  1. Hi scrumpy I took the test several months ago and it was a bit like being back at college doing some basic plumbing. They don't expect you to know the regulations off by heart. Technical questions were mainly simple ones consisting of health and safety. A few gas questions and some on septic tanks. If you don't do septic tanks as most British plumbers don't, then just google it as what I did and passed. Practicals consisted of some waste from basin and wc into a stack, some threaded iron and some copper. Don't panic, the instructors aren't there to fail you but to find out if your a chancer Regards Regan
  2. Hi iron chef This is a great thread your running and will be a godsend to a heap of people. Could you do me the r of some calculations if you get a spare minute. I have a 2010 Renault traffic crew van with tip tonic auto box, aircon and all electrics. I bought this vehicle new in oct 2010 and only has 11000 miles on the clock. They are selling at the moment for between 11k and 12k. I paid 17k new. Can you please input my details not your system and let me know if my efforts of taking this to Perth would be worth it. Many thanks Regan

    practical assessment

Hi mate I done the vet assess practical in plumbing back in October. What do you need to know Regan
  4. Hi progressive Take the plunge and go for the job. I lived in Perth in 2004/2005 with all the bad press but absolutely loved it. There are hundreds of suburbs with a minor few that expect trouble. I didn't see any trouble as I don't in London. There are pubs, clubs and fantastic cheap restaurants. Some people expect to go there and have a holiday lifestyle but be under no illusion that you still have to work. I have a young family now and plan to move back at the end of this year. Be brave, you'll love. Especially the outdoors lifestyle
  5. Hi Louise We're are looking at Halls head due to visa requirements. We have a 6yr old and 4yr old and halls head has primary schools within walking distance. Secret harbour is lovely but still getting established. From what I've heard, it has everything you need to get by. Regan
  6. Hi gasman Not sure how you got your visa granted without being assessed but good news for you. I was told that I need to do a migrants course in oz which takes a couple of weeks Regan
  7. I reckon you should become a nurse, you'll be able to get sponsored then. With your skills as a gas fitter you will get work straight away
  8. I've been told that with the new skil select system, they are looking for applicants around the 75 points mark and then if they don't fill there spaces, they then look to the lower band scores.
  9. Hi fab It is a mind field out there and you will be told many different stories. I am a domestic qualified plumber with a domestic gas licence. I have been in the trade since 2004. The criteria to gain points for your trade is experience after your qualification. I didn't do an apprenticeship as we know it but full time training with a plumber for 3 yrs before branching out in my own. I still work with my trainer a lot aswell a other skilled plumbers. If you don't have the apprenticeship, they ask for 5 full years training with skilled tradesmen. As for vetassess, if your a plumber, it's a walk in the park. The assessors are great and very helpful. Any advice I can give let me know
  10. Hi I'm a gas fitter/plumber going for a 176 visa. If I can help let me know

Yes it will work but not on a terrestrial system. You would need to get a freeview box or foxtel

    Vatassess

Hi ywool I didn't even consider an interview. I applied for the theoretical app with vetassess which came back positive within a couple of weeks and then booked on the first practical available. Don't take the dates on the website as gospel as I managed to get on a practical assessment within a week and also pay for it when the website said it was full and too late to pay. If you have a job offer, why don't you go for a 475 employer sponsor visa, you don't need vetassess and will have your visa within a month

    Vatassess

Hi guys I have just finished the complete process of general plumber with vetassess. The process starts with a $600 fee to evaluate your experience and qualifications and then you will get a category rating of 1,2 or 3. 1 being a fully qualified and experienced tradesman. You are then invited to do the technical interview or the practical assessment. I chose the practical as I'm not good with terminology and processes. Once you have a successful outcome, you are awarded an AQF111 and are given a points test advice allowing you to gain points for your application. I hope this helps Regan
  14. Hi Lorraine. I am a mountain biker and if you buy a proper bike travel bag you can put it in the hold with your cases. There is a fee if your total weight I over your allowance which every airline has there own costs but it will go through as sports equipment.
  15. To all the people trying for a skills visa, have you had Any queries with this new points test advice letter from vetassess. I have passed both the initial assessment for my trade and the practical with 8 years experience in my trade but I have received a letter stating that I don't meet the criteria to gain experience points for my application. I have spoke with some agents an some say to leave it out if your application. Have any of you forum friends had any involvement with this advice letter. Any opinions would be gratefully received
