  1. Hi there. We've been here nearly 2 years and it's a lovely place to live. The school is good and everyone is really friendly. There are surprisingly a lot of Brits in Avoca (good or bad, depending how you look at things). Beach is good and there's a local surf club. I suppose it depends what you want. Terrigal is also a lovely place and I would happily move there is we needed to. Good luck Jane
  2. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/avoca-beach/chefs-cooks/commis-chef-cafe-42k-rsms-sponsorship-central-coast/1031952019 I have just seen this job on Gumtree and thought I'd share it. I don't know anything about the job etc but the area is on Central Coast, NSW. A lovely area. Happy searching ;-)
  3. The Central Coast is gorgeous. We live in Avoca which is a beach suburb. I don't know Lisarow it is more inland (but saying that only about a 20 minute drive for me). When I have driven through it, it appears more to be more acreage properties but as I said I don't know the area. If you are on Facebook, there's a great "Central Coast Expats" group. You may get some more info from there. If you moved here, you would not be sorry especially if you have young children. Sydney is an hour and half train journey away. Great on a Sunday as only costs $10 for a family of 4 ;-)
  4. Try Central Coast Expats on Facebook ;-)

    Sky+ box

Hi there. Just found our UK Sky+ box (no idea why I brought it with me along with the kitchen sink !) but wondered if anyone had plugged it in and somehow got Foxtel? Long shot, I know but thought was worth asking. Cheers Jane:biglaugh:
  7. Yes. If you are a permanent resident, you will be entitled to Family Assistance. I could find you the link to the estimator if you need it?
  8. Thanks folks. Am I right in reading that if you are State Sponsored you will no longer have the moral obligation to live/work in that state?
  9. Thanks for this Lebourvellec - sorry it was 176 when I did mine. Was it July this year it changed?
  10. Hi there Can anyone recommend an agent who specialises in 175/176 skilled visas for Secondary School Teachers? Thanks Jane:wink:
  11. Pork pies in woolies at the Deli, not bad ! Blue Mountains.
  12. John You talk a lot of sense mate, with no double glazing, thinner less insulated walls, I miss just flicking on my combi, far more cost affective, I was in Perth the other week and its a damn site warmer than Sydney !.
  13. http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/new-south-wales/146698-schools-nsw.html Here it is :-)
  14. Sorry can't help you with any of these locations but have just read a thread started by JulieBoo who has just moved to Bella Vista. Maybe she could help?
  15. Would you like to adopt me? I don't take up much room
  16. I got extra baggage allowance with Emirates and a "significant" reduction in cost of airfare as I booked through IOM. I'll try to find the link if you would find it useful?
  17. Ask her "How would she feel if she decided not to go and then 6 months later, one of her friends moved here?"
  18. My son takes medication for epilepsy and we recently saw a Dr who gave us a script with 5 repeats (6 months worth). I bought 6 months worth with us when we came and got a letter from GP stating what it was for. I ticked "Yes" on the customs form and when we went through customs, the man just asked me if they were prescription medicines. Didn't have to show letter or drugs. When you do get to buy your prescription here. It's worth bartering the cost. As for registering with Dr. Yes you can see any Dr anywhere but I registered with one here and paid for 1st visit. All subsequent ones are "free" Hope this helps
  19. Hi Lisa I'm in Avoca Beach which is not that far from Gosford. I've got 2 kiddies in primary school but happy to meet up for a coffee/chat before you go mad !!! I don't always have access to our car so you may have to come my way? Happy for you to come to mine for a coffee or meet in Avoca. Just message me. I don't work so am fairly free. Jane x
  20. I have just re-read this whilst missing home (a little) and remembered how I used to collect my kids from school in the car in UK - they would be arguing in the back of the car within 2 seconds - now they hold hands walking along the beach! I know life is what you make it but it's hard to change your circumstances sometimes in the UK.
  21. Ah Stratford's nice Perthbum but then so is Worcester (where I am from) & Moreton In Marsh (where OH is from) didn't stop us moving here though :-) Know how you feel when you just want to get here xxxxx Weather in UK is nice at the moment I hear, go and get a picnic and sit by the River by the theatre, enjoy it for the moment. You will miss it (a little) when you're here :-)
  22. Walked home from school with my kids along the beach & made "Sand Angels" :-)
  23. Thank you both. This has given me a better insight. I will do a bit of googling and contact the names I have. See where I go from there. Thanks again. Jane
