hi has anyone used grace removals before ? i got them out last week for our return home to uk , they gave us a very decent quote of $3200 for about half the stuff we actually brought out with us, OSS where cheaper but grace told us because they never actually came out to our flat they would pump up the price after the quote ! SO we went with grace to now discover they are trying to burn us for $4000 - $800 more so im havin a feud with a rude woman at grace right now LOL i thought a quote should be quite near not bloody $800 more ! Does anyone know my rights on this one i feel a bit mad :arghh:

hi has anyone ever moved your pet bird to the uk from australia or vice versa? we are moving home in a years time and i dont think i could leave without him !:confused: any info and costs would appreciated ! thanks charlie

yeah thats why used crown coz theyre aussie company and dont subby out in oz ! but our brand new fridge/freezer n microwave where bashed and we never noticed till we signed the all good sheet !

hi dave it takes few weeks for new passport to be registered in system but although u have no visa on new one it will still be in the system. but i always carry old passport with me but neva had a problem

hi mate sorry i never got back to u as i only go through phases on this, yes all ok as far as work is concerned nothing permanent but then again i never actually apply for perm jobs. im doing compressed air for a company , easy clean work , no stress and great dollar ! im finding a lot of us pommy plumbers are now doing other stuff similar to plumbing like hydronic (central) heating. ect. as u know its difficult to get in to anything decent plumbingwise for us ! hows the situation in uk ? thats great your busy ! my missus is about to b offered a job in perth but im briking it about moving there as all i hear is theres no jobs ! see how we go ! tbh i still havent settled in melbourne as i still feel like i live in a bit of a rat race! (glasgow wiv palm trees)i never came here for this ! but do prefer the work setup here ! lol mate ill get u a job once i get myself 1 haha

hi tracy i did manage to get plumbing work through a few agencies after about a year and they pay quite well as your only casual and they can bump u wen they dont need u anymore!! ive done more labouring and actually dont mind it as its usually easy n laid back and funnily the pay can b the same or better than plumbing !! oz is weird lol.. tell your husband he can work as a plumber with just being registered ! (send of his city n guilds or equivelent to plumbing industry commision.. u will need to pretend ur in oz so get his plumbing card sent to a friends house and he will have it wen he arrives here!! ) a registration card and thats all u need to work on sites ect,,, he only requires a license if he wants to start his own business or sign jobs off (like house extension work or bathroom relocation ect) things have improved in past 2n half years workwise ! i gave up trying to get a full time plumbing job about a year ago but im working as a labourer and getting $42 p/h so very happy n no stress doing plumbing lol .. for yourself always loads bar/restaurant work if u have to wait, my neice is here and has 3 bar jobs an goes between em! if u need any more info give me a shout :biggrin:

vetassess is just another aussie ploy to raid your pocket ! im a plumber and had to goto london to sit this stupid test which a monkey could have passed and it meant nothing to the plumbing commission here in victoria ! they only use this exam for immigration purposes and once your here u might as well wipe ur arse with it. i got my plumbing registration by showing them my uk papers and experience ! but you really do have to convince them because as far as aussies r concerened poms are substandard workers lol.. good luck:arghh:

HELLO THERE ! me and my wife are heading back to blighty for a months visit and was wandering if any1 can advise me on wether to exchange aussie dollars to ££s or dont bother and just use money we have already in uk accounts for our spends.. !!!! people say that its good if your going from oz to uk but not so great the other way around!!! any advice here would be appreciated - thanku:xmas21:

hi mate im a plumber and when i first came here that was all the crap i was getting " how much australian experience do u have?" then i would explain ive just arrived so i have no oz experience but i will adapt to any differences, then they say fine we will call u back and then u hear nothing !its hard to get your foot in the door here on most work types even with agencies. i think the aussies r not too good at taking risks at all. like anywhere else just keep annoying them untill they give u a "chance" lol

i know how u feel mate ! were from glasgow and lived in melbourne 2 years and still dream about the lovely chinese/indian from back home ! jus no comparison here ! dunno why tho ! LOL

hi divina no worries, average bog standard wage for " sanitary plumber" here is $35p/h, if he gets on union site even betta EBA rates around $38-40 + usually around $35 per day travel ! its a weird setup sometimes as i had a job labouring on a site for 4 months and was getting $32 + travel ! but most general "trade assist / general labourer is around $25 p/h ( its just your luck). we chose melbourne because we had been here previously on holiday and the city has evrything our british cities have and more with sunshine (well most of the time) u have probably heard about 4 seasons 1 day ! not that bad ! well im from glasgow ! lol, we arrived 2 years ago this month and although we thought it was expensive then ! we dont now as u really r betta off here ! we have more money in the bank than we ever did in scotland ( my wife is a retail manager - $60,000) which is average from what i hear from other people ! we rent a 3 bedroom near city ( $500 p/w) so after this we can still save and go holidays ! . dont ask me why we have a 3 bedroom ! coz i dont have an answer as its jus me my wife and our cockatiel , has ur husband applied to the PIC( plumbing industry commision) for his registration? he will need this for any chance to get in with companies/agencies. any questions give me a yell !

all too tru ! ive been stuck in the house for which i think longest period 7 days and applied for evrything and then as u say they all call u on the same day wanting u to start tmorra ! but yeah u defo need to head for a big city i think and if u dont like one job u can get another soon after !

hi divina sorry to worry u but yeah its not great at the moment in plumbing but there is plenty work if your husband is willing to do different things ! iv been here 2 years and it took me a year to get plumbing work and that was through an agency ( hays recruitment)im still working for agencies but they do keep you going as ive done labouring,factory work anything really! and the funny thing is sometimes these no pressure jobs pay almost as good as plumbing ! not many companies are taking plumbers on right now as things are moving really slow but from what we hear things should be getting back to "normal" around jan/feb next year ! i found it really difficult to break into the plumbing circuit here because its not what u know its who u know ! as they say ! also prepare your husband for the phrase " how much austrailian experience do u have?" u say well ive just arrived - so none -but it cant be that much different ! ?? they say they will call you back but u hear nothing ! sorry for all the worst bits - but when u get used to all there crap - it is really worth coming here !
