  1. Hi Andy, just want to let you know that trade work is highly regulated in oz and you will need a licence for each specific trade although you can work under supervision of licence holders. My husband was in a similar position to you when we came to Sydney 4 years ago - happy to help if you want to pm.
  2. Hi, just wanted to update you all regarding remortgaging UK property whilst on PR visa in Australia - it is not easy but it can be done! Finally after 8 months of investigating, being knocked back and a lengthy and costly application (think around 5 k in total fees) - we have been offered a mortgage!! For us it will be worth it but obviously not an easy process. Happy to give further info if any wants to pm me. Just wanted to reassure you that it is not impossible .... No false declarations made and did not have to leave the country either
  3. Hi drewby, i too am experiencing problems trying to find a re mortgage with sensible rates for a uk property. I would like to release some equity to buy here in oz. there does appear to be some rule or law which makes the process difficult (hence more expensive), but am struggling to get a definitive answer as to what this is. Have you managed to find any meaningful advice, or found a suitable broker to help you out? any advice appreciated, thanks
  4. hello, we have shipped our lovely black leather sofas here and now they don't fit in to our flat! We are asking $400 ono for both - one two seater and one 3 seater, great condition. Come from smoke free and pet free home. Message me if you want photos or further details, measurements etc. Thanks
  5. Hello! I might be a bit late for your meet up but wanted to say hi as I am also a very young at heart 45 year old recently moved to Sydney. It's been almost a month since we got here and I don't know many people either ...... yet. Would definitely be up for a drink and a chat sometime. xx
  6. Hi, we have just shipped our container using Letton Percival and they provided the most competetive quote for us and they were nice to deal with. We don't have experience of any claims though as stuff not actually shipped yet - maybe someone else knows about this....? Hope that helps.
  7. Hi, I am about to put a small old 2stroke outboard in my container, but have just thought that importing 2stroke engines may be against current regulations? It may only be illegal to import in order to sell? Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Can't find any info on line so far. Many thanks,
  8. Hi all, It's good to catch up and hear how others are doing. We got our visa last august which was so much quicker than we had anticipated so we have had to get organised much quicker than planned (and save as much money as possible of course) - but it seems to be coming together at last - hurray! Flights booked to Sydney for 3rd August. AHPRA registration sorted - neither of us have jobs to go to but will look when we get there. Anyone else going to Sydney? We are looking to rent around Mosman area - if anyone has any experience/advice on how to sell ourselves as good tenants that would be good to hear. We are really excited but also getting that looking over a precipice feeling sometimes - guess that is normal. It's great to hear that others are doing well and making friends, getting jobs etc. I wish you all the best of luck!
  9. Hi everyone I was worried as we seemed to be waiting longer then others but..................we have now been assigned a case officer!!! 175 application lodged on 9th May and case officer on 31st July which makes it about 12 weeks so it does look as though they are speeding things up which is good news for all.
  10. Murta we have completed and uploaded all the paperwork required apart from these forms and our photos. I kind of assumed that they would ask for other stuff as required - but am concerned that others seem to be getting such a quick response. I'm a nurse and have the skills assessment complete and the IELTS so I thought we would might priority processing. It all seems a bit random!
  11. Hi everyone, we lodged our 175 application on 9th May and haven't heard anything other than the automated repsonse confirming application received. This does request the additional forms within 28 days which i have not done - can anyone reassure me that this is ok? Do we need to fill out form 80 and 1221 before a case officer is assigned? Would a case officer not request them as required? I would hate to prolong the process in any way!:arghh: Any reassurance or advice gratefully received. thanks
  12. Thanks Jamie, I was put off by a conversation I had with an agency who said they had absolutely no trouble recruiting to these posts which was why they would not be able to provide any sponsorship - but that is only one opinion. I will probably continue with my 175 application and consider other options if that fails. It would be great to get help with relocation costs tho!
  13. Thanks Sara - just had a look and seen a job that would be ideal so i guess they are out there after all! Now all I need is the visa to get there - am hoping to get a 175 so need to get my skates on as soon as I get the letter of determination from anmac - don't want to get caught up in all the changes this summer as it might never happen then..................
  14. That's right - I've been lead to believe that occupational health doesn't really exist in the same format as in the UK so maybe return to work co-ordinator or case manager might be the best bet with looking for work that I can do.
