  1. Thanks both to The Pom Queen and Grahamffc for the prompt to the Live in Victoria forum, I was not aware of that forum, so will have a look. We are from Somerset. I used to work in Taunton, but hail from Cornwall many years ago. My husband is from Weston super Mare. If you fancy a meet up in Sept - let me know!
  2. Hi, My husband and I moved to Melbourne 6 months ago. We are are in our mid 40's from the SW of England and would love to meet up with Brits who are in Melbourne. We live in the SE of Melbourne at present, but can travel to CBD etc. Look forward to hearing from you.
  3. Thanks for your replies everyone. I have been over for a quick look around, found I like a few areas such as Burwood, Glen Iris and some of Hawthorn East - but no joy with find a suitable rental just yet. Some I looked at should be condemned!!:-0
  4. Hi, I came over to Aus 18 months ago and live in Tassie. I have just been offered a job in Melbourne working in Hawthorn. Does anyone have any advice re suburbs to live within a 20 - 30 min commute. We are a family of two with a dog so need to be near open spaces/beach etc. I have looked at St Kilda, Brighton but they are too pricey. Other places I have seen pet friendly property is Blackburn, Glen Waverley, Cheltenham and Edithvale. Any advice on these areas or others people think may be suitable would be fantastic! Thanks

House for rent in 2013 - Melbourne

Hello Barry and Jess. I am moving to Melbourne in December to start a new job. Is your house still available? How much rent are you seeking? Would you consider renting to a professional couple with a well behaved dog? Thanks Becki
  6. I have recently moved to Aus and my dog (a lively springer spaniel) has just come out of quarantine in Melbourne. There are lots of questions on this site re different companies, I can highly recommend a family run business called White House Kennels in Somerset. http://www.whitehouse-kennels.co.uk The service I receieved was impeccable, with Christine the owner ringing me whilst on her hols to check things as this was my dog's departure date. I was completely reassured throughout the whole process. The price was competative (she price matched) and the service 2nd to none. If you need onward transportation, I used Dogtainers, however do not recommend them.

    moving my dog to australia

Hi, I have just moved to Australia, and my dog has just come out of quarantine in Melbourne.I used White House Kennels in Somerset to transport my dog http://www.whitehouse-kennels.co.uk Their service was superb and very competetively priced (they price matched). Christine one of the owners, spent lots of time explaining the process and advising me. My dog's departure date was when she was on holiday and she even rang me then to check things. If you need onward transportation in OZ she will arrange that. I used Dogtainers but would not recommend them.
  9. Hi, My dog leaves on Sunday 17th April for Spotswood quarantine in Melbourne. I am trying to organise a professional dog walking service. I have found one http://www.dogwalkersmelbourne.com.au. Has anyone used this service? Or does have any other recommendations of these type of services? All info gratefully received. Many thanks

Recommended agents for bring Dog over

Hi - I am in the process of moving my spaniel to Tasmania. Like you I read asked for advice on this forum re agents and duly contacted all of them. I found several to be approachable and helpful. However in the end I opted to go with White House Kennels in Somerset 01934 750352. They have not been discussed much on this forum. However when I rang them for a quote they were extremely helpful and their quote is very competitive (much cheaper than Petair). It is a family run business by Christine and Jerry King. I have since been to meet them and they are very warm and friendly. Christine seems to operate the pet export side of things and nothing is too much trouble for her. Even before I had fully decided on which agent to use she spent lengthy periods of time talking me through the process. They are organising much of the process for me even onward travel in Aus to Tasmania. To date their service has been fantastic! I cannot fault it at all. Highly recommended.
  11. Hello, We are about to make the move to Tassie in April. We are renting our property in the UK and I shall be looking for a rental property near Launceston. I have pictures of our house on my laptop which I am willing to show to a rental agent/owner. I have also asked the agent in the UK for a reference for us as I hope this will assist with obtaining a property in Tassie. Does anyone have any advice on anything specific that should be in this reference? And also is there anything else I can do to ensure I present us in the best possible light? Many thanks
  12. Hi Susie. Thank you for your previous reply. We loved the look of Evandale and Longford. In fact anything like this within 20 - 30 mins of Launceston is fab. I am just struggling to find rental accommodation that will day a dog. :-(
  13. Dear All, We are relocating to Launceston or close by within the next 2 months. We have a dog who is coming with us. There seems to be a real shortage of rental property that will accept dogs. Does anyone have anyone have any suggestions of other sources we can look at for houses to rent. We are looking for a long lease and can provide references from the UK that we are very responsible with our dog.... no muddy paws anywhere! Thanks for you help
  14. Hello. I am an occupational therapist working in mental health in the UK. I have been lucky enough to obtain a job working in the community in Launceston. We are in the process of tying up things here in the Uk in preparation for the big move. I know it is subjective, but can anyone give me a their view on any of the following: Living in or near Launceston (good/not so good areas to live). We currently live in a 200 year old property in a small village, 10 mins from a larger town and 45 mins from a city. Also does anyone have any views on working in mental health or working as an OT in Launceston or Tasmania? I have visited Tassie in 2010 for a week and loved it. We spent an afternoon in Launceston and stayed few days at Beauty Point. Thanks everyone
  15. Hi, My partner and I are planning to move to Tasmania very shortly. We have made wills some years ago here in the UK and I wondered if these are valid in Australia? Or will we have to make new ones when we are there? Many thanks
