  1. HI Gary, I am currently in the process of a 176 skilled sponsored visa as my wife's sister's both live in the Sydney area. The application was posted end of of June this year by TrueBlue Migration Service. I am aware that an application of this type can take up to 18 months to process, but we would like to move to Australia as soon as possible. I have an NVQ level 3 in marine engineering after completing a 4 year apprenticeship at a shipyard. I worked for a further 5 years at the same yard as a marine engineer mechanic installing propulsion trains, steering gear, engines, gearboxes and all things mechanical. After a couple of positions in between, one being a grit stone quarry where I serviced and maintained fixed and mobile plant mainly Cat loaders, swing shovels and dump-trucks for 3 years, I worked for another company as a senior commissioning engineer in the biomass boiler sector, where since January 2009, I have been self-employed. My work mainly focuses on repair and maintenance but over the years, have learnt quite a bit about the electrical side. This included control panel modifications, PLC fault diagnosis and re-programming, electrical fault finding and rectification. As my sisters-in-law live in the NSW area, I was wondering if you could accommodate me with work in this state to get the ball rolling a bit quicker? I would be more than happy to forward you a CV if you are interested, many thanks, Mike
  2. Many thanks Cara and Sandra, very sound advice. And cheers for the links too.....I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and go with the Australian Skill Assessment guys. I have spoken to Darren and he does seem pretty switched on about it, which is obviously good!!! Right then, where did I put my pencil?
  3. Hi all, new members here, Mike and Charlotte, Currently having a bit of difficulty trying to understand the process of a skill assessment. I have a NVQ 3 in engineering after the completion of a recognised apprenticeship but I have been told by vetassess that I do not qualify for an assessment with that particular organisation due to the lack of degree/diploma. I am a mechanical engineer by trade and have been since I was 17, 41 now! in various engineering positions from shipyards to quarries to my current position as a self-employed biomass boiler engineer. Does anyone know who I could contact to assess my skills in a bid to eventually apply for a residence/work visa (176 I think!!) I have been approached by UK based Australian Skills Assessments who can issue a AQF III on successful completion to TRA, but at a cost 2,995 AUD!! Do I really need to do this? Cheers in advance guys, Mike:wacko:
