  1. Hi thank you, think we are going to look at greyhound for a few things and then removals for the rest, turns out we have more than we first thought. Thanks for the tip!
  2. Hey! My boyfriend and I are moving from Perth to Sydney in January and want to take our time to drive over. However, we don't want to take all our stuff with us in the car (wouldn't all fit with the camping gear!) and are wondering what the cheapest way would be to send it over? Thing is we don't have a huge amount so wouldnt want full removals, we don't have a great deal of furniture as we were renting a furnished home, more just stuff we have collected over the year, clothes, books, kitchenware etc. Any ideas? Thanks
  3. Hi Sophie, I just moved over here a few months ago with my partner, he is from Perth originally so no big issue for him, but it's definitely strange living here rather than being on holiday. I was lucky enough to find a job pretty quickly, so now I can relax a bit and see some of the beautiful city and surrounds! I am 31 and my partner is 28 - we don't have any children and we would both love to meet some new people. Let me know if you would like to meet for a drink some time. Sarah
  4. Thank you smiley kylie. I met with an agency today, I think it will take a while to get my head round the different job roles and titles - not just Social Work. I have made a note of the other agencies ready for when I arrive in Sydney. I'm in Perth at the mo. Cheers:wink:
  5. Hi Abbi, Where abouts will you be moving to as it may be different between each state? What I have found out so far is that you can start a police check no problem, the employer doesn't need to do this. But you do need ID. Can be done on line http://www.police.wa.gov.au/Ourservices/Policecheckscertificates/tabid/1202/Default.aspx The children's checks look like they have to be signed off by an employer, you also have to go into the post office with ID to do this. Also you don't need the stream of past addresses like you do in UK, as they only want Australian addresses. Handy! http://www.checkwwc.wa.gov.au/checkwwc In WA they don't seem to be too strict about needing the registration with AASW, but hands on experience is highly regarded. I have an appointment with Hayes recruitment next week and they seemed positive they would be able to find me work. There hasn't been any mention of needing medicals or first aid but I'm guessing if you have the option to take a first aid course it could come in handy. I'm going to try do one anyway. So far I have looked at Hayes, BBT (didn't have much!), SEEK and front line health for SW jobs, there may be more. When you are searching try under health care, seems to bring up SW as well quite often. Hope this helps! Sarah :jiggy:
  6. Hi there, I have just arrived in Australia and am a qualified Social Worker (have been working in Child protection). I am not eligible for registration with the AASW (only 2 years post qualifying experience) so am looking for other kinds of children and family related positions while I work out what to do. Does any one know a) can I apply for police clearance myself or does the employer I work for have to do this? b) Same for childrens checks (same as enhanced CRB in England I assume), In England the employer has to do this. c) I have a medical from my visa application, will I need this to work with children. d)Do I need to get a first aid certificate too e)Anyone know any good agencies/ points of contact to get me started I am planning on living in Perth iniially and thenover to Sydney Any help whatsoever greatly appereciated Thanks Sarah :v_SPIN:
