1. I'm doing it now. It is a nightmare to be honest. You would think I was going for an electricians RPL with all the electrical quizzes and tests.

I landed in Perth this week after moving from Leeds.

I was reading your last comment on a recent air con thread and wondered if I could pick your brains a bit.

I'm here on a skilled visa 175, I did my vetassess cert to get the visa, now I've realised that although it was a successful outcome, its not fully complete, to get ATRC I need to do more work on getting my Australian context training.

It seems the more questions I ask over email, I just keep getting sent a link to another website and then another.

What did you have to do to get your ATRC?

Also, how have you found work?

 3. Hi all Thanks for replying I should have cleared it up that I was flying my tools over with a courier. Getting picked up from tomorrow with parcel monkey. I decided to bite the bullet and leave my batteries out the box, and it paid off too, they sent me a list of prohibited items and batteries were classed as a dangerous item. So they're now on Gumtree.
 4. Hi everyone. I need some advice, and fast. I am sorting my tools out to take over by courier and I just wanted know if I could take 2 x lithium ion batteries with my drill. Will they be OK to fly in my toolbox or would this be classed as dangerous goods. I'm interested to know anybody else's experience. Thanks. We're Flying out on Sunday morning and its just 1 more thing that I've left to the last minute.
 5. Hi Chubb's I've not heard of parcel monkey before. How long did it take to get your tools delivered to oz? Was it a door to door service?
 6. One more point.. I have a nice new 18v combi drill. What is the score with transporting the lithium ion batteries? Can I take them on the plane? I'm currently packing my shipping boxes to be picked up next week by PSS. Wondered if its worth puttiing one in there.
 7. Thanks Rallyman i'll look into that when i'm choosing a bank. when did you make the move?
 8. Thanks Maggie I'm worried about the weight of them to be honest... There's a lot of tools to doing this job. I have 2 toolboxes full of tools, plus pipe benders, gauges, drills, expanders, flare kits..... (sorry if this doesn't mean anything to anyone)
 9. Hi Kadafi I knew about the police checks and medical when I first started the visa application, i thought that was a normal thing to check so no problems with that. I didn't expect to be sitting the IELTS though.... Being English, seemed like a waste of time(money) :nah: I think it was because when I got checked for my visa points, I was 30, and I had enough points to get by with my skills. But by the time I was applying, I Was 31, nearly 32. So I suddenly lost 5 points on the scoring system and the EILTS gave me those extra points to get me through. (I hope this is right or I was shafted) Anyway, all turned out OK, and I hope to be going to Perth or Rockingham in WA in the next couple of months. My wife has family nearby and I know a couple of guys around their already working in air con. We are lucky to have them. Hope it all works out for you. What made you choose Adelaide or Brisbane?
 10. Hi everyone. I am getting close to organising some shipping to Oz but I don't know what to do with all my tools. Has anybody in a trade had a similar problem? I am an air con engineer, and I think I will need my tools right up until we leave the UK to earn that last bit of money... But I will need them as soon as we land in Oz to get started with work. I can't wait 2 or 3 months for my tools to arrive with my shipped home goods. Is there any air con/fridge engineers or other tradies who can share their experience or offer advice? Thank you
 11. Hi Kadafi. I think the practical, as stressful as it is, is pretty basic. I don't think there is a pass mark as such, so most people get through it OK. As long as your willing to pay for it.... I think money is a big motive behind most of these assesments... But if your willing to go through it all and do what it takes your probably suited. I think mine was willesden too... Near Wembley? Things are really starting to move now for me. After I passed the practical, I had to do the IELTS, police checks and medical..... Thankfully everything was OK and Visa was granted.. One thing I wasn't prepared for is I had to enter Oz within 10 months to kick start the visa, so we took a forced holiday last year which nearly wiped out my savings. House sale is nearly done and dusted, so were looking forward now to getting to Perth or Rockingham area where we have friends and family already waiting for us. Anyway,
 12. I couldn't believe the pressure I put on myself before I sat the IELTS. Certain websites I found made me worry even more. To be honest, i am not the most articulate of people and I find myself forgetting what I've read now and again. And with my Leeds accent I thought I'd struggling with the speaking part. I passed with 8s in each section but think the stress of the situation makes it harder than it should be. Best of luck
 13. Does ARC accept qualifications and experienced gained overseas? Your overseas qualifications will need to be assessed to Australian standards before they can be accepted as part of the licence assessment process. Trades Recognition Australia is a national organisation who can assist. As well, there are many state-based registered training organisations (RTO) who can provide recognition of prior learning. Visit the Training Organisations directory on the ARC website to search for RTOs. For further information we recommend you visit their websites. We suggest you contact ARC once you arrive in Australia and we will assist you with your application. Information regarding Refrigerant Handling Licences can be view on our web sitewww.arctick.org I have already had my skills and qualifications assessed as part of the visa application procedure and have already received my skilled migrant visa. In most circumstances you are required to complete some form of Gap Training. If you have an “Offshores Technical Skills Record” and you’re working for an employer you can apply for a trainee licence. Your proof will be the Offshores Technical Skills Record and you will also need to supply certified photo along with the supervisor declaration. Can I make an application for an ARC licence before I arrive in Australia? Yes, however if you haven’t had your qualifications/experience recognised by the above organisations, you application will be assessed as incomplete, You will have 6 months from the date of the application to supply your documentation, e.g. proof of Enrolment, Supervisor’s Declaration and Passport Quality Photo. If you fail to supply the documents within the required time frame then the application is taken to have been withdrawn with loss of the application fee, and you will be required to start again as a new applicant. We suggest you contact ARC once you arrive in Australia and we will assist you with your application. Information regarding Refrigerant Handling Licences can be view on our web site www.arctick.org

 15. 8 weeks?? Betters get my finger out. I'm in the same situation, house being sold, nearly ready to make the move, but wife's and daughter's passport needs renewing, Can the old passports still be used alongside the visa for id? Or does the visa need updating with new passport numbers before we travel?
