  1. Go for it, why not! If you get the job you can cross that bridge at that point. If you get it and decide now is not the right time they may even consider you again for another role in the future. Having that business contact could be invaluable to you. Best of luck.
  2. I am so pleased for you. I used to think how will I manage living in Oz long term!!! Needless to say I don't any more. We weren't there as long as you but totally understand your sentiments. I'm glad everything is falling into place for you.
  3. Wish you a very safe journey home. You'll be back and settled just nicely for Christmas. Enjoy!!!
  4. MBTTUK is a great help and source of information for those that return to the UK and to those on the move over. I'm sure that people do not return solely because of a 'deep fried pie'!!! Your reaction to us that move back is quite derogatory. People move back for much more complex reasons and the decision to return is usually a very hard one at that.
  5. Hi Dawny I have followed most of your posts and am glad a year on you are all settled and enjoying the summer. Brilliant sunshine today where we live so kids playing out in it I have been requested their favourite tea so I'm cooking too. My daughter had a big operation on her spine early last year and she is doing great now. We are awaiting a referral too as we want to be under the care of her previous surgeon. Hope you hear something soon. Emma

    Oz TV's in UK

We went out and bought a HDMI cable because there are no scart connections on Oz TV's to set up to our BT vision and then everything was ok.
  7. I have also followed your story and it is nice to hear you are now home and happy. The very best with settling back in and enjoy the first few weeks its a lovely feeling.
  8. We moved back recently and I gained employment with the first job that I thought I would be suited to (Medical Secretary). I love the job and am earning more and have a good pension with them too. Husband has only just returned and he to has found a job and earning more than he was in Brisbane and doesn't have the long trek to work like he did in Oz (Management Accountant). So for us things on the job front have turned out really well. Must say it is a mighty relief though. We live in South Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire borders and where we are there seems to be a fair amount of jobs about. I'm sure though this depends on what area of work you are in though. The very best for you move. We are having a decent run on the weather at the moment.
  9. We returned and our daughter went into Year 10 at her old school at the beginning of February so hadn't missed too much but enough to have to play catch up and the teachers have been very happy to help her through it. It did require after school studies for an hour here and there but she is all caught up now. I would suggest that to go into year 11 would disadvantage her and she would have missed too much. I would have thought that going into Year 10 as soon as possible is the best option. I must admit I felt upset that I had done this to her but she has taken it in her stride and sitting her first mocks today and some GCSE modules this week and seems quite confident. You haven't failed her because you are supporting what she needs and all will fall into place. Speaking to the school you are hoping to return to will give you lots of advice on the best options for you. If she could come home a bit earlier than you and get her back in the swing of it that would be ideal. I know though as a mother that would be so hard but she would be coming back to family and you know she is safe. I hope all goes well for you.
  10. We went direct with Singapore Airlines we found in February the prices jumped considerably so we left in January. Me and my two girls (two adults one child) flew home on a one way for $1800 it was a supersaver so we couldn't change the dates at any point. My husband flew home in April and just for himself it was $1150 with Malaysian Airlines through the Flight Centre. Good luck with your move back.

    DIY Shipping

We still had some stuff in boxes and as long as the shippers knew what was in them they didn't check for the return. Some will say this isn't allowed but all the quotes we got were happy on that basis. If it all fits into a 20ft container and that's what you've paid for you might as well ship the whole lot back it's surprising what you might wish you had kept. Our shippers did it slightly reduced because my husband packed up the kitchenware. In your case is sounds like the whole lot is all ready to go so hopefully you'll get some competitive quotes. I think Chris955 is doing his himself and saving a fair bit of money this way. Good luck.
  12. The bees are monster size aren't they. I've had to duck a few times from them passing over head and they sound like they've got a roaring engine too. The weather is still beautiful here. Lovely!!!!
  13. I don't think we were comparing the UK to Australia. We are just appreciating how lovely it is at the moment. We are well aware how the british weather can be changeable!!! Nothing to convince for me.

    Confused!

http://www.workgateways.com/working-uk-banking.html You could try looking at this web page I thought it looked really helpful. What part of the UK would you be looking at returning to?
  15. Absolutely gorgeous here in Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire borders. Unpacking our belongings so having to take lots of breaks sitting in the garden with a nice cold drink. It would be nice if it stayed like this for a couple of weeks as the kids have just started their easter break.
