  1. You've become very negative since you got back from the U.K Harpo
  2. I can't believe they'd pick Morrison over Turnbull, surely big Mal would be the best bet election wise.
  3. Could happen, I can't see any other way the libs will get back in.
  4. How would you feel if the Libs won next time but Malcolm was in charge?
  5. Mind you if you're expecting the other rabble to have a much different asylum policy, I think you are going to be disappointed.
  6. I would be amazed if they were re-elected, BUT only if there was a creditable alternative, which shouldn't be to difficult really.
  7. Interesting question! to be honest I can't answer it.
  8. Well if you we're a Tamil asylum seeker you'd have no choice one way or the other, however a least he was honest about his asylum policies and the people voted for him, so you could say in this instance the government is reflecting the will of the people.
  9. Not necessarily, my wife is Australian and she loves living in England, despite the winters.
  10. Well as part of the reason maybe, but the only reason seems a bit extreme, as for that nice Mr Abbott, what's not to like, OK you can't believe a word he says and he let's his religion influence the way he runs the county, but apart from that he's going well isn't he?
  11. You mad loony lefty, I'm with Mrs Harpo on this one
  12. Last Sunday, just outside Melbourne.
  13. Rent assistance is a very small amount though, something like $60 a week from memory, I wouldn't fancy trying to live on the pension and rent assistance.
  14. If you intend to retire in Australia this change won't make any difference. you only need 10 years residence to get the pension if you retire here, but don't forget it's means tested.
  15. Mishka Cat, don't panic yet, you say you worked for 7 years in the U.K, if that was before the social security agreement ended with the U.K in 2000 those 7 years might be able to be counted towards your Australian pension, have a word with Centrelink, also you might be eligible for some non contributory benefits in the U.K, housing allowance and so on, that would be worth checking out too. Good luck.
  16. It's going to put doctors in a terrible position, if a mother brings a sick child in but can't afford to pay, what is the doc supposed to do?
  17. They should, but they never do around here.
  18. probably the people who believed them when they said, we won't touch Medicare, or pensions, or education, or funding to the A.B.C and S.B.S, or impose new taxes, I can't imaging they'll make the same mistake again.
  19. Been pondering this myself, so far I've found: http://www.duinsure.com.au/sites/duinsureaus.nsf/PagesBySection/Misc_One-Way-Travel-Insurance

You are entitled to access the N.H.S, only thing is you might have to prove that you have returned to live permanently in the U.K, as Lynne says I'd take what you read on here with pinch of salt. http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/1087.aspx?categoryid=68&subcategoryid=162
  21. Hmm, Aussie slang might have changed a bit since 53, wait till Bobj comes along, he must have been in his 60s back in 53

    hi

In the spirit of P.I.O I feel I can tell you without any shadow of doubt that Melbourne is much better than Cairns, even though I've never actually lived in Cairns or even visited, but Melbourne is better
  23. Just put them on ignore, you won't see what they've posted then, they'll soon realise they are wasting their time, you shouldn't have to leave because of other peoples insecurity.
  24. The change in Air Passenger Duty is good.
