  1. Thanks Realitynotincluded.... Agreed, you have to love em! He has all the certification to work above ground based on his experience & qualifications, but below you need these certificates! Do you know where/how he can get these "mine" certificates? Does he have to do a course? Do an apprencticeship (what a joke!)?
  2. (Not sure where to post this question... but it's an issue preventing migration, so here goes!) A very, very experienced friend of mine (a Dr of Mining Engineering no less) wants to work in the Australian mines. Trouble is that any job he applies for he is asked whether he has "Mine Surveyor’s Certificate Grades 1 and 2" (http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/documents/F...neSurveyor.pdf). As these certificates are peculiar to Australia he does not. Already hugely qualified and having reached the requirements stipulated to qualify for the certificates over and over again, does he really have to go through the assessment process or is there a way for his previous experience and education (university degree & Phd in Mining Engineering) to be taken into account in order to obtain the certificate? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my friend wants to avoid having pack up his life in the UK, to come to Australia to obtain the certificate before he can secure a job. (He already has a visa)

  5. Hi, We are moving out of our lovely family home in the gorgeous Woodlands suburb in Perth (close to the CBD... my partner cycles/runs to work in the CBD every day). Woodlands, aka Perth's secret little Gem, is ideally placed close to excellent schools (Hale, St Marys, Churchlands, Bold Park & Woodlands Primary which has a new "One to watch" headmaster) and the beach is only a 5 minute drive away. Woodlands has a great community spirit with it's own lake to walk around with a nice cup of Latte from the local cafe (people drive to Jackadder Lake from surrounding suburbs to walk/use the excellent playground/visit cafes... it's that nice!). The house has 4 bedrooms, study/playroom, 2 large living areas, 2x bathrooms, 3x toilets (2 in the bathrooms and one extra one on it's own!), Air Con (reverse so it can blow hot or cold), Alarm System, Salt water pool (fenced and solar heated), Alfresco Area, Gardens to front and back, dishwasher, Retic (for those not in the know this is a good feature as it is a "free" bore water sprinkler system, which means you can have nice green grass even in summer and it wont cost you a thing!) and a car port. The house was freshly painted and carpeted for when we moved in 9 months ago. This is a break-lease initially for three months from the beginning of June (to see out the remaining three months of our lease), so ideal if you want to give the area a try, but the owners (who are professional & friendly, unlike many rental agents) will be keen to carry on the rental beyond the three months for the longterm if you are interested. This is a great opportunity to get into the Woodlands area as rentals are rare. Drop me an email if you require any further info.
  6. Another query on behalf of a good friend who is hoping to secure a 457 visa. The question is will his wife be allowed to set up a business after arrival in Australia? I've done some digging myself and it's clear that she will be able to work but not so clear as to whether she will be able to be a business owner. Any advice from someone i the know would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  7. Thanks ABA for the reply. From what I can gather my friend's company meets all the criteria and some. The only sticking point was last year's loss although this was as a direct result of a year of r&d to adapt systems to the Australian mining industry.
  8. Thanks it's been a great help. If anyone else has had a different experience (or the same) would be good to hear that also. Cheers
  9. Doing a geographical - I take it you were in a similar boat? How did it go for you? Cheers
  10. That is correct Rock Dr.... A little convoluted but an option all the same.
  11. Asking on behalf of a close friend who is looking into applying for a 457. He has a fantastic little business highly relevant to the mining industry but last year's accounts show a loss (previous two show a profit). Will this scupper his chances of his business getting a 457? Any advice greatly appreciated.
  12. Thanks for the reply. Got him into a playgroup today so it's a start! Shall get him signed up for more.
