  1. Hi, no idea what type of rental you want but here is a link to a caravan park as suggested by Oz to france. http://brisbane-northside-caravan-village.qld.big4.com.au/ This one is in a handy spot if you want to explore the sunshine coast. It is in Brisbane but only about 1 k from the start of the Bruce hwy that goes up the coast.
  2. Hi, I can relate to how you feel but if you decide to go back to be with your family, you will have to try to make it a clean start, again. It will be very hard not to resent your wife but you will have to try to just forget Aus & not be thinking about it. Always tough when two people want different things regardless of where they are from.
  3. I have also noticed a big drop off in customer service unfortunately. It used to be very very good but now it seems that good service is not that common. It actually reminds me a lot of Ireland during the celtic tiger.
  4. Same with me, I got my job in November to start the following Feb. Worked out very well.
  5. The agencies can be a pain to deal with & you may get told to contact them when you arrive. You will also not even get a response a lot of the time. Choose your arrival time well as if you get here too close to Christmas, you may find not much hiring gets done until early Feb. Get your skills clearly listed so lazy recruiters can see what you can do.
  6. Just curious harpo, how much time have you actually spent out in the remote communities you seem to know so much about? How many families do you know that would be involved in this welfare budget scheme?
  7. Where abouts are you? I don't play that regularly but there is a really good driving range on the north side that I go to & it only takes an hour for a bucket of balls. Would be happy to meet up.

    Money

I was an IT contractor in Ireland. Company director (usual setup) although I was slack and just took PAYE wages & didn't hold anything back in a company account. My last few months I was down to a 54% retention.

    Money

Far better off here in Aus than Ireland. It's true things are more expensive but my wage is much higher & I pay a lower rate of tax than I did. I was paying 46% tax there & pay 36% on a much higher wage here.
  10. Not sure about Perth but here in Brisbane the parks are full of kids around 8 & under & I see loads of kids playing out in the quiet streets. We take our 2 to the parks all the time & there are always plenty of kids there. I never heard of it being too hot to play outside until I joined this forum. Even on the hotest Brisbane days in summer, we used to play outside. Plenty of shady trees to play under or use as part of the game.
  11. I think you are making some pretty big assumptions there without actually knowing these people.
  12. So you are just standng up for yourself but you didn't assume I was talking about you? Agreed, lets end the matter. BTW, I wasn't talking about you.
  13. I knew what I said would be taken the wrong way & personally by some on here. For the record, I am not saying that people who return to the UK are the 'type' I described in my previous post. What I am actually saying is that people that are the 'type' I described in my prvious post are not likely to settle in any new country. Some people on this site are so precious & jump to the conclusion that posts are about them when clearly they are not. Some people seem to go out of their way to get offended by posts on here. Of course you have to do what is best for your family & your hapiness & what suits your own personal circumstances. Otherwise none of us would ever move anywhere.
  14. Some of your interests would be well suited to New Farm / West End / Bulimba type areas. Can be expensive though. The outdoor stuff you mentioned would suit one of the bayside suburbs like Sandgate / Redcliffe on the north side & Manly or cleveland on the south side.
