  1. I have asked my secondary school to please re write a letter specifying exactly what they want

Yep.....looks like the IELTS for proof of English (see below). I had to, they would accept no substitute, just remembered my secondary ed letter was meaningless to them and I submitted in person all my documents at the Adelaide AHPRA office. E-mail them to be sure...........

  2. Hi, anyone able to help me here?!?

I was "delighted" to pay the University £120 for my transcript, but they're saying that they normally send it straight on the the Australian health board, I was under the impression that I'd just submit it with the rest of my documents. Anyone able to shed any light on this?? Many thanks, Chris :)

Just contact them and ask them to send it to your home address? My uni had no need to send it on? It was my course and merely a copy of my certificate and transcipts. can't shed light, other than request it be sent to you. State that you need it 'certified' first and this has to be done before it is submitted?

  3. Well I have just had an email back too saying they are not happy with who I used as a certifier and that I need to get it all photocopied and certified again!! I used a Barrister of a High Court who has done this sort of thing plenty of times, surely he is suitable?!

They also stated that I have supplied insufficient evidence of being taught and assessed in English, I sent them letters from my head teacher of my secondary school and my college stating that all subjects were taught in English and I gave them a copy of my college certificate and uni certificate to prove I passed them. I don't understand what else they want??

I think they were also saying I haven't provided enough proof of identity. I sent them a copy of passport and birth certificate and change of name deed as it says overseas applicants can provide this as a minimum but will need to provide the rest on arrival? Did anyone else just provide this?

I'm so disheartened it took me about two months to get all that paperwork together and to get it all signed (not to mention the cost!) I really don't understand where I have gone so wrong! :(

I also sent letters from secondary ed to confirm that I was taught in english. Sounds like they want IELTS test results.??

Have you done the IELTS test? they (apparently) keep changing the goalposts on this one. Check, if so find your nearest test centre by using Google. Don't be disheartened, remember they are under no obligations and we have to keep jumping through the hoops.

Our motto was if it didn't need doing....we did it anyway!!! By any means...

Also, it HAS to be a Justice of the Peace, contact local court house or search Google for Public Notary. Again, jump the hoops and follow all requests word for word.

  4. What did you think to Adelaide, Fluxsta? Vixxy, you won't even notice that Perth is so isolated. It has everything you need, and is a beautiful place. It was my favourite place we visited on the reccie.

Love it!!! Made friends there, no work there though. Sad not to be emigrating there but gotta go where the work is....

  5. Two words: FOREIGN AID......

We are loaded and it is a conspiracy.....................and too much leaves the UK and not enough spent in it. Anyone see the newspapers yesterday? Civil servants in the MOD spent near on a billion £ on credit cards, our taxes!! The public will not last much longer with these grubby shenanigans I tell thee.....

Don't bother me, got a roof over my head, food on the table, health and my kids

P.S. the USA is about, what 1.7 trillion in debt or something? Darn wars cost a bit I fear

  6.

Migration is not easy for anyone but a lot make a great success of it because they are looking for something different, those that look for the same, hand outs etc are going to be disappointed.

Its about time the NHS started to make people stand on their own feet and look after the disadvantaged rather than give middle class welfare in my view. I know I have to pay for the dentist and it makes me look after my teeth so that I keep the costs down.

We have to know who we are and what we want to be successful in the migration game.

Spot on, the NHS is tumbling....never gave me a days work and we keep hearing about how they need more nurses. Well ,theres one right here and he ain't needed?! Been private sector for me and now Ozzie nursing.

It is my head, my teeth and you are right I take responsibility!

'We have to know who we are and what we want to be successful in the migration game' Correct.......

    Cheers

  7. Hello...

Any advice/comments/suggestions on whether it is actually worth taking all my household goods would be greatly appreciated! I have had a few quotes from removal companies ranging from £3,000 to £4,000 with varied cubic foot space too!

I am wondering if it is worth selling most of my things in the UK, saving the shipping fee and then buying once I arrive in Perth... has anyone done this and what would you advise? My concern is the price of items in Perth, I am led to believe it is very, very expensive? Also, if you have any websites of stores in Perth I can look at please let me know! I have seen JBHi-Fi and there electrical goods are reasonably priced, I need to figure out prices of sofas and bedroom furniture really.

    Many thanks peeps....

    Laura

We did a piece by piece comparison spreadsheet that was very very comprehensive and looked at same or similar products in Oz online. Our 3 bed house furniture and goods to replace would of cost about $25,000 - 30,000 approx to replace new, compared with £3500 to ship. We have cleared out some stuff, but if it fits in the container then it goes. they come 10th August

    Hope that helps

  8. I'm trying to take something positive from your post but you take the wingeing pom thing to a whole new height. Come home mate the country needs you, and Oz doesn't deserve you. You might get back just in time for the next recession.

Thank you for illustrating and articulating what I was thinking, but unable to put into words without sounding rude to the poster. We land Brisbane on 10th August and wish to take part in the current non-recession economy

  9. What children learn at school is only backed up by how good parents are at home and the reinforcement that comes when rearing the little mites! This over generalisation and snobbish comparison over schools between the two countries serves no purpose.

School for me in the UK taught me facts and figures that have been of no use in my adult life. I have intelligence and now have a Post Graduate education level, but because I chose to do it on MY terms then life worked for me.

I did spend from 16-25 years old wondering why I had 'failed' as I hadn't followed the unstated, subconscious definitive path laid out for me by the schooling system. Schools are only helpful for my children's development if the teachers can use the subject matter to strengthen and home in on their individual talents. To make sweeping comments like 'the UK has better education' are pointless and judgemental.

Finances, mortgages, career expectations, emotional development, job hunting, interest rates etc etc.......all essentials that my schooling failed to provide any information on, so when I left at 16 I was left scratching my head about what life was all about and how to function in society?

Let me tell you how the Blair administration failed me.....

Remember his first speech? 'EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION' he proudly exclaimed. Well, as a mature student in that era they broke numerous promises on the university front, as well as continuing with the Tory philosophy of Grant Maintained schooling and leaving budgets up to local councils. This has divided UK schools and made the gap wider between rich and poor, not to mention the 'National Curriculum'.....red tape and nonsense.

I don't care where my children are schooled or in what country, so long as the staff show an interest in my child and their development. So, I leave now and will go and recount all the useful facts I eagerly digested in relation to the chronology of 1066 and the enthralling Battle of Hastings, and work out how best to incorporate that into todays activities as it has always proved to help me no end in my day to day life.........

  10. Working in the field of addictions I constantly see the casualties from alcoholism, so apologies if the price of wine and alchohol isn't high on my list of priorities when thinking about a budget for moving! Couple that with the fact that I don't drink myself, and i too spent time at A+E seeing the danger of over indulging

  11. We moved from Kent to Brisbane on a 4-year business sponsored visa 6 months ago and regret it right from the start. My husband here has a good job with a similar salary as he had in London, about $110,00.

In a nutshell, if we knew all this beforehand, WE WOULD NOT COME HERE

http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/mf/6302.0/ Outlines the average wage that Australians survive on. So $110,000 seems like more than enough to me!!

Sorry to sound harsh, but sounds like it isn't for you and you are comparing to UK, and it just isn't. Frankly I think you are looking in the wrong places? $400 for saucepan? $110,000!!!

We are family of 5 and around $65,000 will do us just fine......Sorry it is not working out for you, but teeth need to be seen to.

    :chatterbox:

  12. Without sabotaging this thread I am constantly amazed about the high expectations that people have!! First poster who was on $100,000 and STILL whining about how expensive things are. Jeeez, sort it out. Drop your expectations, do some research, try Aldi you may just find a bargain?! So what if bananas aren't cheap, try a different fruit!! Gosh, whingeing poms unite..... and I quote:

'if we had known it was this expensive, we never would of come'.....well it wasn't for you then.

Live and let live, and also as far as bars go....you can shove UK pubs...(well fill in the gaps). All UK pubs serve to do is fuel more TV programmes about the shambolic nature of UK drinking culture........all town centres are full of vomit, girls falling about and young lads 'trying' to look 'ard.

    RANT OVER

  13. I work in addiction and it is this that killed her. Unfortunately the demons are sometimes bigger, although cause of death is, as of yet still to be confirmed.

She joins the '27 club' along with other talents that tragically lost or took their lives at 27: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Brian Jones....

Hugs not drugs........RIP to the talented

  14. hi all, im currently trying to register with AHPRA (what a nightmare), i sent off for to the NMC for the aplication pack so that they can verify my qualifications, they sent this but also a letter saying:

'some overseas registrations authorites require a practitioner to hold effective registration with their original body, therefore, may i suggest you check with the overseas registration authority, with whom you are applying for registration, in order to ascertain whether effective registration in the UK is required. if you do require effective registration with the NMC then please contact us.

i dont suppose any of you know what effective registration is? its just im already registered with the NMC so i dont know what this means?! any help appreciated

They just mean that if you are registred as a nurse in the UK then they can help. What I did was send all documents to AHPRA,contact NMC and ask them to send confirmation of my registration, you give them the AHPRA office address in whichever Australian office you have sent documents, and voila! You have now given AHPRA proof that you are UK registered, simple as. Think NMC charge a fee, not much though. When I called them there was a specific department that they transferred me to and they sent out the form, only short and one sided. Pay fee, enter AHPRA address, takes a few days and they post direct.

Hope that helps, don't be confused by it all!

  15. Hi there.....we are flying out 15th Sept. Tried to get into Brisbane Holiday Village but couldn't get all the dates we needed for the 6 of us. We are renting a place in Kedron for first 3 weeks. Haven't heard from anyone else who has stayed there....house looks nice, so fingers crossed all will be ok. Everything seems to be coming together now. Hope all goes well for you...exciting times:biggrin:

    Sharon

Hey guys, we opted for Scarborough Holiday Village so maybe they can accomodate you for the days that Brisbane Hol Village can't? Mind you, we are only doing three days there now

    good luck!

  16. All the very best of luck with your journey, Brisbane is a fantastic place, spend a day at Southbank, it is heaven. Where are you exactly heading?

Thanks Hoff, very kind. We are going to Brisbane, in or around Bracken Ridge or surrounding, depending on finding property. Getting so exciting now!!

    Cheers
