  1. That's what I was told, although I was starting to question if I'd remembered correctly! I would like to have it sorted before I get back as we might not have access to internet quickly, we need to hit ground running when we get back so proof of address will essential. I followed the link for doing it online and you can select living in Australia and have to give no further address details and have to give no further proof. My main issue is that you're meant to be in UK to apply, so I'm think use a vpn to hide location and do it as we leave. We have 2 weeks in Portugal on way back so it should be there when we arrive after that, any issues I will play dumb Thanks everyone
  2. I want to change the address to the house we will be living in when we move back, so don't need it posted to me here. The address is our house now and will be empty at the time I get it sent so it can be there waiting. The question isn't about the address I'm changing it to but where do I say I've been living for the last 3 years. I don't know if it matters if I put Australia or if I have to say the address last registered to my licence. Because the online information assumes you have been living in UK in that time
  3. We are finally returned to UK in April 2016 and I'm compiling my to do list We have UK drivers licences with 2 years left on them. We didn't advise the DVLA of our change in address as I was told I didn't need to. I want to change the address to the house we will be living in before we get back. So that it will waiting for us when we get back. I'm thinking for proof of address/ID purposes. I can change it online, the information on the DVLA website says that you have to give your address for the last 3 years and have to live in the UK to do it I know I won't live in the UK at that time but will do a few weeks later. So for my address in the last 3 years do I put my Australian address or the last UK address my licence was registered at? Anyone done this whilst still in Australia or even when first back? Thanks
  4. would you be hit with taxes on a car you shipped from the UK in the first place, I suspect the age of my car means leaving it is sensible, but being an import could reduce the price I can sell for, plus it was my dads car so sentimental and a car I could never afford
  5. I applied 23rd November, test/interview was 2 weeks later, immediately we had a 2 week holiday booked, 2 weeks back and then another 2 weeks away, application was approved 15th December for, 5th Jan for the hubby and test date is 13th April. That's in perth, we can still travel in and out until then, after that we need to get the passport but as people have said it can be rush through I too was unsure, but it takes the time pressure of an expiring visa away, gives us time to see if we're happy being back and gives us options in the future
  6. I'm ACCA and it has been OK for me here, what I would suggest though is thoroughly access if there is work here for you, I came 4 years ago, my visa was fast tracked as a critical skill yet I struggled to find work with 20 years experience. The job notifications I get in my inbox are about 25% less for Perth than 4 years ago
  7. Very aware of this official stance, but I know as in met in person two people on 175 visas who got their super back, its a grey area when trying to find info but once you are back in UK, with an expired visa, no way to get a RRV and no ties to Oz, you can get it back
  8. So we don't need a visa even if he is paid via their payroll over here? We want the RRV to give us the ability to return if we don't settle back. Working for his current employer is just something that came up.
  9. disagree I have 2 friends on PR who got their uper back once their years PR had expired with no way back, no ties to here they got it back after tax However my post is not looking for advice on that
  10. Hi Does anyone having experience of carrying on working for your Australian employer after moving back to UK? Visa- we have PR intend to get RRV for 5 years before returning, after that expires would we be able to carry on working or do we need citizenship (not wanting this is linked to getting super back) Tax implications? Thanks
  11. I'm in a similar situation, hubby wants to stay and I want to leave. I've done just over 3 years in perth now and not liking it was pretty instant. He liked it here but also got what wasn't right, and that the lifestyle isn't all that it promised. About 18 months ago he said we could return home but he wanted savings so we went back secure as here right now we are in a good place financially, what he wanted meant 3 years of hardcore saving although we both agreed on still having holidays. It meant we went from doing what we wanted to staying in a lot, not helped by being dropped by most friends when we said we were going home. That was hard, more so for him as I had the motivation of wanting to go home. Then just over a year ago he got a new job that he now loves. They also are very social which he's never had a work before so its all beers after work with no notice that he'll be 3 hours or more late home. This made it extra hard as he's never been the type of hubby who did all the pints after work thing or days out playing golf, on top of a 60 hours week which means even though I go the gym a lot most days I'm waiting on him coming home as it is without the drinks. We went home for Christmas and based on the last trip back where he said we'd never return lots of people asked what changed his mind, at first it was because I love her and don't want her unhappy but very quickly with a few less subtle friends comments turned into I'm not ready to return. Mainly down to his job and the weather! So I went on holiday with 18 months left and returned with no end in sight! What I was getting too was that he too expects me to just forget about going home and get on with life here to see if I can turn it around, he wants no plan on time to just see. I don't see how I can turn it around, apart from for our marriage I don't want to. But I don't feel perth has anything more to offer, in the interests of trying I got some whats on guides and looked for last weekend and future and found nothing I want to do that would make me stay. He says replace whats missing with something new, but the replacement has to be better for that to work and again thats not here! He also wants to plan for our security and retirement which I get, he talks about buying a home and that being an investment if we do leave. But I see a lot of these need to be made when we know where we will be staying, thankfully I seem to have convinced him that any investment here will hamper us if we return to UK and that this is not a decision that can drag on years, so he's finally realized that we are talking about a decision in the next 12months which I can live with
  12. I've been told this and haven't done it yet, but I know of two people who have when there pr had expired (I believe you can cancel it), with no Ozties ie a house here claimed there super back, I have been challenged on this before as they aren't people I know well, but I have heard other people talk about this. I think its just one of those grey areas that you won't know until you try. I think the key is in proving you can't come back ie no visa
  13. Sorry liquid expat mortgages! Not expat shield! Duh!
  14. Try liquid expat shield, we have just bought out my brothers share of my parents house that we rent out. Mortgage with clydesdale. Had no issues but i did own half already, have a tennant and have good salaries here that could cover the mortgage if he left. Expat shield know we plan to return but that wasn't told to mortgage co
  15. We booked using klm which was about 3k cheaper than emirates but was booked im january, but wasn't a promotion, perth to manchester.
