    Tea bags!

Tetley for us - My OH idn't even drink tea in the UK but loves his cuppa of an evening these days - god that makes us sound old ;-D
  3. I think what has been said is right - friendships develop over time and they cannot be rushed or sort. When we first decided to emigrate our intention was to move to Rockingham/Safety Bay and have a life by the sea. I reality the work my OH does is far more cental and NOR so we have ended up living in Bayswater a city suburb very quiet and so far from what I seen . Now my husband has started work and we wait for the house we will be moving into to be ready I have a sudden feeling of loneliness and wonder if I will be able to find people other then my children for company. Things are not helped with staying somewhere we cannot call a home. I don't feel the need to concentrate on Brits friendships, and to be honest all the ones I have been in contact with are probably living to far away from us for regular meet ups. Its just a case of getting out there, school, the library, toddler groups and hopefully even some adult clubs are going to be the start of things and see where things develop. Back in England I could count my real true friends on one hand and my OH the same, we are a very tight little family, one of the reasons making the move over here easier. I can strike up the conversation easily enough, but at what point do you say to someone you've met in the playgroup, do you want my number? ;-) Give it time it will happen. I hope ...Est :-)
  4. We had our leaving "do" last night and said goodbye to folks we probably won't seen again. Seem to be either out for lunch or dinner for the next two weeks now - we are going to be broke by the 27th!!! :-D Organised a hire van to farm out all our furniture to unsuspecting family n friends ;-) Decided everthing else is going to charity shop on friday now to begin thinking of actually starting to pack .... 14 days to go - whoop whoop :-D
  5. Let my son skive off school so we could spend the day with his nanna - well there not much tim left now so all moments are precious :-)
  6. Hi Peach I have nothing to add as still in the Uk for the next 6 weeks but just wanted to say fab thread :-))))))) Est
  7. Nothing much today. Saw an old friend for lunch, probably for the last time before we fly next month (i can't help it I love saying that :biglaugh:) and of course watched WDU, shame it was NZ but they were a nice family :-) Chandi1 - good luck with your daughters tests but I'm sure it will be just procedure n won't impact on anything Est
  8. I loved your last post re quitting your job and making your validating trip permenant - fantastic good your you guys. We have car boots sales around here running Saturdays and Sundays at the moment, must be to shift all those unwanted christmas pressies!!! not sure what they are like yet though and we are in Shrewsbury, Shropshire so a bit of a long way to come from Somerset  Est
  9. Hi Sherbet - I'm sorry you had such an emotional day yesterday it is tough. I saw my mum yesterday and you could tell she's been crying even before we arrived. Whatever the subject in a conversation now comes around to us leaving and how much she will miss the children - it is so heart breaking, but she supports the move and we have to give it a go otherwise we may always regret it. We've got just over 6 weeks to go now and like you have been organising nights out and a leaving party - suddenly the weeks are full of visits to family and friends and time seems so short now. On the plus side my son who is four crept into our bed this morning and we just chatted about the flight to Oz and what we'll do when we arrive which was so nice :-D
  10. Ditto that - car boot sales every week now until all the stuff has gone - or else its to the tip we go ...
  11. Fingers crossed for a quick buyer for you Est
  12. Jem I'm soooo glad you have made such a fantastic recovery from such a dreadful illness. I wish you a full and speedy recovery and the best in the future for you and the family whatever you decide to do :wubclub: Take care Est
  13. Result!!!! We have just sold a load of our house contents to the new owners - that a few less bit to have to try and get rid of and a few more $$$ for the pot  Thats what I've done today  Est
  14. Yes we noticed that the poms out numbered the Aussies there - we loved Freemantle but not sure if we could afford it up there - we spent alot of time travelling up the Freemantle while we were there and our son loved the prison (we have to visit twice). Still as you say R & SB are nice areas and a good place to start plus it is familar to us. So pleased you guys are loving the new life so much Est
  15. watched "Wanted Down Under" ....:GEEK: does that class as research??? Est
  16. Get well soon - not a good way to start the New Year :-( Hope to see you back on the forums with your excellent advice and support Est xxx
  17. Fab Thread :-) This weekend we cleared out all the c**p under the bed and threw stacks away. We cleared more out of the loft and ... threw stacks away. We filled the car boot with loads of other stuff we have managed to palm of to unsuspecting relatives to be distributed this week ;-) We did loads of research on areas to live when we arrive this morning which was great fun thanks to google maps. I chased up the hospital for notes etc to take with me, and Hubby should have handed in his notice by now Not bad work :-)
  18. Hi Alaska Thanks for your post. I have had a fantastic response from the MS WA society who, for an annual membership of $20 provide support and access to allsorts of therapies a nd support groups. I have had some excellent advice already and will be seen by an MS nurse on my arrival to the WA next month - this has put my mind at rest. For anyone else in the future in the same position please go to their website http://www.mswa.org.au/ and email them - I received excellent advice within a couple of days. Est
  19. Sean - Thanks for advice Good Luck with the weeding - I've heard of Byron Bay and I bet it will be a wonderful day for you guys. Can wait to get in that heat such a releif from the cold wind blowing here at the mo :-) Here's to the good life and wishing you a wonderful new year Est
  20. Thanks Sean - We were having a look on there last night and found plenty of homes that would do us - like you say I'm sure we will be find. If you don't mind my asking which areas are the ones to avoid? We are planning Rockingham / Safety Bay area Cheers Est
  21. Glad your feeling so settled there and seriously good luck starting the new job :-) We can't wait to join the poms over there - only 7 more week to go. Like you we have no problem with the UK but when we visited OZ last year we just felt so happy and and home (where ever we were - but Perth esp!) I just hope we feel the same next month - the only worry we have is securing a long term let within 3 weeks but hey you got to worry about somrthing :-) Happy New Year Est
  22. I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with an issue we have. We are due to arrive in Perth at the end of February and are trying to find out how much it is likely to cost us in medical and medication fees for my MS. I'm currently only taking Gabapentin for the nerve pain - but have been advised by Medicare that this drug is not on the PBS for the treatment of MS and that I will have to pay pharmacy rates on any pxs (£35 per 100) which will soon mount up as I'm on 9 a day at the mo. I've been looking into how MS is treated in Oz and how this pain is managed - but am starting to get very considered about the cost of appointments and medications. If you have any experiences you are prepared to share with me I would be very happy to receive a PM from you Many Thanks Est
  23. Happy New year to everyone Looks like we've all been a bit quiet on here of late :-) I can't believe we only have just over 7 week to go before our move - its amazing how much stuff you realise you've got until you start trying to get rid of it!!! Will definately check our ur Blog Lucy I'm sure it will be useful to us all yet to arrive :-) Est
  24. When we were over in Oz last year I was shown to clean a hot BBQ with basic salt and water and a scrub with newspaper or kitchen towel which got any crusty old BBQ gleaming in no time :-) I also started cooking on public bbqs using tin foil as it meant very little cleaning and I got to eat when the food was still hot :-D
  25. We are moving to Perth in February and I've been looking at how much we can expect to furnish a home CHEAPLY when we arrive. I was happy with the results I'd found, it helps that IKEA is less then an hour away :-) I'll definately be looking to have a go a haggling (OH would probably die first before asking) to get prices down especially on furniture and electical goods. Do you ask IKEA for money off?
