    Shipping Alcohol

As part of my leaving gift from work I was given a 700ml bottle of Absolut Vodka. The packers arrive in two days and I'm just wondering if this can go in the container? It is unopened and there is no way I can get the bottle drunk before I fly a week on Monday. I already have an opened bottle of vodka that is unlikely to be drunk in that time. All I can find out on the interent is that there will be duty to pay on any alcohol within my "unaccompanied personal belongings", but no indication of the cost or likelihood that customs will let it through. I know it is not an item of any importance, but seems a waste to not take it with me. I could put it in my baggage, but this will add weight that I don't have to spare. Any thoughts/suggestions? Cheers

H, it was suggested I add myself to this thread following a post about the latest developments in our application so here is the info :-) Although I think we are actually category 3 as Software Engineer was still on SOL after 1/7/2011 so maybe I should be posting elsewhere? 6. When we put in our visa application at the end of May we resigned ourselves to the fact that it coud take 18 months to 2 years to see any progress. So we got a bit of a scare last Tuesday when we got an e-mail asking for our medicals and police checks in the next 28 days. Lots of OMG and SH**, this is all getting a bit real and scary and a lot sooner that we had anticipated or planned for. So Police check applications have been sent off and we had our medicals last night - very impressed with the process and service at Spire Hospital in Manchester who only started doing these medicals in October. So now we are waiting again, but with the realisation that if there are no problems we could be taking a trip to Oz by the end of next year to validate our visas - so now for some frantic saving to pay for the flights and accommodation so we can at least make it feel like a holiday/chance to see places when we get there. 7. OH has received confirmation of skills assessment and English test and everything is good. In the process of gathering all our other documents, evidence of relationship etc and started filling in the online application. Hoping to send application off in next few weeks and then its fingers crossed and a bit (or more) of waiting. We keep thinking of a lot of big decisions that we need to make - Sydney or Melbourne and which areas, sell or rent out our house in the UK, take or leave the cat... Hope others are also making progress and can maybe inspire us with the decisions we have to make. :jiggy: Aileen
  8. Put simply, I am confused. I know a lot of the documentation we submit has to be certified in relation to the main applicant and their skills assessment. However does any of the documentation that we submit in respect of our relationship need to be certified, for example the statements of friends & family, copies of mortgage statements & bank accounts? We are already married so do not need to provide evidence of a de facto relationship, but we want to ensure we supply the correct documentation with the application so no delays occur. Thanks for any help you can provide Aileen

    Hi, new forum member

Cheers Mandi OH is just getting all the bits together for skills assessment, he's a software engineer so not sure if any practical involved there. We're hoping that this part of the process will be straight forward enough as he has full details from his employers and full details of his degree. Just hope what he has got and his experience is enough to be considered equivalent to an Australian position. Aileen

    Hi, new forum member

Thanks, We are thinking of Sydney or Melbourne, mainly because these would probably be the best areas for OH to find work. Aware that Sydney is quite expensive and having spent a few months in Melbourne in my backpacking days, Melbourne would be my preference.

    Hi, new forum member

Hi, So my husband and I have made the decision to apply for an Australian visa. As my husband's job is on the skilled occupation list, we are applying for a 175 visa with me as a secondary applicant. We have only just started the process, gathering info for his skills assessment and starting to gather the info to support the genuiness of our relationship. I'm sure as we get deeper into the process we will start to have a number of questions which hopefully we will be able to get answers to on here. Here's to as pain free an application as possible  Aileen
