  1. I was only able to press the 'request complete' button when immi asked for further documentation. I attached the document they requested & pressed 'request complete' so they were then aware I had done what they had asked. It wasn't highlighted before then but was obviously looked at and not after 28 days. I didn't do anything after my medical.
  2. Iv got my AHPRA reg and not got a visa so definitely not a condition to have one. I will be doing the modified assessment once im in Australia. I'm going on a 457 visa.
  3. Excellent! Well done you. Can I ask, how long did it take from you presenting in ahpra office to getting that all important registration? I'm really just thinking of maybe a 2 day stopover then home again. Is this timeframe too short?
  4. Was wondering if you got clarification with presenting in person on a visitor visa. My LOE expires on 26 July and was considering presenting in person with visitor visa in Melbourne if it can be done. If it cant, it will need to expire and I will need to start process again!! Really don't want to do that
  5. Thanks Stacey don't know about convinced, bulldozed is more like it, but made him think he was in control of the decision!!! God I'm good x
  6. Thanks for your response. That is what I thought and have in the last hour managed to persuade him to pick 2 subjects/courses and have applied to college for him. He's not enamored to say the least but my plan is 5 years in and I am just about holding it together and seeing the light at the end of a very long tunnel. Impatience of the youth....impatience of the ever so slightly older is whats needed too
  7. Just wondered if anyone knows where we would stand visa wise if my son goes on a WHV before I manage to secure sponsorship. Here's my situation. I qualified as a nurse last October and am trying to work up my experience to at least a year before I apply for any nursing jobs in oz. Also I know it could take some time before I get a job. Anyway my dilemma is, my son wants to go himself on a WHV when he turns 18 in July. We would be funding it & have family in 2 different areas so he would be going between them more than doing the "working" part of the WHV. Does anyone know if he can still be added as a dependent to my visa if/when I get one?? I was really encouraging him to stay at college but he didn't get into the course he wanted so now all my careful plans are falling apart!!
  8. I quite fancied Adelaide as it is that bit further over from Melbourne but still has changing seasons. I dont do really hot! But as my sister is in Melbourne the aim is for the families to be close. Yes she is happy in Melbourne. They are in a rental in Ringwood just now but hopefully moving over Berwick way or round about shortly. As you say though it does depend on where the job comes up!!
  9. Melbourne hopefully. My sister lives there so thats the plan. Just back from holiday, looking at areas to live etc. What about yourself?
  10. That sounds good but yes I suppose every job deal will be slightly different. I just need to have a few questions ready coz I hate that bit where they say "do you have any questions" and there is absolutely nothing in your head!
  11. Its been a Cathy on 2 emails so not sure if it will be her or not. Burning questions?? - as in sponsorship, how long contracts for? Im a but worried in case I dont ask the right questions!
  12. thanks for replying so quickly. that doesn't seem so bad then. just need to set my alarm!
  13. Hi practicenurse, i see your with plexus. can you give me an insight on whats involved with the screening interview?
  14. Would an eVisitor visa cover you so you dont get into trouble? You apply online and it gets granted pretty much within hours. eVisitor is for people who want to visit Australia for: tourism, such as holidays, recreation or seeing family or friends business purposes, such as attending a conference, negotiating or exploring business opportunities.
  15. I was in Dubai airport on Sunday and asked the very same question to the checkout person. They take Australian dollar, sterling as well as their own of course!
  16. Hi there, thanks for replying. the uni emailed me back and copied me their transcript which is a very detailed breakdown of theory & practical hours so not sure what ahpra are looking for. think i will need to phone them tonight/their morning. thanks again
  17. Hi practicenurse I submitted my application to AHPRA last week when I was in Melbourne and they have come back saying the same about proof of hours. Can I ask how you sorted this out? Did your uni then send something else detailing practical hours. I e-mailed my uni as the contact person never answers the phone but have not heard anything back yet. I kept a list of all my placement dates, hrs, etc and handed that list in last Thursday together with supporting emails from the uni telling me where my placements were & dates but AHPRA have not got back to me either so not sure that will swing it. Not sure what to do next!!
  18. I personally would never make a judgement on how any profession trains/works their staff if I had no experience in said profession. I can only tell you how I was trained (2009-2012). I went to uni for 3 months. Everything is patient focused, how the patent might be feeling in the situation they are in, their pain, their loss of dignity, loss of independence, this is all taught way before we understand what is happening to their bodies. Then I was in a stroke ward where most people needed help to eat, wash, get dressed. Then back to uni for 3 months, then 3 months in a care home, again some needed help eating, most needed help with washing & dressing. This went on for my 3 years, 3 months uni, 3 months practical. So in all 18 months theory & 18 months practical/clinical hours. It was interesting going back to uni to see who didnt come back coz the practical side was "too much" or "wasnt what they thought or signed up for". If you were still there in 3rd year you didnt mind feeding, washing & dressing people or cleaning poo & puke. I am now in my first position as a staff nurse. Today I had 2 bays to myself (8 patients in total) with the help of HCA who was spread between 12 patients. My day consisted of doing the drug round, fed 2 patients, washed & dressed 4 patients, chased 4 different doctors to get an update about the patients (I work in a ward where no-one seems to be under the same doctor - its a receiving ward after the assessment ward) got a patient ready for her procedure after getting the commode for her several times as she had prep to empty her bowels, made most of the beds, discharged a patient, stripped, washed down & made the bed they left, admitted a new patient for that bed - yes I had to do paperwork with them! Then it was lunch time - fed only 1 patient this time, then did lunchtime drug round, still hadnt done obs (BP, temp etc) which shld have been done in the morning! Put my handover on tape, then did the BP's etc. At 2pm started to gather patients folders to write up for next shift as I was supposed to leave early today at 2.45, meanwhile patients all the while asking go to the loo/get the commode, find their bag, hankies, patient's relatives phoning to find out about their loved ones, whats happened, results, their plan of recovery, getting home - all relevant things to ask and I answer to the best of my ability coz I would want to know if it was my family. Needless to say 2.45 came & went. I left the ward just before 4pm. I dont think you can do this job if you cant communicate, be hands on, be empathetic to how a person feels. I dont understand how people who have never worked in this environment can make a judgement on what nurses "need" to do to make them better nurses. I am also fed up of people saying nurses just do paperwork. Paperwork is a necessity or the communication is lost between shifts and the MDT. You will get good and bad in every job or profession (whatever you want to call it) but by the time a student nurse gets to be registered they will know how to be hands on and to be honest will feel this is what they are good at while they now learn all the new responsibilities that come with being where the buck stops if things go wrong! Sorry this is a bit of an essay! Just my 2 pennies x
  19. Tazzamaraz can I ask you how this process worked. Did you have to get your own boxes and wrapping and how does this work out for clearance at the Australian side? Is the container delivered to your address and its just a case of unloading or is there more organising to do when it comes into port? Iv only read about the movers coming in and doing it for you. Thanks for any info you can give as not sure if we have the £6/7k for the movers to come in & do it for us.
  20. Could it be mad cow disease? No pun intended to previous post! Countries are quite particular about the UK with the outbreak years ago
  21. Hi everyone. Has anyone been in the same position as myself, I am a newly qualified nurse so have not got any CPD to add. A lady at the AHPRA office said a graduate can apply for registration so im hoping these parts dont need to be filled in by me. I would be very grateful if someone can forward me a copy of their CV just as a template to work from as im a bit in the dark about it all. PM me Much appreciated & thanks Carol-Ann
  22. Hi everyone, im going through the AGOS-40 form for AHPRA and have a few questions and would appreciate any help. I have read through the whole thread but just need clarification on a few points. Firstly, can someone tell me the full dialling codes i need to put in front of my home and mobile tel. nos. At question 12 at 'category of registration' is this where i put 'graduate' (graduated mid Oct this year) or should i put graduate/band 5 or just band 5?? My sister spoke with someone from AHPRA and they said to put 'graduate' at some point on this form then they wouldn't be looking for CPD. I start a new job on 31 Dec here in UK, should i mention this on form or CV? I dont really want to be asking my new employer for any ref or documentation saying i work there just when i start for obvious reasons but il be sending the reg form off mid/end Jan which means i will have been working there 2/4 weeks!! I wish i had the money to send off before i actually start so then not 'not declaring' if you know what i mean! Anyhoo, another question - question 29 asks for consent to discuss correspondence with migration agent +/or significant other? Im not using an agent and dont know what they mean by significant other so do i leave this blank?? Any help/thoughts would be great
