With rego as Jnmac says you have to pay yearly - and on top of that when you buy a car you have to pay the goverment a percentage - depending on what the cost of the car is too - so the more you pay for a car the more you pay the government - in QLD when you buy a car you need a road worthy certificate so try n buy one with it - if not don;t buy as when you take it for Qld version of the MOT it might fail and leave you more out of pocket Oh yeah and with your driving licence - Before you move change the address on it to a family members address as when you get an Aus one you also get to keep your Uk one - and the licences last from 1 yr to 5 yrs which you have to pay for as well - $49 for 1 year $69 for 2 years and so on - so factor that into your price costing too Hope this helps

Just thought i would say hi - enjoying your posts - i moved here 2 weeks ago arrived 11/11/11 - living in wooloowin/Lutwyche - near the good guys shop am loving it just bought us a car - taking delivery of it tomorrow - so can get around a bit more and to the all important job interview;s - have been job hunting hard but not getting very far yet - have on on tuesday . Chermisde Westfields is amazing i loved it there - compared to the westfield in london which is totaly crap - I am landing in brisse next week on thu and moving to wooloowin - not far from kedron at all . and am so looking forward to house hunting hope you enjoy it out there and good luck on the house search

Well it is getting a bit exciting and scary now - Had my last day in work on Friday , Move out of our flat this Friday to go back to my folks in South Wales for 8 days then to Northampton for 2 and then back to London for 2 and then fly to Brissie

we fly nov 10th from heathrow - to brisbane and paid £606 each + £60 for preferance seats by exit doors as i am 6ft 3 so need the leg room so we were well chuffed - this was even cheaper than the free tickets we won with virgin atlantic for a return flight paying taxes only -

Not sure what doing for work as of yet - going to hit the job hunting hard when we get there - have been emailing a few places to line up interviews. Got a perm residency visa as my partner is aussie - going to live with the inlaws for the first year - we got a good deposit for a house already - just need to get work to make the repayments - so hence the yr with the in-laws (rent free) so we can save more money for buying house - will be living in wooloowin 4030 so not to far from the cbd and westfields in chermside

Well i did live in Cardiff a long time ago - but was raised in carmarthenshire and now live in London, but Land in Brisbane in 36 days time It is so exciting

We had same probs - when searching for flights a travel agent told me about the 40kg luggage - so i phone singapore airlines cust serv and they said yes - so i booked then i emailed them to up my luggage allowance , and got the email saying that i had the wrong visa for the allowance So i caused a stink and even tho my partner is australian they have granted both of us 30kg luggage each so in a way i got my 40 and partner got 20 kg worth fighting for it -

Well time is going fast - given notice on flat and new tennant found . 17 more shifts in work , car sold , 99% of clothes shipped out to brisbane - Really can not wait to go now, but start my new life on 11/11/11 at 8pm

Well my flights are now booked for the 10th November with singapore airlines. 1030 am flight, so 1st day of new life in Brisbane will be 11/11/11 . Am so excited

Well we just booked our flights with Singapore airlines - flying out of Heathrow on the 10th November ( 14 weeks away) i am so excited - especially as i am the one emigrating i get double baggage at no extra cost so i get 40 kgs and my other half only gets 20 kgs - somehow i don;t think I will win with what goes in my bag lol
