  1. Evening Joe, how are you? I arrived in Melbourne around 3 months ago and also looking to meet up with people for beers... Be good to hear back from you Mark
  2. Hi all I am also moving across to Melbourne. Will be moving at the beginning of June... Can't wait! mark
  3. How simple is this working out!? Offered a job two years ago & turned it down... Company got back in touch two months ago & this time I accepted. 457 Visa took 3 weeks and now it's all systems go! I am amazed and now getting nervous... Am 35, single and will be looking for new mates for coffee / beer / wine / dinner / cinema etc when I move across from the beginning of June.. Would be great to hear from you! Mark
  4. Hi, I was sponsored by my company in Aus, submitted all docs to the lawyers - needed a chest xray as was living in Bangladesh at the time - had to wait max 3 weeks, and main delay was me not submitting my chest Xray quickly - as the day after I did that everything as approved. Not sure if this helps? Mark
  5. how long roughly does 457 take from end to end process?
  6. Where are you heading to in Aus? My salary was including Super so I needed to take it off for my take home salary.
  7. Hey Ben How are you? I'm moving across end April. Whereabouts are you going to be? Mark
  8. Hi Claire, Sorry completely missed you'd replied. Yes I am moving across... had the job interview yesterday and was offered a role. Im from the UK (Brighton) originally, but currently living in Dhaka, Bangladesh at the moment for work. I'm hopefully moving across end April. I really can't wait - but like you said I guess it can be lonely to start with. Have you got much planned this weekend? M
  9. It's absolute chaos - but way I would describe it is "organised chaos".... Anyway, back to moving to Oz.... Are you from the UK originally?
  10. Hi Claire, How's things? I might be moving across to Melbourne at some point in next few months. What made you go across? Do you have a job? M
  11. Hi, Plan is Melbourne, yes... Bangladesh isn't as bad as everyone thinks... Although when I looked to move here, there was an article in a paper in the UK - giving top ten best/worst cities to live in - Melbourne was the best, Dhaka was the worst...
  12. Hi all, A couple of years back I joined this site as I thought me and my partner would be moving over to Melbourne. Partner backed out at last minute... so stayed in UK. We then split up! I am now over in Bangladesh on a secondment with my UK employer, and guess what - the retailer in Melbourne has been back in touch and want to do a final skype interview with me on Friday!! Really happy about this! But am literally starting from scratch as far as research is concerned. ANY advice, websites, montly cost breakdowns woudl be really helpful - or even just a friendly chat to welcome me back to the site / possible a move to Melbourne. Looking forward to hearing from you! Mark
  13. Hi Tom, How are you? Just came cross your post and thought I'd start the replies. I can't give you specific advise about sponsorship, HR etc but I am also looking to move across to Melbourne. I've attempted to be quite logical about the move. Lists of pros and cons about staying in the UK, more that than actually Australia, as have never been. I then just started working out take home salary vs. expenses and wanted to see if I actually would be 'better off' financially by going across. From a personal perspective, would you be going across with anyone? Partner etc? Ill go into more details about me and my possible move if the conversation continues as don't won't to bore you with it now! What made you think about going to Aus in the first place other than any other country/staying in the UK. Anyway, be good to hear back from you Mark
  14. Hi Mark, I might be going over too - it's a real minefield though... so much info to find out! THis forum is pretty good though ALthough I've still got loads of questions... I'm off to Melbourne if I go... Be good to hear back from you Mark
  15. Hi all, Just wondering how much i should budget for my monthly / weekly shop in Melbourne? I am single and looking to move to Melbourne on my own. I don't eat extravagantly, but do enjoy wine and beer! is $450 enough?too much? Mark
