    Cairns PIO meet up?

Hi Joan01 Thanks for the welcome and the reply, a meet would be lovely. Amanda and I arrived about 4 weeks ago and were steadily getting to know the area, it's beautiful. Apart from the first week and a half we've rarely seen our 19 year old son as he seems to be finding his own social group of friends, which is reassuring but we would love to meet friends ourselves so a meet would be great. We are pretty flexible as we are still to find jobs so could fit around your schedule. Any way let us know , Regards Jason

    Cairns PIO meet up?

Hi guys and girls my family and I are newbie arrivals in cairns and were wondering if anything was going on socially ? It's a bit daunting and lonely when you first arrive and could really do with a good old pep talk with folks from blighty.
  3. We've newly arrived in Cairns and are looking to find our feet and were wondering if there are any expats in the area we can socialise with, to get to know the area and community. We ave taken a rental in Redlynch and feel a little bit isolated .

    On our way

Dear all we have not posted for such a long time now but thought we should take some time out to give you the benefit of our little experience . We are currently on route to oz holidaying in Thailand and have been here for the past two weeks. The purpose of our post is really to draw attention to the stressfull period leading up to the flights and leaving loved ones behind. Our situation was that one of us was employed and one was self employed. So my wife quit her job about 3 weeks prior to leaving and my projects came to a close at 3 weeks also. We assumed that since we were taking everything with us including the car in a 40 foot container we should have plenty enough time to sort out all the things we didn't want to take and all the things we did want to take. We lived in a 3/4 bedroom home and were sure 3 weeks would be plenty. We weren't even close ! We both worked long hours everyday sorting through our stuff cleaning tools etc. and still after 3 weeks we would not have completed this task had it not been for the help of friends and family. So our first piece of advice is save yourself a huge heap of stress and have a good de-clutter 6 months prior to to move. I know that sounds early but trust us on this one ! Secondly start to arrange preparing to finalise all your utilities such as water ,gas, electric etc. a few weeks prior to departure we were lucky that we are renting our house out and the tenant moved in the day we moved out but we can only imagine how troubling it would be if you had to wait on solicitors etc if selling your property. We thought that we would have the shippers in a week prior to moving and this worked out ok in fact the least stress was when they came in because they just took over and I can really recommend the company we went with ( inbox me if you want more info ) We didn't do ourselves any favours by choosing to fully redecorate the house befor we left, but we are glad we did. However we knew that in that week we would have no furniture or pots or knives or anything that you associate with everyday living and constantly found ourselves going o cupboards and drawers to find them empty. This proved a problem as we kept a freezer full of food to last us the week but had no real way of preparing or eating any of it. The last week we also found that we were out every evening saying goodbye to friend and family so come the departure day we had a freezer full of food to give away. We really are quite organised people but found that because you are juggling so many balls you will inevitably drop a few be prepared to do that. The day we flew. What a day. So many emotions that you cannot simply choose a few words and summarise your feelings. But we got through it on autopilot I think and now are just few days away from landing and beginning a new chapter in our lives. We don't want any of this to sound daunting , but we just wanted you to know our little adventure a in the hope it may be of help to you on your journey. All the best.

Medicals refered for more than 30 days ets connect

The wait is so frustrating, I really feel for all of you still waiting. I know we now have our visa but I was so fed up of waiting, especially as my medical was referred and I don`t have any previous or existing conditions and you`re never told why it has been referred!

    IELTS lurking!!!

In my opinion I found the reading difficult and failed it twice. Although I am proficient in English as I am English it was still hard. I asked the moderator why in his opinion I kept falling short of the pass mark ( I needed 8 s and above) he proposed that I was approaching it in the wrong fashion and recommended that Ireland the questions first and then skim read the passages to extract the answers. Did that and passed with a 9.

Moving to Australia with a Criminal Record

I'm not suggesting being dishonest at all. As I said he will have to declare it on the form when submitting it for the police check. I am merely summising that it will not show up when he receives the police check back because he was under 18 at the time.

Moving to Australia with a Criminal Record

I do not believe that cautions show up on police checks if it occurred under 18 years of age. Although you will have to mention it on the form when applying for the police check.
