    Visa Medical

I'm not sure why you feel it necessary to be rude, you clearly have no direct experience or facts to share only speculation. If I I was "clearly going to anyway" I would not have asked this question. The particular partner skills assessment actually has a relatively short turn around time if we decided to go ahead with it (hence 80 or 85 points) thus is irrelevant. Since within Australia the medical assessment process is now 100% electronic there is new guidance about completing the medical in advance of lodging your application. If we have already undertaken the medicals then the processing of the application is simpler and more complete from the start, which is in line with advice given by a migration agent to a friend who has been through the process recently. We have already completed the electronic medical questionnaires and have referrals to attend medicals (which would be valid for 12 months). I just would like to know if short-term injury/condition such as this would be a consideration during a visa medical from someone who is able to provide any experience they have or actual facts they could share please.

Thanks Rupert, I appreciate your advice. I have actually reduced some of the experience to be on the cautious side and have substantial evidence for what I intend to claim so this won't be a problem. Agreed, we probably won't do the partner assessment as 80 points is plenty. We actually have other reasons for wanting to complete our PR as soon as possible, hence the question as to whether the injury would preclude us from undertaking the medical. Does anyone know whether it would?

Thanks Verystormy, it's a good warning but I have been through the points criteria several times to be sure and have already got all the evidence ready to go except for the medicals: Age - 30 points IELTS Superior English Score 9 - 20 points Overseas Employment for at least 5 years - 10 points Australian Employment 1 Year - 5 points Education - Bachelor Degree - 15 points and if my husband gets his skills assessed again (since his has run out now) then partner skills - 5 points.

Hi Rupert, thanks for the reply. My plan is to have completed the Medical ready to lodge my application immediately after an invitation is received. Since the medical is valid for 12 months and I will have 80-85 points when I lodge, based on my recent experience of colleagues lodgements, (this may be optimistic), but I'm not anticipating a very long wait between EOI and invitation.

    Visa Medical

Hi All, My husband and I have been in Aus for 2+ years on a 457 visa and now have all our documentation ready to lodge for a 189 visa -except for the Medical examination. Unfortunately my husband recently had a cycling accident and broke his hip. This resulted in surgery with three screws to hold him together. He's non-weight-bearing still for the next 6 weeks and as a result of the injury/surgery he has developed blood clots in his lungs and is currently on a Warfarin treatment plan for the next 12 weeks. My question is whether we can still have our Medical examinations, or whether the above would count against us and we should wait until he is 100% again? Anyone have any experience or advice they can share? Thanks!
  6. Hi Guys, I recently moved to Perth, leaving my fiance back in the UK with all our furniture to pack up and send. I am lucky that I had friends to stay with when I arrived, but it took me a while to decide where I wanted to live and what kind of rental. I also work in South Perth, and although I originally thought I wanted to be NOR and near the beach, I have actually just rented a property in a nice suburb 15 minutes drive from South Perth (compromised on the beach by getting one with a pool!) The majority of landlords will want at least 6 months if not 12 -that's that first thing I found, and why I took time to decide where I wanted to rent. I opted for a rental that was unfurnished, as there is a lot more to choose from. As there is an Ikea in Perth I have just bought a sofa, a sofa bed, a bed, 2 coffee tables, 2 bedside tables, various kitchen goods etc, and the whole lot was less than $800. You can get all the basic essentials until your furniture arrives very cheaply, then if you don't want them sell them on Gumtree (very well used here) when your stuff arrives. You would give yourself more options and are more likely to find something pet friendly if you go for unfurnished. Your summary of the rental process is pretty accurate, I applied for 4 other properties before getting this one. I seemed to find more properties on http://www.realestate.com.au than on Domain. With regard to cars, I was fortunate that my company hired me a car for the first few weeks. I have now bought a new car on finance, but it will depend on your Visa as to what kind of finance you can get. Leasing is VERY expensive and restrictive. If there is anything else you want to know, just PM me and I'll be glad to help. I've spent a lot of time looking at, viewing, and researching suburbs, so if you want to know anything let me know. 7. Hi, When we came out here last year on our reccie we used http://www.rent-a-home.com.au Rosie
  8. Hi Guys, I have found a great property I fancy renting in Sorrento, but I wonder if anyone could give me an idea of the travel time in peak traffic to South Perth Esplanade? Would be arriving at work for about 8.30am. Thanks a lot! :cute:
  9. Hi Steph, I am loving it here so far. I am being sponsored by my company, so that has been a real help as they employed a migration agent to deal with 457 etc, which has left me only the living side of things to deal with. I am currently living SOR, as I am staying with the two friends I know here! I have spent endless hours driving around different suburbs trying to decide where to live. I have decided however that one of the main draws to Aus is the outdoor and beach lifestyle, so I want to live a lot closer to a good beach like Cottesloe or Scarborough. I have a few good tips for cheap places to buy food etc. so can let you know those when you get here. The main thing is to try not to convert everything to £s, but instead look at things in relation to your earnings and the cost of other things here. If there's anything in particular you want to know, feel free to message me! Rosie :cute:
  10. Hi, I arrived three weeks ago and would love to meet up for drinks etc if you fancy it? I am currently staying with the 2 friends I know in Perth, and have already got some good tips for where to go for cheap food etc. Rosie :-)
  11. Hi guys, I am already in Perth, arrived about 3 weeks ago. If you fancy meeting up for coffee/drink when you arrive, or just want some advice, please get in touch. Rosie :-)
  12. Hi Guys, I am currently here on my own until my fiance can get our stuff in the UK sorted. But we are both 29 and would love to meet some other young people who like to meet up for dinner and stuff. Rosie
  13. Hi, I am moving over on the 26th July, so have applied for a Westpac account today. There is a branch in the same building as my new office in Perth, so it was the obvious choice for me. I honestly couldn't see much difference between any of the banks really. I applied online at lunchtime and by 4pm I had a call from the London branch to assist me with the set up. As I was at work I couldn't speak to them, but have arranged a call-back tomorrow lunchtime -Will let you know how that goes. It seems you can actually activate the account before leaving Uk too (see below) The representatie sent me the following email: "Welcome to Westpac and thanks for choosing us to look after all of your Australian banking needs. We recently received your online application and you will receive your account details shortly. Myself and the team here at the London office would like to offer our services to you in an effort to make your move as smooth and as hassle free as possible. Should you have any queries before your departure about your new accounts, or anything banking related for that matter, then we would love to hear from you. Your account can be completely activated before you arrive in Australia, enabling you to transact on your account and use internet banking - however this requires you to be properly identified first. You may do so in the following ways: - Upon your arrival in Australia, all you will need to do is go into your local branch with your passport. - If you would like to open and activate your account before your departure, there are two options for doing this: (a) you can arrange an appointment to come into our London office; or (b) a Certified Copy Certificate can be completed by your local Bank and returned to us (via post) with copies of your ID. Please find attached, a copy of the Certified Copy Certificate that your local Bank would need to complete. 1. Please have pages 1 and 2 of this form completed by a category 16 representative from your local Bank (refer page 3 of form for details). Please note that a separate form is required for each account holder. Part A to be completed by the account holder and Part B to be completed by the employee at your bank who certifies your identification documents. 2. Photocopies of two forms of ID (minimum 1 Primary) - signed and bank stamped by your Bank (i.e. passport & drivers licence). Please note, second form of ID must show proof of your current residential address. If a drivers licence is not available, we can also accept a recent utilities bill (i.e. council tax, water, electric or gas only). 3. Ensure checklist on the top of page 3 is completed before leaving your bank. In addition, if you have applied for the account online, over the telephone or with a Visa Agent you will need to complete and return the attached account application form (via post) so that we can keep a separate copy of your signature. Please note, your account cannot be activated until we have also received a signed application form from you. It might also be helpful to let you know that we work very closely with a foreign exchange specialist called HiFX. The service that HiFX offer is there to ensure you get the best possible exchange rate when sending your money to Australia. If you would like to speak to HiFX directly, they can also be reached by clicking here, calling 0845 370 5289, or e-mailing them on: westpacbank@hifx.co.uk. We look forward to hearing from you, and wish you all the best for your new life Down Under. "
