  1. Hey Pete, I haven't got a recruiter though if you know a good one I appreciate the recommendation? I moved from the UK in March. Since my post I've managed to find a permanent position (though it still isn't exactly what I would like) after about 6 week of arriving but it is pretty slow going up here. We specifically wanted to move to Sydney but if I was just here for the work it does appear like there's more activity in NZ. It obviously covers a lot but I specifically meant transport (rail/road), utilities and anything works supporting them.
  2. Thanks for the tip Kennylane; I didn't end up going for it but it's really handy to know for future reference while I find my feet.
  3. Hi All, Just a quick brief; I am a QS with over 7 years experience mainly in infrastructure, and have just moved to Sydney (landed a week ago). I have an 2nd interview for a construction consultancy firm (in infrastructure) on Friday (today is Tuesday) and I've just had a call to query if I would consider taking a Contract/Freelance position, to which I said I would look into it and discuss this further on Friday. I was initially looking for a permanent position but since I have just moved and I am looking for work, I may take this until something comes up. Does anyone know what is the going rate per hour is if I were to take a freelance role instead of permanent? Any thoughts or advice on the matter, including the rates are appreciated.
  4. Hi, I'm a QS currently living in the UK, but I have a permanent residency visa and will be in Oz April 2013 (Sydney specifically). I have 7 years experience as a QS; 5 years experience in Infrastructure work (recent) and 2 in Refurbishment. I am going to start enquiring with a few agencies soon and I was wondering what the current climate is like for looking for work? Will I be ok with my current experience and the fact I already have a visa? I also have some excellent references which I'm hoping will help. Also are there any tips people can share or stories on how things have worked out for them and what they did initially? Thanks in advance! Kyle
  5. Hi Lebourvellec, That would be the best option if I can get a job before we go and the relocation is a bonus. Are there any specific sites that you'd recommend using or just any general Australian job sites?
  6. Hi all, I'll start with some background: I am an intermediate [contractors] Quantity Surveyor with 5 years experience in Highway Infrastructure & minor Civils, I also have 2 years in Housing refurbishment. I am currently working towards my RICS Assoc Accreditation and have worked on a range of forms of contract upto £14m. I currently have a permanent visa (due to move out March 2013) and was wondering how I would stand for getting a job and if it's advisable to apply beforehand or is there no real benefit? Thanks in advance for any help!
  7. Hi, I was wondering if someone can advise on the following: My family applied to move to Australia and was granted a perminant residency visa, I was included in this as a dependant as I was just below 18 at the time. After a few years my parents moved out to Oz, while I'm still in the UK (my visa window runs out next March). At the time when my parents where applying, I had a girlfriend (of a few months) at the time, she is now my wife (we got married a month ago!). Is it possible for me to sponcer her through a Partner visa, subclass 309 (& subclass 100 2 years after entering Australia) even though I was a dependant on my Fathers visa? Any help is very much appreciated!!
