  1. Hi. Currently, no it doesn't. You need to have held a position for 2 years whilst on the 457 to be eligible for sponsored PR.
  2. I have referred to myself as a 'ten thousand pound' pom.
  3. Hey, I only held my full license for a couple of years and it was valid when I moved here. It was categorised on my UK driving license and automatically was added to my Aus license when I applied. I didn't have to ride on P's or have any restrictions at all. Hope that helps.
  4. Melbourne...the most liveable city in the world. Decide what you want from life then google Melbourne; if the weather isn't right for you then head somewhere else.
  5. Really? That's news to me! Or are you being sarcastic?!
  6. I can only comment on my own experiences and of those in similar professional circles. My experience shows that employers have to prove themselves worthy to sponsor 457 temporary, and 186 permanent visas, which is not an easy process. I can not comment on 457 visa processes outside of the UK, of which I am dubious of.
  7. I think jack13 was saying that most people who complain about 457's have no idea what they are talking about, and those that do come here on that visa are because there is a void in the australian workplace.
  8. I had this dilemma before moving to vic. In vic you spend ages on a restricted license, so I did the direct access in the uk then transferred to a full Aus rider license. Have a look and see what the criteria are
  9. I got here on one, and can testify that it is nowhere near as easy as everybody here says! I decided to go this route when the point system changed, and as a medical professional with 14 years experience suddenly dropped enough points to no longer be eligible for a skilled migrant 175 to get here during one of the many criteria changes; emailed the minister for immigration via an open forum to ask how i could migrate to australia. The response I recieved advised me that sponsorship via work or state was preferred. This was in 2010. Fortunately I found sponsorship, and now have pr through the 457 transition scheme. I don't know anybody on a 457 who is flipping burgers, or doing unskilled work, and believe me I know a lot of people on 457's.
  10. I have a sprinter from bunnings too....with the Briggs and Stratton engine. It's green and was quite cheap. The throttle cable on mine is a bit dodgy, and it is prone to getting debris in the fuel. Both these things would/could cause poor running and starting.
  11. It's crazy. I did mine through melbourne without an agent, in july, 186 transition, sole applicant, front loaded everything except medicals...visa approved 1st November. I have colleagues that have waited 9 months so far.
  12. Visa granted on Friday 1st November. 186 ENS 457 transition. Application submitted 16th July. Asked for medical 7th October, attended a week later. Granted 1st November. No agent. Melbourne office. Very happy!
  13. Just wondering how long it takes from documents being requested to showing as received when checking online status/processing? I had my medical for my ens186 as requested, its been completed by medibank, but not yet changed after a couple of weeks. How long do things generally take to update or is it an open ended question? Thanks guys

    New Car

Mazda 3. $20k and great cars.
  15. Thanks duffer. It took me a couple of hours at most (rereading every question a hundred times). Mine was very straightforward. The worst part is filling out form 80, but you don't need to add that or upload your documents straight away....I took a few more days. If you did your own 457 application you'll have no problems with it. Good luck
  16. 457 transition. Not using an agent. Employer nomination submitted 9th July. Application submitted 16th July with all documents. CO asked for medical 7th October. Once the medical is completed, how long should I expect before my visa is granted? Thanks guys, and good luck to everybody.
  17. Thank you, I paid my money and was directed to the attachment screen. Ive now got the joys of form 80!
  18. Hi guys, I'm just about to submit my part of the ENS186 visa (457 transition). I have finished the application but there doesn't seem to be a way to attach any documents before I actually pay and submit it. Those who have done this; does the ability to attach documents come after payment, or do I just have to wait until asked by a co? Thanks for any helpful replies.
  19. Ive just done this. Make sure you get British passport size photo's, download the form, fill it in, make an appointment and send it off from the post office (and pay), then wait 3-4 weeks....job done.
  20. Avoid the Corio area/eastern Geelong. Geelong is a great city, just stick to the western aspect.
  21. It's a case of providing documents to show they are dependent on you for their living. Are the older ones still in education or are they working and fending for themselves? 21 and 23 is tricky as they are adults and could be looked at on their own merits, unless they are still in education and dependent on you.

    2.5x salary...?

Who on earth said 60-120k? I'd seriously look for other jobs, and wouldnt get dismayed by that.

    Drugs

There does seem to be a larger drug culture in Oz than the UK. What im finding is; they are more available but also more expensive... definately factor these costs in to the move.
  24. My girlfriend is currently back in the UK for family reasons so is there until later this year. Last week she was seriously assaulted in an unprovoked attack. I have never felt so useless and sickened in my life. She lives/lived in a small town so after a week of privately investigating, we have a name of one of the attackers (police have been less than useless... cctv not working, no police within 20 miles when she dialed 999 etc etc). Assaults happen everywhere, but im damn sure im right about moving here.
