  1. Hi all. I am looking at the skilled independent visa 189 as a way in to Australia with my partner and 1 year old. Im 26. I have looked at numerous websites plus tonnes of posts on this forum but cannot find an exact answer that would solve my problem. I am trained to UK standard to a NVQ level 3 in Mechanical Engineering. However, i have only ever worked in the lift industry since leaving school. (left July 2007) I worked for one firm who i done an accredited apprenticeship in mechanical engineering with and gained all my qualifications from. I then left them to work for another lift installation firm who are putting me through NVQ Level 3 in Lift Installation. I consider myself a lift mechanic in the UK, but i understand the Australian Immigration will not because i do not have the Lift Mechanic level 3, only the mechanical engineering. My question is; Do i have to go down the Mechanical engineering route, or do i somehow explain my position regarding my exisiting qualification but it is in the lift industry. Sorry if it sounds confusing! I cant put it into words how i'd like to. Any info appreciated. EDIT: I've also seen on websites the Australian equivalent to the UK NVQ 3 is not sufficient enough, but then seen some people say the assessors may want to see more documentation. Any info would help on that subject also. Thanks
  2. http://www.booking.com - I find this pretty good, because you can either choose to pay when you book, or pay when you arrive (with the room still been reserved, without a fee)
  3. Thanks very much. I'll try them options!
  4. I'd like to know more information on the mining trade. I've got an 5+year engineering background in the UK on lift's but minings something always interested me. Had a quick browse in the mining jobs on websites and always said 'experienced needed'. Surely must be a route into the trade.
  5. My partner went over to Australia back in November 2010, on a 1st year WHV, completed her 88 days farm work. Now we plan to go back over, me on my 1st WHV, and my partner on her second. Problem is, she cannot find her ABN code anywhere, she's kept all sorts, she was given a 10 digit code of MADEC, is this it? We did plan to plan to do it our self's and avoid travel agencies but will they be any help? Any information will be gladly helpful, Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the reply everyone! I get what most of use are saying and understand it about not been in the country, not having a visa and the hassle of it all. It's just to much hassle when they probably have other applicants with all these ticked off. a WHV could make the process alot shorter and easier on their behalf, and if all goes well they could sponsor me and then go from there. This probably has happened but very rare, and doesnt come around a lot. Thanks for information again.
  7. Hello all, age old question here, but can't find a specific answer. I've recently passed my Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship in the UK, it's 5 years in the job now, doing mods, repairs, installations and manufacturing on lifts of all kind. I've applied as of today, 22 different elevator jobs, mainly on http://www.seek.com.au in this trade. I'd say I've got a pretty decent resume, and have a good worded cover letter explaining my situation regarding where I am and how easily I can obtain a visa etc. I've stated I could do without a sponsorship straight away to save time and hassle, just the promise of a job when I get over there, and that can be as quick 5-6 weeks from them saying so. (I've got no commitments here in the UK) But I'm getting no reply. Not one reply. I know it's a bit of a headache for recruiters to start the process of this but its a tad strange for no reply. I've tried reading up on the lift industry in Australia and found no definitive way of it explaining whether it's in a boom or a steady line of jobs, does anyone of here do the same trade. Any information on any of this would be appreciated. Thanks.
  8. We are considering going to either the Leeds one this weekend, mainly for an insight on engineering jobs over in Australia. The Migration Group are holding there own on the 14th of July in Warrington, but we are unsure about which one to go to? We live in Liverpool, but I want to mainly focus on the job aspect's of Australia.

<p><p>I think I'm in the same boat as you, I have recently completed my NVQ Level 3 in Lift engineering, I have worked in London for the past 2 years on numerous sites, before that I was inhouse manufacturing the lifts.</p></p>

  10. After 4 painstaking years of making the tea, getting the buttys in and been the lad who runs the tool shop, I've finally finished!! Qualified in Mechanical Maintenance! Though I've been on lift's up and down the UK for the last 4 years! Time to get back out to Aus, this time for good!

    Thanks for the reply.

    Second year WHV.

I know she didnt do the required time. Its not like she has got off because she couldnt be bothered doing it, she had to come home due to reasons beyond her control and a perfectly reasonable excuse. We are only querying and asking around if anyone else has been in a similar position to us. My partner wanted to get the farmwork out the way, this is why she started them quickly.

Started her visa end if November, then done from January to Feb farmwork and came home then.

Thanks for the relplys. We are not looking to forge paperwork, we want to do it legally. We just dont know where to stand. I might of thought with perfectly reasonable excuses to cut short her 1st WHV, that they could look at the case individually.
