  1. Hi All, Landed in Perth a week ago, seeking work as a 457 Sponsored employee in the building/manufacturing industries. Tonnes of exp at home- but here that really does not seem to count for alot. I didnt think it would be a problem, but all of a sudden when I get here, I see the way they build is different, and the materials and specifications and regs are different, so ya, WA exp does make a huge difference. I've been lucky enough to be in negotiations with a company here at the moment. But the job they are offering is not the one that I went to them about. They said that they have done 457 Visas for people in the past and that they can work around it. Any one heard of this, or is this even a problem at all? I am just worried as my familys future hangs in the balance of this JOb going right for me, and the 457 route is the only way we see it working. I would like to know the ins & outs of it before I agree any thing with the new employer and start the 457 sponsorship process with them. While I'm here - Spoke to a few Recruitment Agencies about 457 visa jobs. Recruitment Agents here are like Car sales men, himming and hawing and trying to broker the best deal, (for them). So far any I have met have met me in pairs like Good Cop/Bad cop and have stories and stories and would have you settle for the least amount going.... hard to gauge them. Any one advise on this? Waiting here in Perth for another week just, so would like to get this clarified and perhaps get some advice and possible well armed questions to go back to employer about before I leave. Thanks D
  2. HI All, Following this thread with caution. Not sure what to believe and advice here appears to depend on different peoples circumstances in different areas, and in different sectors. 1 Simple question for you, perhaps some one here is qualified to answer it for us> OH is a Qualified QS, and exp in Timber Frame Modular Design & Site Management, and searching for work in Perth currently. Q- What are construction professionals prospects like in Perth at the moment, (not civils, or mining related) for domestic house building staff with experience? Hard to know as it appears to be that the only jobs are in mining, or filling the civil engineering vacancies left by the Perth lads that went North. If any one reading this thread actually works in the construction industry in Perth area, could you reply with an honest opinion, as we are about to make the biggest family move of our lives, and we really need it to be to the right location and for a better way of life. Thank you. DV.
  3. Hi FearFactory, Sorry to hear your having so much trouble. I too have just turned 34, married with 2 kids, and a graphic designer for 12 years. Myself and DH have been hit with one wall after the other regards Visa's. DH 15 years experience in his field of work, but as he has been doing another occupation for the past year and a half, his 15 yrs is considered void... that, and originally it was only a Diploma he studied! Then when I enquired about being the applicant, my skills are only sought after in Capital Territorty, and then they revoked that as I too only had Diploma rather than Degree.... So our only option to us at the moment is hoping to get a 457 sponsorship visa. Such a waste of time and money. We are applying and waiting. DH hopes to take a trip over and hopefully 457 sponsor that way... Believe DH has a better chance than me tbh. Im applying all the time with 2 or 3 responses, But have read on PIO and Perthpoms that its difficult in our field too gain employment in Perth... I wish you the best, and hope you have some good news soon, as you have put so much time and money into it so far... Dee x
  4. Hi Phill3parts, Im a qualified Graphic Designer for 11 years now. We (myself, DH and 2 boys) are hoping to somehow get to Perth, but hit with one wall after another. We're after PR visa's but hit with the location, my occupation is on SOL list for Sydney and Canberra from what I can remember and we're looking to go to Perth. My DH is in timber frame construction and project management in the past and hit with other walls, as he has been working in different sector... Which leave us looking for the jobs first and then getting the 457 visa (would personally prefer PR Visa) oh I could go on... There is a fair few positions available on seek.com.au for graphic designers, alot part time and freelance from what I can remember. Most of my experience is within newspaper production and finding something similar in Perth is proving difficult. I have dabbled only a little in Web design, but from researching job site in Australia, or even Ireland and UK, I think i need to get the finger out and get some web design experience and courses together and update myself. Sorry a little longwinded.... Hope you find something to get you out there and best of luck in your search... Vindee2011
  5. Hi everyone, thanks to all who answered any of my questions. We are at the moment waiting to see agent(s), which is proving to be a chore in itself. Hopefully within the next week we will get the ball rolling. We have decided to go with an agent, as like it has been said before the new rules and regulations could prove to be tricky, and if we screwed up it would turn out more costly. We are going to a expo in the beginning if we're still in limbo, hoping that will shed some more light on all of this for us. We're just dying to get started... Its all goin to cost a fortune, where the funds are going to appear is anyones guess, but we're doin a bit so saving is going to be the long process. Thanks Dx
  6. Thanks Ditch, Our quotes were a little higher, then again... for myself, DH and 2 kids. Didnt realise that might include Medicals etc. I persume those figures are for the cost all-in??? Visa, Assessor, the whole process, and medicals etc. Is the ielts exam, extra??? We have been trying to get an assessor/advisor (Liz O'Hagan), but she is on ML, and her staff are up to their eyes and referred us onto John (in England), hoping to hear back from him soon, which we are unsure of using just yet...It sure is a costly process, how we're goin to pay for it all is another thing... Im sure (in drib & drabs) we'll get it together, eventually. Congrats btw on getting your Visa, when are ye all goin over? Thanks also to Jonny Andy, 24 months!!! Christ, hoping we wont have the same wait. Don't think we can tolerate another 2 years of getting shaffted, and just supposed to except it... Also ye guys might share ye info regards schooling for ye're children. Public or private, cost either way? Also telling them about the big move, and their reaction about leaving... my younger (almost 3 year old) son wont know any difference as such, but I tormenting myself over my almost 6 year old boy... Thanks for the info, much appreciated Dee
  7. Thank guys, will try Liz OHagan again tomorrow. Do ye mind me asking how much your visa's cost and if I apply for the 176 visa is there a long processing time, Visa First say over a year! And the costs they quoted us were... alot. Didnt expect it to be so much... :swoon: Apologies, the most I read up on all this, the more confused I get. Plus a 12 hour shift doesn't help, need sleep. Tomorrow another day. zzzzzzzzz
  8. Definately one of my cons about ours move to Perth is the spiders. I have a pathetic fear of spiders... big small, even dead ones!!! My friend lives in butler and says you dont worry after a while but I'm not convinced. She was bitten, but dont think it was a red back, think she said a white tailed something??? Could be wrong. Are they around your homes though, do they come into house/car etc I know I will never venture into the shed or garage!!! I worry about the kids too, know one would scarper but my little would definately bend to his hunkers and have a look!!! What do i do, keep telling myself there should be no fear, get over it. If bitten, just get sorted quick...
  9. Thanks Sinead & Karen, Vista First was another we were looking at alright. Thanks Karen for that number, will give them a buzz. Would you recommend them / would you say they are worth the money? Yes, we'd also like a quick application process and dont mind using the advisor to ensure a speedy timeframe. We've only found a couple of these assossors though; are there any directory listing of them in Ireland that we could choose from do you know? You are doing an ielts exam - whats that? so much to learn about how to get there. I dont suppose any one has a list of steps to take, what to do, in what order and what documents that are needed? We would settle for the 457 visa by DH and family travel on that, (cause its seems quick) but hear that the full 176 visa can be got in short time frame (3 mths?). Thanks for the help, its much appreciated.
  10. Hi everyone. A newbie here, hoping to join ye. Myself and DH and 2 young boys hoping to make the big move to Perth. Only starting process at the moment. The whole visa applications (lodging & granting) seems to be getting quicker, am I right? We are hoping to get over in the new year of 2012, as kids start school term in February in Perth. We rather, and like, the North suburbs of Perth, have friends in Butler and a cousin in the city, and Im sure alot others we would actually know over there. We like Joondalup, Currambine, Quinns etc. Been trying to contact Liz O'Hagan, but read in different forums she might be off on maternity leave. Any other assessors recommended here? Would it be possible to do the process ourselves? Or would that be delaying it up?
