity usage and cost? SHOCK BILL!

They are readings and I have checked the meter and it's gone up at a similar rate since the bill date. I will turn everything off and see if the meter still ticks over. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Since living here (in Melbourne) we have received 2 extortionate gas bills, and one extortionate electricity bill. I'm trying to understand - is gas just bloody expensive here, are we getting ripped off, or do I need to check for a gas leak [emoji848] After getting a $160 gas bill for a 15 day period I switched suppliers. My final bill with the original supplier was for $577! For a period during which our heating was broke to 2 weeks so therefore barely any consumption. After I complained they credited both these bills in full which was a result but I assumed I had been massively overcharged. So I switched to Origin. First bill comes in at $443 ($356 if I pay on time). And that's only for a 22 day period. So, is this normal? We only use the heating in evening and early morning (ducted heating, fairly large 2 storey house). Thanks. It's driving me mad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
