    Applying for a 186

I'm starting my application for my 186 visa soon and iv been leaning more towards getting a migration agent on board to help me. I live and work in Sydney, does anyone know any good migration agents that will be able to help me? Thanks Tara
  2. Me and my partner and moving to oz in almost 5 weeks time and we have been looking for a place to rent in Sydney. There are lots of places within our price range and location however as we aren't actually in oz yet it makes things more difficult. Has anyone been in the same situation and is there a way to get around this so we could possibly sort a place out before we arrive? We aren't sure if there is a way for people coming from abroad to do this. Are we missing something here or will we actually have to wait untill we get there? Otherwise we are going to have to stay in a hotel for a couple of weeks on arrival which may prove to be very expensive. Will appreciate any help or advice we can get!
  3. no they certainly don't! I had to get a bankers draft which costs £20 a time to do and get it made out in Aussie dollars. I'm going to send my officer an email around a week before the due date and let them know I'm still waiting.
  4. ok i will try that and see what happens. Again thanks for your help!
  5. oh i see thank you. I was worried they were going to make me apply for the visa all over again. Shall i email the officer thats dealing with my case to notify him iv actually sent the application off do you think?
  6. I'm currently in the middle of my 461 visa and immigration have requested i get police checks done for both uk and australia as i lived in oz for 2 years before. Has anyone had to do the same? I hear a lot about people from this country having to get uk ones done but not aussie. Immigration have only given me 28 days to get both checks done and sent back to them at the oz embassy in london. Unfortunately i have to air mail my application to canberra and am a bit worried i wont have enough time to get all this sorted in time. What if my aussie checks take a long time and i cant get the certificates back to london within the 28 day time limit? Has anyone else been in this situation? Thanks for any help/advice. xx

Yes thats quite a different involvement for you then. I'm only just 24 and dont own a house or anything particularly valuable like that so its just a case of up and leave for me.

    461- NZ Citizen family

Hey, It's great to hear from someone else whos applying for the same visa. Just like you i havnt been able to find anything much on this visa either. Basically just been going on what immi.gov.au tells you and leaving the rest to my immagination lol! Its funny how it took us 2 months to get all our evidence together and they only looked at it for a day lol we will be recieving it back tomorrow after only having sent it on tues this week! I'm hoping what you said turns out to be true in regards to not having any probs with this visa. The main thing for us was proving our genuine relationship which they are obviously satisfied with as they have now asked for police checks. When do you actually plan to leave for oz and what do you think you will do when the visa expires? Do you want to get permanent residency? Tara x

    461- NZ Citizen family

Hey there, Me and my partner both met eachother in Sydney over 2 yrs ago and have just applied for the 461, shes a kiwi and im british and we are a same sex couple. Its taken us 2 months to get our file up together in order to prove that we are e genuine couple. However good news though, immigration only had our file for one day and are satisfied we have provided enough evidence. They have now requested that i get both aystralian and uk police checks done as i lived in oz for 2 yrs before. Has anyone else applied for this visa? I know the maximum number of yrs they grant you is 5 but on what basis do they make this decision? I'm now confident we wont struggle to get the visa but what i am wondering is how many yrs i will get? How many yrs did you get if you applied? Im almost now a fully qualified (nvq level 3) vehicle painter and im hoping to get the 5 yrs so i can work and develop these skills in oz before applying for permanent residency later down the line. Anyone got any experiences or advice with this? Thank you Tara x

    Police checks??!!

Iv just recieved an email from immigration asking me to get both UK and Australian police checks done, i am currently living in the Uk so getting this check done will be easy however the Australian one is very strict on payment and states that i must pay in australian dollers only and in the form of a check. How is it possible for me to do this or have i missed something? Would appreciate help. Tara

    Personal Statements - DeFacto Visa

Hi, Im not sure where you heard this from, me and my partner and applying for a new zealand citizen family visa (subclass 461) and requires us to provide evidence in which to show we are a genuine couple as she is a kiwi and im english but we both wish to reside in australia. Her family and friends that live in nz and oz are required to get their statutory declarations signed and so are my family and friends in the uk. I would most certainly expect the visa you're applying for would require you to get your stuff signed too as your visa is for permanent residency and ours is actually only temporary! between 3 and 5 yrs. Either way i hope your application is successful, i would hate you to get delayed or refused just because these documents were not signed. x

    Ielts 6,7,8????

Thanks roy, I will be applying for a skilled migrant visa in order to get permanent residency. im a qualified vehicle painter (level 3), 25-32 yrs old, will have at least 2 yrs work experience in australia out of 5 and hope to live in sydney. i think i will need to get a level 8 in the IELTS in order to bump my points up? As it stands i get 60 points for my occupation, however the new system has taken that away and makes things a bit more difficult because instead i will only get 10 points (i think) for holding a level 3 qualification!

    Ielts 6,7,8????

I have not long seen the new points system coming out in July this year for GSM and wondered what the whole english language IELTS thing is about? does this mean that because i am English and already speak it as my first language i will automatically be granted the level 8 or does this mean that no matter who you are and where you're from you have to take an english test? I'm a tad lost with this one? can anyone help? xx
