  1. Hi everyone Just wondered if anyone can give us some advice on good bulk billing doctors around the toowong area. Myself & hubby have been in Australia on our 457 visa for 1 year now and i have just found out i am pregnant so would love some help & advice on good doctors that bulk bill please as we haven't used the healthcare system yet. Thanks
  2. Hi all I'm currently in Aus on a 457 visa. I want to apply for PR in the near future but dont know which one to choose. On the immi website, when I click on GSM - Independent visa options, then "in Australia" it comes up with visa 885. But I dont fit into any of the categories it stipulates. So the only other one is the 175 but that only comes up if I click "Outside Australia" which I'm not! So what do I do? Please help ( Thank you
  3. Ah ha! Think I have it. It's a 175 isnt it? A skilled independant visa. Wow, gotta through the whole process again! Applying for visas sucks! lol! Oh well, better make a start I suppose!
  4. Yes that is sad ( Although we knew that was the case. I just want to start getting things organised so we can start the process but dont know what visa it's going to be. I'm a mechanic so think my occupation is still on the list. I'll go and check now. Is it easier applying for a residence visa because we're in Australia already?
  5. Hi Guys As the title suggests. My partner and I had our 457 granted yesterday. Hapy days! Question is now, where do we go from here to get PR? The immigration website is sooo confusing! Is it a 175/176 visa? I got sponsored through my employer. Thank you!
  6. No. Not a chance in hell. Not for a mere mortal like me. His time is FAR too valuable to be spent doing that for one of his minions. It's pointless anyway, he doesn't understand how controlled the process is and would be annoyed at how easy it was and pointless his objections to it were. He'll NEVER back down now. And I swear, if one more thing crops up about this visa, he'll "march me out the door" anyway so......pointless. Cheers anyway guys. Nice venting about it! lol
  7. Your right, I will resent it forever. I'm SO bitter about it right now! But I'll get over it. Means to an end, means to an end, means to an end............And repeat.
  8. Guys, I've thought the same, believe me! lol! But.......I read, once the sponsorship is approved, I can find another job in the same occupation as the one I'm doing now and all I would need to do to change is to get my new employer to "nominate" me. That's easily done via the immi website and is only $80. Then the original 457 can continue. So do I bend over and take it (with lube) just now and get it approved, also meaning my fiancee could work or do I go through the whole process of doing a probationary period again meaning she cant work and I've got to support us both on my wage etc etc etc. I think the latter makes sense. I can look at my situation again in a month or two. He said he wants half the money up front then $200 a week out of my wages so gives me some breathing space. Still....... ( Thanks for your advice peeps
  9. I've already spoken to him about doing it myself. He agreed until I asked him for their sponsorship agreement number a couple of days ago. Then I think he thought I'd be coming back to him needing info all the time. Which I wont. But you cant tell him. He pulled rank on me today and said I'm not allowed. Full stop. Reeled off a load of guff about not wanting to expose the company to security risks and liabilities and fraudulent activities.......I couldn't believe my ears. Just shows how little he knows about the whole process. I went to see the HR manager about it. We scheduled a meeting but she phoned him in between our chat and the meeting and he went MENTAL, phoned my workshop controller who "advised" me "as a friend" that if I dont "wind my neck in" the boss was going to come down and march me out the door. So I never even got my meeting. I really dont understand the issue here. I think it might be fear on his side. He's only ever used this agent and thinks it gives him security although it makes no difference. But again, you cant tell him. He doesn't even understand that by doing what he's doing and charging me for the migration agent costs, that he's actually breaking the law and is in line for a £33k fine if they find out he's breaking his employers obligations agreement. My case is not complicated. I'm here on a 417 visa transfering myself and my fiancee (arrives next Wed) onto a 457. That's it. All evidence and documents are ready. Just waiting for her to get here. Urgh......depressed. So what shall I do? Feel like I'm in a really sticky situation. But I'm really angry he's bullying me to do it like this and then expecting me to pay!
  10. Hi guys What would you guys do if your employer wanted you to stay employed with them and sponsor you via a 457 but are making you pay the fees for an agent to process the visa for you? And I mean here, I'm not even getting the choice to do it myself online. Which would cost $385 The agent is charging £3000! And I'm being expected to pay. Advice please. Feel in a very vunerable position. Thanks
  11. Thanks man Thats what I thought. Nothing that wouldn't be any different no matter how I went about my sponsorship.
  12. Hey guys Just a quickie. Is an employer liable for anything whilst emloying you in Australia other than just providing you with a job? i.e If I defrauded the tax system, could they be fined? If I got sent to prison, could they be fined? etc etc Are they liable for my character sort of thing? This is going to sound like a strange question but this is some of the "examples" my employer was coming out with today to try and make me use a migration agent. Also said they do "background checks" to make sure I'm ok. Shouldn't they have done that three months ago BEFORE they mployed me? lol! Cheers
  13. I know alot more than I wrote in my first post. I was just getting some points clear that was all. The costs he is referring to are visa costs and agent costs. The company is already able to sponsor overseas workerss and they have nominated occupations which I fit into. How hard could the application actually be? I've got myself this far without any help. And what questions could they possibly ask me that I wouldn't know the answer to? If its going to save me 2k, I still think its worth a shot.
  14. Hi Guys I'm currently in Australia on a 417 visa. I have just finished my probation in a reputable garage in QLD and my employer says he will now sponsor me to stay as I'm getting on well and he wants to keep me. I take it this will be moving onto the 457? Anyway, we spoke this afternoon and he said he's going to use a migration agent and I'll have to pay the fee. Said it is about $3k. I was under the impression that upon sponsoring me, he would be held liable for costs to sponsor me? Would the migration agent be applying for a 457 on my behalf outright or do I have to go onto some sort of bridging visa? My current 417 still has about 9 months on it. Last question, if this is all the case, could I apply for the 457 visa myself online? I dont really have $3k but dont want to dispute thie fact that he should be liable anyway incase he changes his mind about employing me! Thanks for your help in advance. Paul
