  2. Just preparing my partner visa, ready for submission after my wedding in 2 n a bit weeks time .... now it says i have to provide a police check from the UK (the one i had for the prospective marriage visa has expired) ..... query i have is can i apply for a new one now or should i wait until we are married as i shall be taking my partner's last name. If i apply now, will they accept my police check in my maiden name? As my current subclass 300 visa expires in February, I am wanting to front load everything as I am limited on time so need to apply for this asap Another quick q is the medical, my UK one is still current until January so will i need another one done in Australia or will this one be accepted?

  5. well flight is now booked :jiggy:so no going back .. singapore airlines it is and i'm sure i can find something to do within the 17 hrs lol
  6. like the others have suggested, i would definately use a courier as for my subclass 300 app, i had an important item go missing somewhere between Aus and the UK (UK application) so learnt my lesson and paid the extra money to ensure it arrived .... well worth it imo
  7. Applied for Prospective Marriage Visa on the 15th December 2011, granted 31st May CO's have been saying it is an average 5 month wait for this visa, not sure about the rest x
  8. Hi all just wondering about people's experiences of flying with SA as last time i went to Aus i flew with Emirates. Never flown with these before and as I have a horrific stopover time (17 hrs) in changi airport, i'm just wanting some ideas of what i can do bar book a transit hotel room to pass the time. As well as what the flight/food etc is like and if you are able to use your mobiles whilst at altitude? All info is much appreciated
  9. if it's a PMV then you sit tight and wait. My CO only contacted me for additional information about my fiance (photographic ID), fiance's Birth Cert (Aus post or royal mail lost the first one lol) and for my medical. other than that I heard nothing until I had to contact her about processing time because I have uni exams this month. If you have followed the check list you will be fine if s/he needs anything else they will contact you x
  10. Currently live in: Lancaster Moving to: Brisbane Visa type: 300 PMV then 820/801 Family: none ~ just me on my lonesome (Fiance is an aussie and out there so joining him) Age bracket: 30 When hoping to move: land in brisbane 22nd June Visa status: GRANTED!!! :jiggy: Been to Oz before? yes for 1 month in feb 11 and loved every minute out there
  11. i'm also from the uk and mine has been submitted now for 4 n a half months, decision due in 2 weeks :swoon:and as of yet, I have not been asked in for interview .... i think they are just to answer any concerns that may have come up from your application and that they may need to question you on whatever it is that may have caused confusion or concern ..... i could be wrong but mine has been pretty much plain sailing. Just follow the check list, front load police check and wait for request for meds and you should be all good . Some one with more experience in this may be able to offer more information though
  12. I am in the UK, my fiance is Aus and he filled the form in and sent it to our celebrant. The celebrant has filled it in based on a scan of my passport and birth cert (converted into PDF) that was emailed to her. That is sufficient for her to do what she needs to do until i arrive so maybe your celebrant will be able to accept the same
  13. i have 2 canvas prints on wooden frames and i'm not sure as to whether or not i could take these with me to aus (prohibited items etc) has anyone shipped canvas prints before and if so I am to expect a charge etc if I do?
  14. Hi all, Just a quick query and possibly some feedback on Seven Seas Worldwide. I have done a bit of nosing about on the net and have come across some very mixed reviews on this company for shipping small items. I have done a rough calculation and i will be sending over approx 4 book boxes and 3 .. maybe 4 tea chests. Only items such as bed linen, uni books, cd's, photo albums and the like will be packed. There will be one piece of electrical which is a small industrial type fan (over 12 months old) and about 8 pairs of shoes. Now i know the shoes have to be scrubbed clean but what I have read makes me a tad apprehensive about using them as they quote for the cost of removals ie.£170.00 and some people have been hit with like an extra $300 customs bill once the items have arrived in Aus. Has anyone used these and if so are they any good? The small print does give the charges for items that customs may check but I'm not wanting a nasty surprise when i eventually get my stuff. Any feedback would be appreciated and suggestions welcome for good shipping companies for what I am sending over. thanks in advance
  15. Think i will just try bushells and a couple of others and if i don't, get family to send a small box of tea over so i can try it out here  failing that i much prefer the coffee in Aus so might go back to drinking that instead
  16. thanks i did try some tea while i was there last feb and i didn't like it .. my fiance has recommended Bushells so might give that a try as it does worry me my Yorkshire tea will taste completely different lol
  17. I submitted mine in January this year and had to contact DIAC to ask for the processing times and was told it's 5 months ... so i shall receive mine on or around the 3rd June ...... quite tight given i get married on the 28th of July lol
  18. Now this may seem like a ridiculous question but can you ship over things like teabags as long as they are in original packaging and unopened?? I only drink yorkshire tea and when i do eventually get to Brisvegas, i would like to make sure i have a supply if i am allowed :biglaugh: as i'm not overly keen on the aussie tea. Any help is appreciated :cute:
  19. I send parcels all the time as my fiancé is in Aus, i use DHL guaranteed 3 day delivery and everything has got to himinone piece, sent biscuits, choccy, mobile phone, books, magazines, sweeties such as randoms .. and all with no customs issues ... think my last parcel was like 7 kilos lol only issue i had was when i sent a catnip toy for his kitten and we had a nice customs leaflet in the parcel oh and price wise, for small ones i send via royal mail and it costs about £14 biggies cost me £43 both big parcels have only cost that much, 1x 4kg 1x7kg
  20. Had a quote come through from Anglo pacific to ship over some tea cartons (3) and 2 book cartons. Now as I am only sending clothes that i can't get in my suitcase, some bedding uni course books etc, is 19 cubic feet sufficent? Unfortunately this kind of working out is not my strong point  and would appreciate it is anyone can help me out  I plan on vac packing the king size quilt and single to try and conserve some space but kinda worried that i won't have enough room Thanks in advance
  21. wasn't going to use the travel adapters either .. too dodgy for my liking didn't like using them on my trip in feb but had no choice as i needed my mobile phone lol I didn't know the plugs could be swapped over for so will do that instead  will take a uk power board easier doing one first and i can replace at my leisure thanks ever so much for the help x
  22. Hey guys just a quick question with regards to UK electrical appliances such as GHD's, hairdryers, mobile phone and laptop chargers etc. Is there some form of device i can buy that can be used for a temporary period of time ie 6 months until i can replace said items once i'm settled and working in Aus? I will be bringing only these kinds of things over with me but don't really want to rely on a travel adapter for that length of time if i can help it ... i'm sure someone did mention you can buy some kind of board that plugs into an aussie plug socket but has uk plug socets on it ... or was i dreaming  ... can anyone clarify this or has the PM visa process completely fried my brain lol Thanks in advance
  23. Finally i think I am at the finishing line, having collected all the info and documents for my PMV application and tying up loose ends. There are just 2 more questions that I am hoping someone will be able to answer for me and that should be the last you hear until my visa app goes in  First off, do I have to have a certain amount of money to take over with me? Reasons being funds are limited atm due to various leaglities regarding my visa app so i will prob only be taking over about $2000 (my final wages from the UK and other bits and pieces). Does an AoS HAVE to be submitted as well or will that be asked for if they doubt my Fiancé's ability to provide for me ( not likely because i hope to start work asap but you never know ) Secondly, my application seems to be a bit haphazard witht he info so would like an 'index' be beneficial so they know what info is there ... probably panicking over nothing but i worry as i have waited so long for this lol Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated
  24. Can anyone out there please tell me if my fiance MUST hold an australian passport for a PM Visa? Just finalising the application and getting all remaining docs together and as of yet he doesn't actually have a passport (he's never had any need to). They ask in Q52 for his passport info but on the check list say he has to provide either a certified copy of passport OR birth cert. We were planning on getting his passport once we have the wedding paid for. He has his birth cert which obviously proves he is australian by birth so will that do or will we have to get that as well???:frown: Also a quick query re meds. Can i have my medical done before i submit my application, or am i best waiting til I have submitted it then have my med booked for a couple of days after??? Any info anyone can give if much appreciated
