  1. Gosh how narrow minded can people be media media media turn it round we have had loads of messages of our Aussie friends saying how we were portrayed badly and how they have complained to channel 7. Of course the majority of what we said was positive would I have stayed 5 years otherwise no. I didn't come on the basis of home and away no of course not never watched it I came for adventure. Did they tell you i worked hard as a nurse and paid my taxes and contributed to the economy no of course not, Did they tell you I had just lost my dad to cancer no of course not and how my nephew has been diagnosed with a terminal illness no no no the the big reasons for returning. Did they show how we loved our time there it was just time for us to come back and all the positives no. Dont judge on media know the truth I am quite happy as the people who knew us knew why we came home. Oh yes and believe it or not we had a laugh doing it. We are far from being boring so living here is the best place for us among those who have a sense of humour. Just for the record love been home and I doubt we will ever return. Now people say what you would like. Sarah
  2. Excuse me I did the filming I am far from dopey but a highly qualified individual who DID NOT have indecisions where to live. I got asked to do an interview about my time in oz and why I was returning which ended up turning into a negative critic of Oz for the rating. For me it paid for my dog to return home over 3200 dollars worth it in my book. I am not the type of person who bothered what others think but when I see quotes like yours opinion making on people you don't know says it all. Enjoy the viewing of the dumb people
  3. The Geordie's are the friendliest people ever and they have brill accents could listen to them all day. I am from the north west of England the only non Geordie person out of my family but love going up to see my relatives in the North East they are such great bunch of people. I only did 4 and half years in Oz enjoyed every moment but they is no place like home. Enjoy it and good luck
  4. Oh they would access her level for A levels forgot to say.
  5. Hi yes we returned to Lancaster a village just outside originally thought we would go anywhere but then if it was friends and family we missed why go somewhere else. Always liked where I was from and Australia was a change and an adventure. My daughter was 12 when we moved over. She was doing well until we came back from England after my dads death and she got into the wrong crowd and ended up leaving school in year 11. I later found out the death of my father affected her a lot hence the behaviour after we got back to Australia. My dad looked after her alot when she was young when I was a single parent and worked shifts. I had said to her I would stay until she completed school then she could get her qualifications hence not to be. It's a very hard age to move them as she did not want to come back had her friends main network at that age. If she had been doing well then maybe things would of had to of been different. Now she is doing an entry into further education and loves it, has applied for a full time course in September doing maths and English GCSE along side. She has now a part time job and no longer says she is going back to live there next year but she would like to go for a holiday (just hope she comes back!) We got our citizenship after 4 years so she does have the option. I do feel I have messed up her education a bit from all the moving but she has also had the experience a lot of kids don't and would like. Also she is only 17 and has got a long time ahead of her to figure out what she would like. Teenagers it's here and now that I have learned. A lot easier when children are not involved. Son who is 7, easy loves been home with his grandparents and rest of family.
  6. Hi just thought I would write this thread as an update on our return after 4 and a half years living in Australia. First 3 years loved living in oz and saw it as forever then after losing my dad and coming back for 4 months at the end of 2010 during his last few weeks changed the way I felt. Feb 2011 returned to oz with the view of getting home started to settle again but could not get that feeling of not belonging away. Had the perfect lifestyle for an outsider looking on good jobs nice home friends etc but felt what was the point of it without my family and our good friends in England. 99% of people said to us you will be back. Anyway booked our flights in feb to return in march 2012 we had a break in Dubai on way back. Fast forward the last 2 and half months and absolutely feel so happy to be home both got jobs, nice home, daughter back in education, son loving been around family. Social life's great people pop in to see us we can pop to people's houses all local to each other. Mostly I belong here and feel proud to be British and grateful that I have been given the opportunity to experience living in Australia. It was harder to return than go to Australia and had many doubts about if we were doing the right thing but it was so right for us. Had the best experience no regrets in fact it has opened us up to change and new experiences instead of plodding on. I couldn't of stayed much longer or I think my daughter would of stayed in oz she is 18 next year and wasn't getting anywhere fast there had left school with no qualifications and was hanging around with people with no get up and go I could see her going that way also which was hard. I always believe go with that gut instinct it tends to be right whether for those deciding to go or return. I don't believe I will return don't think I could ever leave my family and friends again. We were fortunate to have the option also to come home.
  7. Blueberries a pound in Asda! I used to buy the frozen when living there much nicer to buy fresh now. Although its swings and roundabouts. Petrol is so expensive here but I no longer have to travel the distances I did there. Happy to home regardless of costs.
  8. We have been back for 10 days after nearly 5 years in Brisbane and I have just read this couldn't of said it better myself. Driving up the motorway today I said to my husband I have got my sense of belonging back coming home he totally agreed. I always liked Australia but could never shift that feeling of unsettledness in the last couple of years now its just gone. Its fantastic to be back with that similar sense of humour, friends, popping into the parents, sisters. Not regrets about living in Australia all part of life experience and it has made me return with new eyes for my country. I absolutely love been home after also all that doubt
  9. So pleased for you you sound so happy hope I am the same when I land tomorrow can't wait xx
  10. After two years of debating about returning we are on our way home currently in Dubai having a few days break and more excited than ever to be getting home. Had a great experience of Australia and it served us well we also became citizens. Got to say my husband was offered a job so that made our final decision to return and I have an interview on Tuesday. Did I feel sad leaving Australia no couldn't wait to board the plane. The next adventure in our lives is about to commence and I love that fact. Hopefully this will be where we settle if not then then plans may change again who knows not me.
  11. Qantas sent us all the paperwork not too taxing to work out and they priced it all up for me you need to know the dimensions of the carrier your dog will be in. I will be on with sorting it all out after I finish work this week when I have more time Will let you know how it all goes. Seems to be need to get your carrier for the dog pet containers sell them and the pre flight vet check. Hope it's as easy as sounds....
  12. We are taking our dog back it's $3300 with a dog agency I rang Qantas and spoke with a really helpful guy basically we are doing ourselves for $1700. Our friend who works with dogs is putting him on in Brisbane and we will collect him at the other end. Have to have a vet check by an authorized vet 24 hours before flying. Believe me if I could I would get the pet company to do it alot easier but on top of 4 flights, shipping as little as we can, it's still costing $10,000 to get back not including the dog. Got our citizenship last Wed, I never say never...Had a great time here...
  13. I let my registration lapse and during my extended visit back there at the end of 2010 I re-applied for my licience which ended up taking 4 long months due to the post going backwards and forward to Australia. As for jobs we leave in 20 days I have applied for 2 jobs told them I was back in March and they gave me an interview date for 20th March NHS job. I am going back to Lancashire so looking there and in Manchester. Alot less pay than what you get used to here!!
